  • This is my 1989 Lady Kenmore top load washer model 110.82993510 doing a full wash cycle on a large blanket. I have this machine as well as the matching dryer which I will also do a video on. I will also do a general video on this machine showing it up close. This is a top of the line model with all the fancy bells and whistles for the time. Both this washer and the dryer were manufactured by Whirlpool, this is a classic direct drive machine with the dual action agitator.
    My water pressure tends to be a bit low so the fill times are a bit longer than they should be in this video. This set is in black which seems to be a pretty rare option for the time they were made and sold. This machines is built how washers should be built, it fills to the desired level, likes to use warm and hot water, and has a transmission as apposed to an electronically controlled motor. The only electronics in this machine are for the automatic water temperature control which can be turned off. Both the washer and dryer also have a light to illuminate the time dial when the machine is running. I do plan on eventually fully refurbishing this set, however since it my only washer I need to plan out when I do it. These are some of the most reliable machines ever produced, and when they do need service, parts are plentiful and fairly cheap. These machines are also very easy to service, you can have the entire transmission out in well under an hour if you needed to. They were produced to be easy to service, and are pretty much idiot proof.
    Only work done to it was replacement of the agitator dogs (as well as the assembly they are part of) and a new pump since the original pump showed signs of a minor seal leak even though it was not active when I checked it. I also bypassed the lid switch so I would spin with the lid open. Otherwise, it would only fill and agitate unless the lid was closed. The switch is still mounted in the machine and that mod is 100% reversible if needed.

    It's a classic Whirlpool Direct Drive, even down to the distinct "chunka chunka chunka" sound it makes. They are some of the best and most reliable washing machines ever made.

      @wocko1 These machines are great, I don't think anything compares to these with cleaning performance, reliability, and serviceability. GE Filter Flo cleans just as well, but it's not as reliable or as easy to work on. It's unfortunate that these washers are no longer made, I think last one I saw for sale was about 5 years ago and it was a small stackable unit.

    Let me tell you something, if the incoming president assured me that we could get regular water levels back in our washing machine and showers, I would vote for them. This is the washer that my grandmother used to have and I’m telling you, never had cleaner clothes.

    • @brunoshow124
      @brunoshow124  20 дней назад

      @Bnizzofashizzo It's a shame they've gone the way they have. Between the low water levels and the electronic crap, the new machines are junk. I wish they still made simple machines that fill and use a transmission to shift modes. Everything I put in this machine comes out clean, and aside from my crappy water pressure making it take a bit to fill sometimes, quick.

      @@brunoshow124 in my old apartment, we had speed queen front load washers that they replaced the top load washers with. The bedding that my dog slept on, started coming out dirty. My white towels were no longer white. I had to pre-treat stains on my clothes, etc. My new place has old school filled to the top washers and my clothes have never been more clean. tap hot water. The whole 9 yards. Speed queen has a variety of top load washers but their best model is I believe the T5 or TC five with the old school agitation. Something is energy efficient. If you have to wash it three or four times I’ll never know. my grandmother had this washing machine and of course this was before you had a hard time finding detergent that wasn’t made for HE washers. The best sleep on earth would be if she washed your sheets, when you were visiting for the weekend, in the old school tide washing powder, and hung them on the line to dry outside . Oh my goodness.

      @JoshuaAndMom You can find another one, I bought this working set off Facebook marketplace for 80 dollars. I just had to go get them in my truck. I rebuilt the dryer, put in new oem rollers, belt, and felt seals. I put in a new motor since the original had a slight rumble to it as well as the blower wheel even though the original was fine. The washer needed an agitator dog kit and a pump and a new drain hose. Totally worth it.

    I'm surprised that the tub isn't oscillating during agitation like it usually does!

    • @brunoshow124
      @brunoshow124  28 дней назад

      I just noticed that too. It does ever so slightly. It's possible the suspension is a bit stiff or worn or the tub pads are worn. I wanna do a full rebuild on this machine at some point relatively soon. Next time I run it I'm going to look and see how it looks in person.

    You don't see the older style machines with the triple dispensers too often, especially in black. Sadly a lot of the parts for this machine, like the diverters are NLA.

      @MatthewJames-st5wv yea, its a pretty rare set. I have the matching dryer too in black. I know a lot of the parts are hard to come by, but at least the major parts like the motor and drive train parts are still produced. And used parts are available. It's still worth it considering the reliability and performance.

    • @brunoshow124
      @brunoshow124  24 дня назад +1

      @mustangdbest220 I actually adjusted the water level on this. It used to be lower, I guess the calibration of the fill switch got knocked off. I have it so it fills to where it is in this video, which I believe is about an inch below the bevel on the top of the tub, or in between the top 2 sets of holes. If I hold the level on "reset," it will fill higher.

    • @brunoshow124
      @brunoshow124  12 дней назад

      @alextilson5809 Most of the wash action takes place at the bottom of the tub. The bottom of the agitator has fins that knock dirt out of the garment as well as push water through the fabric. These washers, in particular, are known to be some of the best performing machines ever made. The method of cleaning in a top loader with an agitator is drastically different than, say, a front load machine.
