If the boot is torn, water and dirt have definitely gotten in there. It really doesn't take much more time to replace them, and they are only about $30 each, so it's not a bad idea to just do it.

Hey thanks for the video. Only my hub boot needs replacing, can I change that without taking the whole axle out?

If you just want to replace the outer boot you'd need to take the axle nut off and slip it out of the hub, then use a forcing cone to get the new boot over the CV joint. The inner boots are the ones that have the most trouble on these cars, so it's really better to replace both.

Are you sure this is for a Fiat 500 Abarth? The GKN catalog says 305871 fits 2007-15 Mini Cooper.

They are the same part and part number for the Fiat 500 and certain years of Mini Cooper

The inner boot on that kits fits better than some of the ones sold specifically for the 500.
