Hi Jay, for serious content, stories are just about the only attention-grabbing device that works. Agreed that many are transfixed by bright red notification count buttons, but Netflix, Pixar, Sony, JK Rowling ...still manage to draw us in and prove the worth of stories.
@@TheStoryLeader You make good points but that's entertainment. People know what they want, but are stories effective in a business setting? I will read your book and send you five questions that I will publish on my blog if you have time to answer them. Thanks.
Good business stories are usually short anecdotes (a couple of minutes), they make a relevant business point. They’re usually not recognised as stories and they’re usually entertaining- nothing wrong with that.
The idea is very, very simple, which Mike is also putting out here in different words: Break the monotony! As soon as you identify the sequence and hence predict whats going to happen next, you stop paying attention. Whether the setting is entertainment or non entertainment, the same concept follows: We all know that particular senior leader in our organization who can energize the room just by entering the room and we also know that particular leader who'd put us all to sleep within the first 5 mins of their presentation. What's the difference?: Monotony! We all have that relative who is very knowledgable but you struggle to listen to them speaking at a get together dinner. But we also have that one aunt or uncle from whom you just can't take your eyes off while they speak. The difference? Monotony! Storytelling is a skill which teaches you how to be aware of monotony, how to break it and all the while being very clear and concise in what you say. As with any other skill, it needs practice and patience, but the rewards are amazing!
We have checked it on a number of devices including a small phone and have had no trouble reading all words. I wonder if you had a low bandwidth connection? In such cases RUclips reduces the quality so that it can download alright. Can you try it when you have a strong connection and see if it is better - and let me know the outcome please AR?
Is he knows the first requirement as a sales persons.. His words always would be hear to Interest by the customer. This person's first of all don't knw how to introduce himself first. And second thing is his actions and expressions indicates that he was not confident. Its very boaring sales speech.
I just stumbled across this video...by far the BEST storytelling content i've seen in a B2B context. Thanks Mike! I just bought your book.
