Biking and walking trails, yeah that should clear the congestion right up. Public transportation could help but most people want to get where they're going in a timely manner that most public transport can't provide. I had to use public transportation once for a month when my car broke down. The normal 20 minute commute to work took an hour and fifteen minutes by public transport. That's just one way. Two hours is a lot out of a persons day and that was only going to and from work. When you factor in other things people have to do in the course of a day it eats up even more time. Building up and expanding the highways would help to ease the congestion on surface streets as people won't have to take surface streets to go from one part of town to another. Right now some people opt for the surface streets because the hwy is too congested or hard to navigate because of congestion. Honestly, there is no one simple solution to the problem but bike paths and walkways aren't it.

Issue is that increasing highways induces demand and will make congestion worse. People need mobility options, and by getting more cars off the road, especially for short trips, you can combat congestion. If you keep adding lanes with no plan and no alternatives to driving with a barely funded public transport, of course people are going to use the car and this leads to congestion. Multimodal transit is the future.

Who would’ve thought barely finding public transit would make it low quality… it doesn’t have to be that way.

1:48 Michelle darlin the vast majority of drivers in TB do not and will not use a transportation network (Bus's). Americans, Floridians and Tampans love our cars.

Most people hate driving. If biking, walking and transit options are actually safe and feasible then your highways will be less crowded. Thus making driving more enjoyable. I love driving and cars. But I hate sharing the road with people that don’t feel the same way.
