Lol so did I but in Cleveland! It was my first concert & won tix off the radio. It was supposed to be Candlebox, Sponge, and Seaweed. Seaweed ended up pulling out so they were replaced by a no name band at the time...Our Lady Peace! One of the best concerts I've ever seen 😃
Have to reply to this. I as well used to listen to this particular Sponge album back in the mid 90's over and over and over again! Never got old. Still to this day! Something about that chiming guitar and all the catchy songs as well as Vinnie's awesome voice. Loved all of it and so glad they are still around today! 😎⚡🎸🎶🔥
Sponge is unequivocally one of THEE most underrated, underappreciated bands ever. Forget 90s alt-rock. Sponge was that rare major label band that always went their own way, possibly to their detriment in terms of money. But for pure aesthetics, they will perhaps be more loved when we've no longer got them; one of the great tragedies of art--to be so ahead of one's time that the art produced & the artist who birthed it is only truly embraced long after it's of any benefit to the artist. I will rock Sponge until I breathe my last.
Mister Blank agreed, they're very underrated. Sponge & Failure are 2 of my most favorite underrated 90s bands. I actually got to see Sponge with Ned's Atomic Dustbin (another great underrated band) in July 1995. They both put on an amazing show at Numbers Nite Club in Houston, which is a dance club... Not a very big place. I saw Blur there too in 1997. I think the fact that these kind of bands did what THEY wanted is one big reason why they're not so well known.... & perhaps that's the sound we're so drawn to. My favorite band of all time is The Damned... They've been around as long as I've been alive & still hardly anyone knows about them! Bands that stay true to themselves musically & don't give into label demands will stand the test of time. Being mainstream means nothing to me... It just means that music is more controlled for the masses to consume, even if the bands start off really strong.
Absolutely and they are the MAIN band when I think of 90's alternative rock! ..Even more so then Nirvana, etc..m. They just hit home which is why I LOVE when Molly or PLOWED makes it into the movies on occasion. Last time I know of it happening was in 2015 (I think it was?) with the incredible true story/movie called CHASING MAVERICKS. Watch it! R.i.P. Jay Moriarty #LiveLikeJAY BTW: This song here is spectacular and I am truly sad I only found out about it in the last few years versus when released they somehow lost the way to reach the fan's... like they did with Perry from Janes Addiction as in stole his Passion (Google it) and made him sell out or die, hurt his family, etc... evil industry!... On that note as well... Scott Weiland and Layne Staley as well as Kurt chose the other road... What a tangled Web we weave! Love every one of them not only as musicians but as people as ivam a guru for watching interviews to try to get to know them as people to the best as humanly possible considering.. Anyway, Thank God for "90's" Music... #CleanseOurSouls
Martin Hall Hell yeah! I think it was in the top 3 of that decade and severely overlooked. I would go as far to say one of the best debut albums up to that point, and even up to today. Given what we’ve had in the past 20 plus years it still stands up.
Underrated if you are not a teen in the 90's... In which I am truly sad for this new generation of kids that have been introduced to pure garbage music.
Danny I love this song. I love this album. It makes me feel so alive. I love the whole video. I love the disco ball. I love the rug and the water underneath it. I love the water streaming down the walls. I love the fire. 🔥
Dan, I'm listening to them right now.📱 I went to file for my unemployment at Oklahoma Works in Tahlequah.🗃🇺🇸 I couldn't file.🗃 I can't file til the 15th.🗃🚜📅 My best friend, Nathan Roam went with me & my mom. His went through. They said it might take 4 weeks for him to get it though. 📅 I'm happy for him, because he's going to have to move to Edmond, Oklahoma before too long.😊 🇺🇸 After his grandmother died, they found out she left the house they're living in, to one of the other cousins.🏠 When he leaves and we start back to work in the summer.🌟 I'll be the last of the original workers at the restaurant(Soda Steve's Restaurant) I work. 🍔
They for New York City radio play for at least three songs. Rainin' not being one of them was a crime, but you can hardly say the band didn't get time in the limelight. Certainly more than 7MaryThree got.
Why can't I "Like" this song 500 times over?! This is such an amazing song on such an amazing album. Sponge was one of the great underappreciated bands of the 90s. God I miss those days.
And here I am again, two years later, thinking the same thing. At least there is a video, I guess. Original Sponge had such a magical sound. Somehow spiritual. And over to the uncut one for me.
My favorite Sponge song. It makes me think it's about running out of time, moments coming and going. Life is always changing; the good, the bad, and everything in between. Don't blink or you might miss a chance to seize the day. Reminds me of growing up in a simpler time, listening to great music such as this; not a care in the world. Now? Society is awful, the pain that life leaves heavy on your shoulders; just take me back to the 90s. The first verse always hits me in the gut. Brings me to tears sometimes. The rain in my house is about to wash me away.
Love sponges’ guitar tones. Everyone was going for such heavy distorted guitars which I like as well but it’s cool to hear clean tones with just a little grit sometimes. But the two guitars how they mix together is what I love about this band
Thanks for posting. I saw Sponge live at Soma in San Diego when they were promoting Rotting Pinata. It was one of the best concerts ever. Back then, I wore that CD out listening to it over and over and had to buy a new one. I'm a songwriter, and their lyrics are powerful, profound, poignant. This song still tears me up. Genius.
Sponge still hold a seminal point in my life as being the first band I ever saw live. It immediately transports me back to being 15 and feeling like the world had yet to reveal her secrets. Beautiful song...I played this disc endlessly.
Saw them at "Festival" downtown Grand Rapids, MI. First concert. It was a free concert with troll for trout and Domestic Problems (If i remember correctly) SO good.
My friend invited me to see this band in March 6 weeks after a brutal break-up. We saw Sponge at Sellersville Theater in PA. Great little quaint venue. They opened with Wax Ecstatic I was completely blown away by this tune.. Rotting Piñata is underrated. Vinnie Dombroski is an incredible vocalist. Rainin' is such a heartbreaker. Love this band. Glad I found them.
Was lucky enough to see these guys in my mid teens at a small venue in Rochester, NY. In fact, Everclear opened for them and nobody knew who they were at the time. Loved that I saw these bands as a young person. Wouldn't trade those experiences for anything.
I’m from Rochester, but sadly was born in 1994, so I never got to see this band in their glory days. Really wish I was born earlier so I could’ve lived through the 90s as a teen or young adult
Went to see Candlebox in ‘94 and got there early enough to catch the opener who we didn’t know until they busted into Molly. From there on out it was a freaking blast and Vinnie owned that stage! They had the crowd going more than Candlebox and it was known - so much so that at the end of Candlebox’s set, Kevin threw the mic down and they walked off stage with no encore. Went and got the Sponge CD the next day and they’ve remained one of my all time favorites since then and saw them live every time they rolled thru Chicago. Thank you guys for the memories and RIP guitar God Mike Cross.
i went to see them last night, in michigan. great performance, definetly under rated. the best performance from a band that ive seen in a while. lead guitar player is great and lead singer has a powerfull voice. proud of you you guys here in michigan!!!!!!!
I hate how such good bands can go without the credit they deserve yet Paris Hilton can drop an auto tuned piece of shit and have it reach millions all around the world instantly
Odd that i remember him with the hair like that, but i don'r recall seeing or even knowing about this video until now. Even more odd because this is 1 of my Top 3 songs by them ever.
I saw them opening for KISS on their Reunion Tour (Detroit June 96).... they were amazing live. This song brings back memories of me as an exchange student living in MICHIGAN!! ohh how I miss those days!!!!
Ive seen them in the 90s and seen them last year and they still jam it out. come out with some new stuff Vinnie. you are the most under rated band ever. so fricken talented.... JIm from the D.
I can't get this song out of my mind.....Going to be recording a cover of this.......I know it won't touch this version. Just doing it for myself.......Sponge...So Damn good.......
Wow brought back memories from when i was 18 and just had my daughter this was my child's mother and my favorite song. Unfortunately the relationship didn't last but thanks to spong i have the memorys💓👍
There's a girl. Her name was Beth Godin. She was wicked cool. It sounds trivial but she was the best of us. She died in a crash a while ago. I hope she lives on in this song.

I've never heard this song before now. Despite absolutely loving Molly and Plowed. This is right up with them. Amazing song. I almost see them as a less emo AFI before the that sound really took off. If that makes any sense at all.
RIP Mike Cross, you helped set the tone for an amazing underrated rock band
Yep. RIP. One of the Greats
100%
One of the most underrated bands in the last 30 years
I was just about to type the same thing
Loved them since 94. My son and I finally got to see them 3/23/24!!! 🔥🔥🔥
Rotting Piñata is a perfect album. Not one bad sing. This is my favorite off the album. Saw them on this tour in 95 open for Candlebox in New Haven.
Holy fuck, that must have been amazing. I live in CT but I was born in '91 😢
Candlebox was a one-hit wonder with their lame "Maybe" (Far Behind) song.
I think "new pop Sunday" best sponge record.
@@riproar11 i agree Sponge's Rotten Pinata blows CB's self titled out but i'd still go to that show in a heartbeat
Rotting Pinata is such an addicting album. I listen to it over and over and it never gets old.
me too! so good

Still remember the cover with candy corn. One of my faves for sure
I agree.
So addicted
Every time I've seen these guys play it hurts me to watch them, they should have a much bigger band than they ended up being.
+1
There are dozens of alternative bands in the 90s that should have been much bigger. It's a crying shame.

One of the best CD’s ever made! This band was ahead of their time! Love Sponge!!!
muitos conversando comigo
One of the best cd's ever made!
Not a single recorded second was wasted, it has to be played to the last moment!
Yes
So true, bro'!
Excellent album...
Martin Hall

Underrated band and underrated album.
HIGHLY
Underrated if you are not a teen in the 90's... In which I am truly sad for this new generation of kids that have been introduced to pure garbage music.

Agreed
Saw them open for STP mid 90s. Became a instant huge fan. Still am. So nostalgic.
Amazing band. Should have been HUGE!
they suck big time but this one is good

It’s crazy how much competition there was in the 90s that bands like this got overlooked :/

still makes me realize how amazing this era was.

Great album start to finish! Hit play and let it play, don't skip any songs or you'll miss something. I love albums that are an experience like that.
Back in the day I loved doing that and it was an experience. It seems no one today has the attention span to do that but they are missing out big time
This album is perfection front to back. Plowed takes me to another level and the whole thing is beyond dreamy
I filmed for these guys many times back in '96-'97. AWESOME band, great guys!
Those were beautiful years my friend.
I love Vinnie!!! He is sooo talented!
And here I am again, two years later, thinking the same thing. At least there is a video, I guess. Original Sponge had such a magical sound. Somehow spiritual. And over to the uncut one for me.
Holy hell wtf, 27 years later and I never knew Sponge made a video for Rainin!
Me neither!
one of the best albums ever
One of my favorite bands and albums from High School. Takes me right back to that time🙂. ❤
Me too man just thinking of then ❤
My favorite Sponge song. It makes me think it's about running out of time, moments coming and going. Life is always changing; the good, the bad, and everything in between. I opened for them a few weeks ago and they were fantastic. Their power, energy and sound had me, right off the bat. Go see them if you can.
Only in the early to mid 90s could you ever have something like THIS make significant money. Greatest decade to had ever existed.
Loved this CD
Still do!
Saw them at "Festival" downtown Grand Rapids, MI. First concert. It was a free concert with troll for trout and Domestic Problems (If i remember correctly) SO good.

A time unlike any other...

Love Sponge from the early 90's 'till the eternity!! Everything Sponge!!
I hate how such good bands can go without the credit they deserve yet Paris Hilton can drop an auto tuned piece of shit and have it reach millions all around the world instantly

Love the outro of this song!

This song breaks my heart is SO GOOD
Most favorite song in Rotting pinata for me.

Cuando tocan el acorde final no quiero que acabe, es un sentímiento que pocas veces se siente
It’s sad that a lot people don’t even know who they are.
Just turned 40 today. And this is where I chose to spend it. I pat myself today on the back. I never do that.
Masterpiece!
Hearing it today January 4th 2021. Goose bumps!
I still listento rottng pinata once or twice a week. love this album.
i love soma. I've been there many times and it's an awesome venue. Props to you for getting to see Sponge there
The best song that they did. This band faded quickly when I thought they would be huge.
私も未だに聴いてる 聞き飽きない 素晴らしいアルバムです
Odd that i remember him with the hair like that, but i don'r recall seeing or even knowing about this video until now. Even more odd because this is 1 of my Top 3 songs by them ever.
so true I never seen the video until now.
Vinnie & Jimmy are in the Orbitsuns. Vinnie is the nicest musician in Detroit
saw them around 96 in Calgary. Great show!
Its raining... it's raining down in my life!! I love it!! Bring it.
What a killer song. Shoulda been a smash hit.
The most gigantic powerful voice to ever come out of such a little man
😵😄💗💗💗💗
I know that Vinnie is thin but I think he's like 6' 1" tall
I saw them opening for KISS on their Reunion Tour (Detroit June 96).... they were amazing live. This song brings back memories of me as an exchange student living in MICHIGAN!! ohh how I miss those days!!!!
❤
🤎
I totally love Sponge, thanks for sharing!
I never had the opportunity of seeing this video. Thanks a lot!!!
1st two albums and New Pop Sunday are just greatness.
Love this band!
Love the sound they had on this CD.

Great stuff like the next STP dig them for sure
So cool to see this classic Sponge video.Vinnie is even more handome now
all those rings on his hand looks really good!
There's a girl. Her name was Beth Godin. She was wicked cool. It sounds trivial but she was the best of us. She died in a crash a while ago. I hope she lives on in this song.
Still a go to song.
This video doesn't even have half a million views?? Only 145 comments??? God it's sad how underrated this band is.
Sponge needs to release this cd or make a greatest hits! Please!
Beautiful song.
One of the best songs ever. Love Sponge. Vinny has his band Crud, had an album not too long ago. Wonder if they're up to anything anymore? Love Vinny's passion in music.
I was looking for this song for 22 years until I got sick from searching for it, I finally found it damn what happiness
🤎
It was 1995 I was living in a hotel. we traded some guy some weed for back stage passes at the Newport Music Hall. I smoked out with The lead singer of Sponge and the lead singer from Everclear. Rocked out with them i was in the front row at the show. They were slapping us high Fives all night. That 23 years ago. omg!
My favorite Sponge song!
Fantastic song, great album!
Just another band that i could never play loud enough!
Beautiful
I thought I had a comment in the comments. My mom just called. I told her with a text, I'm busy. I'm at work, we're catering to The 4-H Club. 🍀 I'm actually away from the other workers right now. Our boss wanted me in the restaurant part of the Resort(Fin and Feather). ⛵ 🐟 🪶 I'm doing dishes. But, it's alright. I have my phone to keep me company. 📲 Love and light from Lake Tenkiller. 💕 🕯️
Man, I love Sponge!
Sponge rules!
I've never heard this song before now. Despite absolutely loving Molly and Plowed. This is right up with them. Amazing song. I almost see them as a less emo AFI before the that sound really took off. If that makes any sense at all.
You rock guys get back together
This song hits. Oct 2024
