Magnus Carlsen is a Norwegian chess player who has been dominating the game for over a decade. He became a grandmaster at the age of 13, the second youngest in history at the time, and quickly established himself as a rising star in the world of chess. In 2013, Carlsen won the World Chess Championship and has since defended his title multiple times, solidifying his position as one of the greatest players of all time.
Carlsen is known for his exceptional skill in the fast-paced bullet chess format, where he regularly defeats other top players in high-pressure matches. He has been compared to legendary chess players such as Garry Kasparov and Bobby Fischer for his strategic abilities and quick-thinking, earning him the respect and admiration of his peers. His greatest rival in the chess world is American player Hikaru Nakamura, against whom he has had many intense battles.
In addition to his impressive track record in competitive chess, Carlsen is also known for his willingness to take on challenges outside of the traditional chess world. He has played chess against artificial intelligence and has even competed in the World Blitz and Rapid Championships, where he won multiple gold medals. With his natural talent and dedication to the game, Carlsen continues to be a dominant force in the world of chess and a true legend in the sport.
The fact that he's explaining to us the whole time what's happening as he's crushing his opponent lol.
And easy to follow. He can be a good chess youtuber 🌝
He understands all positions 😂
Khabib-esque
@@betterthangoat He wins either way if he was actually flagging. that pawn's 100% promoted
@@betterthangoat He was winning. It woudn't matter if they had 2 minutes left by the time they exchange queens
Just when I think I can follow along, he pulls off 16 moves in like 5 seconds.
haha same here xD
Yeah, running the King😁
Magnus you can't catch me!!!
:)))))))))))))))))))))))))))
Yep exactly
learn how to play bullet then you might be able to
The perpetual check he caught and explained on the fly was incredible.
Literally finds a line with a forced win, calculated the whole thing, says "nah lemme do something harder" and still wins. What an absolute madman.
@@DaveyKanabus Perpetual check is a draw
Haven’t played chess competitively in about 25 years, but loved this.
One thing to watch for.. each takes about 45 seconds on their first 13 moves.
Then Magnus spends 90 seconds on just his next two moves -14 and 15-when he considers the perpetual check; Ab doesn’t map it out like that. Magnus recognized when to “end game” plan and spent of all his time there. “World class time-management” is an understatement.
Get back to playing competitive chess, its great fun, tournamnets are hard but club chess is a lot of fun, there are guys in my club who had longer breaks than you.
Opening theory followed by the critical moment where you calculate the entire game followed by simple end games

*literally goes super saiyan*
hahahahaha
He saw that perpetual check so fast like holy shit.
Holy shit... I'm so sorry to all the Hikaru lovers, but Magnus is on a whole different universe frankly... It's as if he knows his opponent's 20th move when he's making his 3rd
Hikarus my fav player and my top pick for winning the grand prix but i see no way he would beat magnus in classical. Magnus is just a diff breed
@@EMIN3MFAN96 neg copium neg. hikaru will destroy megnas easily
@@fghfdgable poor joke
another Magnus ballhugger, nice
@@100grummelkopf4 I'm so sorry sweetie, was that meant to be an insult?
This is so much fun. No wonder Magnus is fed up with World Champion matches. Who'd want to play that when you can play like this.
What do you mean
@@James.1_2-3 Blitz.. faster game
Of course this is more fun. Classical chess is like taking an hour-long calculus test. Blitz chess is like trying to do 100 basic arithmetic problems in three minutes.
@@pessimistboi ?
I think he just doesn’t want to play them cause they can go for days
Magnus when had 20 seconds left "I am a bit short on time that might be a problem in the future" Me: "I am a queen up but what's the point i have only 30 seconds left" LOL
It takes me 20 seconds to play e4!
30 seconds is generally enough for a checkmate.
@@jaideepshekhar4621 not really when you are 1200
@@fernandodebrida7542 I am 1200, and it is enough for me.
Just love watching goats in any profession do their thing its very inspiring
He articulates his ideas very clearly and concisely. Always impressive to see a genius work their craft 👏
"I like to simplify on my own terms" - MC
In Qd6 Scandanavian and London System, Magnus is almost invincible
"Theres a funny little perpetual check...but I want something more, dont I?" ...thats what makes him the best :D
What an absolute magician..
That board skin was terrific
"it should all so simple from here" So casual.... I couldn't keep up if I paused every move!!! Magnus is a legend
In fairness to us, you're wrong; he said it should be "[fairly] simple from here"---so, relatively speaking lol
Magnus- it should be pretty simple from here
My brain- meltdown imminent, stop video at once
I remember watching Abdusattorov beat Magnus over the board a couple of months ago; nice to see this win from Magnus against the soft-spoken talent. Very impressive.
learned his lesson
he wasnt soft spoken when he was glaring at anish
So Magnus lost games twice to this "soft-spoken talent" ;)
Rapid and blitz are two different categories
Magnus is still the best player in the world, clearly.
Uhhhhhh yeah
Ok but how recent is that match?
Because he won a Blitz again abdusatorov ?
@@LePingouin92 Because of his consistent and dominant performance overall
@@ytmndman He's only dominant in classic.
his endgame is so good. each move intuitive, no question what's the best move in his mind. i love it
Watched the end at 0.25 speed and was just about able to keep up.
"should be pretty simple from here"
*Plays 4 moves a second for rest of match literally anticipating his ops every single move
lmao

Magnus makes it look too easy.
Just amazing how fast he processes the game.
why do you cut out video material of a blitz game? it's not necessary PLUS distorts what really happens (how long they think about a move etc)
Magnus has a great sense of humor. Made me laugh while winning.
like watching one of the Terminator movies with only the future scenes
where does magnus carlsen stream? like where is this footage from
he streams on twitch consistently.
my brain hurts, all 1 cell of it.
“ I don’t think I can morally accept taking the perpetual”
I felt like a pro when I guessed one move 👑
How on Earth did he spot that perpetual. It's unbelievable
He has played tens of thousands of games and has been in every situation imaginable hundreds of times. Why is it so surprising?
Well it’s surprising to me because I was not even close to spotting that perpetual. And it’s an awesome variation.
This model of A.I. speaks very human like, CGI represenation is also very realistic, not to mention the chess play :D
Sometimes I can't make a single move as fast as magnus finished this whole game.
The dog: "Sorry about that"
magnus keeping his king in the center protected by the stacked up pawns , i saw that from AlphaZero the chess engine , this lad is learning from chess engines !
Or rather the chess engines are learning from him!
@@yiuqwfj i dont think you have any idea about the level of chess engines
@@oneshotaddictedlolshorts7864 Or maybe he was joking.
i think he also learned from them to move the outside pawns by 2 at the start if possible
classical idea
“I think he should go Bishop B5, followed by Queen D2…try to grovel.” Savage.
Thanks for sharing the game!!
The pressure this guy has on his chest is immense
"im a bit short of time"
opponent looses on time
I think what makes Magnus so good is that he waits for bad moves and is most challenged when others do not fall into his traps but, force him to break their defense...
my end game used to be like this then i took an arrow to the knee.
This comment is why I'm here. Magnus is the backdrop. Magnificent.
At 1 minute he already called out all of the plays and then he set up for it. Once it happened, he knew he got it.
The other guy: probably sweating buckets
Magnus: How about this position, amirite lads?
The positions he gets always looks like he isn't playing chess haha.
@2:01 I was thinking Magnus should us his Queen to capture the pawn on B2. Would that work also or is there something I am not noticing. I am new to chess just curious.
A great player is a great player in any time formats.
Sounds good, but actually there are people who excel at one and do quite badly at the other. You can rock at blitz without any ability to think deeply and you can rock at long form chess without being able to think quickly.
"#$%^%$#@%^&!, it's a funny little perpetual check." Holy smokes
It blows my mind how few times magnus decides to castle in rapid and blitz
You know you lost, when your opponent starts taking away his OWN pieces…. ON PURPOSE 😂
0.25 playback speed is strongly
suggested for humans
Nice soccer game variant
its so good to see Abdusattorov angry face after Magnus destroyed him at recent world blitz
amazing how he comes back after being down a minute on time
Carlsen is fun to watch. His easy going play style belies his absolutely incredible ability know exactly what his opponent will do, what he will do…a dozen moves in advance.
Lord magnus goes *All out*
TBH both Caruana and Magnus were robbed off of their chance for the title of Rapid World Champion. Also this theme hurts my eyes.
And then you have the other guy who goes "chess speaks for itself" 😂
Where he is playing ?? On which app 🤔🤔
Didn't realize Abdusattorov was rapid world champion. At 17, holy shit.
What site is he playing?
Should be pretty simple from now, ultra instinct activated 😮
I cannot follow. My brain is too slow. 8-)
I've been playing Scandinavian since 2000 or so ... but never got such a good attacking game. And my setup is almost similar to what Magnus is having ... argghh.
@Sam good question
@Sam year 2000. And also Scotch when playing white. My rating is hovering at +/-2000 anyway ...
Nobody's talking about the awesome football pitch board?
"It should all be very simple from here" ... game is over in 20 seconds and i have no idea what just happened
02:39 “should all be fairly simple from here”…
mangnus must spend his entire spare time studying every play possible. Insane how see’s everything in front of him
Not often we get a tutorial of the GOAT ♟
How to get / play with that cool football background?
Pretty sure Levy could take on these streamers
😂😂
Who's Levy? I only know Levi
@Dominic Amoe No, its Levi Rozman the IM with the youtube channel.
@@lightman9935 ah yes, Lee-vie
The levy was dry
the board just really throws me off haha
Abdusattorov panicked so much - played way too passive in response to Magnus
What Application did he use?
The end game was insane
"And now, he will try"
-Narrator
Magnus’ pawn structures are bad according to book, but he makes its weakness get stronger in endgame as his opponent lacks a counter plan on this bizarre structures.
When was this game held?
The game went into fast forward towards the end lol
I feel like caveman spongebob watching the end game
The world needs more Magnus yoo-tubes playing and explaining!
I couldn’t even follow along 😂
So how does the pawn move again?
"that was a nice complicated game"
Anyone else started checking out his house behind him instead of watching the chess play?
I love watching Magnus
@1:43 Rook f2 seems like a killer move.
Anyone think this may be the best move?
That is the perpetual check that Magnus is talking about, which likely leads to a draw. Black is up one pawn and can take another one for free and appears to be at an advantage, so Rook f2 seems pretty bad.
You missed king takes
3 best!?:)
dude plays like bob ross and then turns into mad van gogh at the last 30 secs
THE KID GOT SMOKED 😎
Qe6+ is a wild take on the scandinavian since c7 pawn is undefended, most lines youd have to move your queen back to defend it so why not just go Qd6 instead
Non castle match. Great!

Orange
I like to think that when he says "the scandinavian," he's referring to himself, not the opening.
1:46 Rook sack to F2, capture rook on H1, check, then rook on A1.
How they play so fast. I can't even see the move
I guess the kid was just having fun, as it seemed like he didn't take time to think about any move, or he was in rush or something.
Magnus Carlsen is the manliest name i've heard in quite some time
Knows the game inside out.
Some of these comments man, chess is analogous to cricket in its duration/varying formats and classical is akin to test cricket the most elite and mentally/physically/emotionally demanding version of the sport.
Nice game by Magnus
