  • This video shows Instructor Scott Smith performing the Sui Nim Tao form during his Canada Seminar in 2014.
The form is done slow as it has many important purposes that require this. Some of the main ones are:
Learning to keep your stance correct (including connection of the body through correct alignment of the spine, and relaxation).
Structure of the movements. This means learning to do each movement as relaxed as possible while thinking of things such as joint rotation and expansion. The correct shapes are used, but must not be forced into positions that result in tension.
Focusing forward with the mind (from the entire body).
There are many more purposes and quite often this form is described as a form of standing meditation. By practicing slow you can become aware of all the different movements that are used to generate large amounts of power in such small and direct movements. These then become a natural way of moving very powerfully that can be used in any situation (e.g. self defence). There are also many health benefits that become quite apparent even early on in training.
There is a lot more to this form then appears on the surface, and that is why many practitioners can still be addicted to it even after decades of training.
