Haven’t played chess competitively in about 25 years, but loved this. One thing to watch for.. each takes about 45 seconds on their first 13 moves. Then Magnus spends 90 seconds on just his next two moves -14 and 15-when he considers the perpetual check; Ab doesn’t map it out like that. Magnus recognized when to “end game” plan and spent of all his time there. “World class time-management” is an understatement.
Get back to playing competitive chess, its great fun, tournamnets are hard but club chess is a lot of fun, there are guys in my club who had longer breaks than you.

magnus keeping his king in the center protected by the stacked up pawns , i saw that from AlphaZero the chess engine , this lad is learning from chess engines !
I think what makes Magnus so good is that he waits for bad moves and is most challenged when others do not fall into his traps but, force him to break their defense...
@2:01 I was thinking Magnus should us his Queen to capture the pawn on B2. Would that work also or is there something I am not noticing. I am new to chess just curious.
That is the perpetual check that Magnus is talking about, which likely leads to a draw. Black is up one pawn and can take another one for free and appears to be at an advantage, so Rook f2 seems pretty bad.
Carlsen is fun to watch. His easy going play style belies his absolutely incredible ability know exactly what his opponent will do, what he will do…a dozen moves in advance.
Sounds good, but actually there are people who excel at one and do quite badly at the other. You can rock at blitz without any ability to think deeply and you can rock at long form chess without being able to think quickly.
I've been playing Scandinavian since 2000 or so ... but never got such a good attacking game. And my setup is almost similar to what Magnus is having ... argghh.
After Rxf2 Qxf2 Qxh1 Qf1, Magnus loses a tempo and has to retreat his queen (he said earlier he didn't want to simplify the position). This allows white to play bxa6 which wins the pawn back, as trading pieces down Bxa6 Bxa6 Nxa6 Rxa6 Rxa6 Qxa6 is simply losing a knight
@@georgebrantley776 Check your stuff with an engine, that line is losing. Perpetual which Magnus talked about is , Rxf2 Kxf2 Qg2+ Ke3 is forced and Qg5 forces a perpetual check and there is nothing better
Magnus’ pawn structures are bad according to book, but he makes its weakness get stronger in endgame as his opponent lacks a counter plan on this bizarre structures.
Qe6+ is a wild take on the scandinavian since c7 pawn is undefended, most lines youd have to move your queen back to defend it so why not just go Qd6 instead
