Being a GoldStar owner yourself Richard i wondered what you thought of BSA discounts. My Midnight Black version was £6800 last March now its £5500. The green one was £6500 now its £4995 the exact price you paid for a second hand one, i believe. Yesterday i visited my local dealer, now no longer selling new bikes because BSA messed him about and he told me that BSA had ordered more bikes than they could sell so their trying to offload these 2023 bikes before winter. Second hand prices will be hammered now.
Hi Ian. Interesting times with BSA at the moment. So, I have worked in India, I have worked with Indians, and Indian businesses. I sort of know how they think and how orders come from above. Having no interest in the concept of marketing, or does not see the value of marketing, and being quite egotistic, someone from Mahindra will have been shouted at (because that’s what happens) at a Mahindra product owner. This product owner would have BSA in their portfolio. That product owner naturally screams at the head of BSA. The price must come down as this will grab sales. Hence, the reduction - regardless of their current user base and how they would feel in the value reduction of their purchased asset (the BSA bike). They just don’t care about their customers - and this is typical. That sets the scene from Mahindra / BSA perspective. From a consumer perspective, this is a brand killer. Al those who bought a BSA may well feel a little bitter at the thought of their bike now being valued at least £1000 lower than what they thought. I would an am upset however, as an owner, you should not be too upset unless you are wanting to sell the bike. I know in August 2024, the Gold Star is to be released in India for 3.5 Lakhs, about £3800 (I assume this is the base model) which, for the local market, is expensive compared to Royal Enfield offerings. I fear that BSA will not sell too well in India as it is not a known brand unlike Royal Enfield and other larger brands (Honda). BSA relationships with Dealers: sorry to say this but the trouble the dealers are having is no surprise to me. I have seen this business model before and I find it crazy to work with. It’s an eastern model that does not work in a western world. Mahindra and BSA should have looked at the working models from Royal Enfield - then I assume everything would have been just fine. Personally, the BSA is a great bike and I think it is the most authentic modern retro on the streets. It’s a great bike. Furthermore, I reached out to BSA for simple support in taking my BSA to the USA and riding Route 66 as a marketing exercise. Unfortunately, they had absolutely no interest - which didn’t surprise me too much
Hi Richard, another good video from you sir. I really like the Pan Am and was thinking of buying one to add to my other two Davidsons but when push came to shove I opted for the Speedmaster instead and I'm happy with my decision. There are still a few software issues with the Pan Am so I'll wait a while yet. A few of my club members own and love them. I've been offered a test ride on a few occasions so maybe I'll take them up on it next time. Keep up the good work!
Seems a decent bike, albeit the looks are clearly divisive, I’m sure it’s a very capable mile muncher. I’m not surprised you couldn’t find the indicators, there are buttons galore to choose from!
Hey Richard, that was another fun H.D. ride. I personally like the Pan Am. If I were younger & in the market for a bike, I would road test one. You did a really nice job with this video my friend. Have a wonderful day! Cheers!!
Very interesting how much better you got on with the Pan America, it’s seems to be a fully loaded adventure bike but at the price point would I rather have a road adventure Triumph/Yamaha/Honda etc and an off road mid capacity 400/500, yes I think I would. With the prices for the off roaders from China and India it’s very do able currently. I wish they had the Harley’s instant seat comfort though, nothing I’ve sat on since my 2003 suzuki SV genuine comfort seat comes close to being all day comfortable, I don’t know who specifies the padding these days but they should be made to sit on them for an extended period without remission 😂 Great first impressions vid again

great bike Peter, but the bottons remind me of my 2011 Merc E class - button madness 😆
