Confusion Falls SC Mountain Waterfall Hike 4k Drone:
Located in the beautiful Matthews Creek valley just below Caesar’s Head State Park and Raven Cliff Mountain (Mountain Bridge Wilderness Area) is the beautiful hidden wonder of Confusion Falls. Would be better named “Confluence Falls” (maybe confusion falls is a misnomer of this) as it is literally the confluence of two separate mountain creeks coming together at a confluence into a beautiful double waterfall.
Just a little downstream from Moonshine Falls, but has a much steeper trail to get down to it. Come along with us as we visit my favorite waterfall that I’ve been going to my whole life. In the early to mid 80s, my dad took his adventurous 5-year-old daughter hiking at Matthews Creek, and he decided to try to follow one of the side streams to a natural confluence he could see on the topo map. Slowly and carefully bushwhacking our way down, he came upon the then unknown waterfall (with no trail) which is now known as Confusion Falls. He called it “Jamie Falls” and somewhere in an old photo album is a picture from 40 years ago of a five-year-old forest nymph swimming in that amazing swimming hole and pool. Most often accessed from Asbury Hills Methodist Camp using their trail system is a 5-6 mile round trip hike. Just call ahead and ask them permission to park.
We accessed it from a shorter 3-mile round trip trail from the private land of Riversong Grove on Geer Highway (please ask for permission or book on AirBnB).
