Chat/Comment Guidelines:
1: Respect each other, do not intentionally cause arguments and diffuse the situation immediately.
2: Please no backseat gaming. If I need help, I will ask the chat for help. A lot of the fun for myself and the viewers is coming up with the strategies on my own and solving problems in my own unique way.
3: Listen to the streamer. If I say stop, I mean stop, and move the discussion on.
4: Please don't reference other creators' in-jokes and running gags on my stream. Just as much as I wouldn't like another creator using my lore, I would find it disrespectful to use other creators' lore.
5: Moderators' and streamer's decisions are final.
The Rules:
1: The timer starts when walking away from Professor Elm after receiving the starter Pokémon.
2: Only the Challenge Pokémon may participate in battle.
3: No items in battle, except Balls from the bag.
4: No evasion-increasing TMs, and no Rest and Sleep Talk TMs until every other option has been exhausted.
5: No intentional uses of glitches or exploits, except the Teleport glitch after the SS Aqua.
6: No Rare Candies until facing Red. Rare Candies will be used in a 3-3-4 pattern.
7: Timer may be paused for breaks in recording, but no inputs may be made when the timer is paused.
8: Save states are permitted in the overworld, but no save states may be used mid-battle.
9: If the challenge Pokémon faints, the previous save state must be reloaded and progress regained.

You dismantling miltank with a single pidgeotto sand attack just made all of our Whitney trauma trivial 😂
I'm so happy that the entire Pidgey line is so much more usable in Gen 2. Stats are quite mediocre but the typing alone plus a good early game level up group is excellent offensively for the whole game which makes it very easy and intuitive to use. And I enjoyed the stream where you did Pidgeot after Kingler 11 months ago.
Spoiler: I think what enabled Pidgeot to overtake Girafarig was the exp groups, Medium Slow vs Medium Fast. Medium Slow is just a bit faster especially in the early parts of the run and helped get it over the weaknesses associated with starting with lower stats compared to being a single stage. They have the same base atk stat of 80 as well so their returns would be equivalent in the late game, except that Pidgeot was 5 levels higher at the end of the game which gives it better ranges against red. The electric weakness is worse, but it only comes up in a handful of fights Pidgeot's good luck on Jasmine getting 2 back to back crits on the Magnemites was pretty nice and in general it had good luck where it needed it. Also good call resetting on Karen, the seconds mattered quite a bit here.
While I appreciate the spoiler warning, I would have loved if there were more characters or spaces to avoid the spoiler. I - and I think most people (which I can say as a UX practitioner professionally) - don’t read every word in single chunks left to right. I absorbed the whole sentence before “spoiler” clicked, and that was the moment I opened the video.
That said, still excited to watch!
@@paulmyers258 Well, to be fair you went to the comment section before watching.
@@ACountrymansLPs I actually opened the video, and when you do, one comment appears below the video indicating you can click on it to view all comments. That was the comment surfaced at the very start of the video, I had not clicked into the comments section. If I had, that would have been fair critique, though!
I found myself cheering for you at the end of the video like usually, but I was so hyped for Pidgeot to win and you did so amazing showcasing how good it can be. You got me tearing up squidgy. As always, looking forward to your next video.
I did NOT see that result coming. Wide eyed at the end there. Funny when compared to Gen 1 when you think about it!
It's bugged me since 1997 that Pidgeot and Pidgeotto's names aren't swapped.
I remember in The First Movie the trainer with a Pidgeot say hurricane winds are a breeze for Pidgeotto here. Makes you wonder whether it was originally called Pidgeotto but was changed at the last minute
Hmm, I don't know, one typo in the English dub of the first movie isn't enough to make me question it. R/B/Y all say Pidgeot, and they came out before the film
@@Alduinhead I just want the bird's name to get longer as it gets bigger, is that so much to ask for?
The way you narrate your runs is always so enjoyable!
I don't really pay attention to the time when you are running and can generally get a decent idea of where the run will placed based just on your play by play.
But today when reaching pidgeot I was so confused when you were talking about how close it could be to a top leader board finished based on the Lance time. I never realized how fast the Kanto section was. Maybe it has to do with the new format where you talk about a topic during Kanto but I thought it was much longer.
Fast forward to red and I was like oh yeah Kanto took nothing
I never expected Pidgeot to get this time, this is awesome! Probably the level up group + being normal type in Gen 2 helped him a lot!
Let’s goooooo! Congrats on the new leader of the pack Squidgy! Glad you’re doing well and back!
Amazing finish! I was not expecting it to do so well, nice run
Great run Squidgeotto! I love this bird line :D
Sub-hour Lance Fight is always super exciting. Congratulations Squidgy! You played it super well and routing it so that Surge is last was really clever!
When I got that sub-hour Lance, I knew straight away that I wasn't gonna risk Surge until I absolutely had to! That's the beauty of Gen II Kanto, you can face the gym leaders in literally any order!
@@Squidgy Gen 2 Pokemon took a huge leap forward with the games. I've been practicing with Godot recently, and wanted to make a fan game where it's in the style of Pokemon Gold but you can go to all sorts of other regions, but if I do that Nintendo will kill my family so I've had to avoid it.
I hate that it drops my favorite to the page one drop zone but I’m so impressed that you got that result with Pidgeot! Keep up the great work man!
All of the Kanto starters are gonna get a redo in the new year - it's about time I gave them a second shot, and I reckon Charizard will be back up higher in the top 10 afterwards!
I needed this advice today. Thank you Squidgy and absolutely loving the videos this week ❤
Holy cow. You go, little Pidgey! Excellent run!
Your best run up until this point, keep it up👍🏻
Congrats Squidge!
Underrated pie ingredient. 🤤 Amazing time! Make sure to offer him some warm cosy pastry for his hard work 🙂
I didn't expect it! Return OP.
Dam pidgeot
Did not expect such a high end time
Pidgeot with HP ice is one cool birb.
I know it's not the best bird. But it's my bird. (Though articuno does run it close).
I am so glad it got a time to reflect it's status as the OG bird we all fell in love with from the anime.
Proof positive that plucky trumps stats any day of the week.
Hooray! More squidgey! Super fun video. I was exhausted with suspense by the end of the run!
Incredibly impressive its atop the leaderboard even having had to evolve twice. Will you possibly try a run with just Pidgeot, no pre-evolved forms?
Absolutely! Pidgeot will be getting its own run in the new series which starts next month. I'm thinking probably a spring run for fully-evolved Pidgeot :)
I love this line it is the next best bird next to Fletchling line
Wish I had hair like that haha good video
Pidgeot has a pretty good combination:
Normal STAB is insane, especially early game.
High PP moves with serviceable power like Return and Wing Attack.
Okay offensive stats, even a special hidden power is useable.
Medium Fast EXP group.
Prime position for an excellent time.
Pidgeot is actually Medium Slow which is even better than Medium Fast (when you're not trying to get to Lvl 100).
Yes! Big Pidgey fan here, so I’m happy it’s getting such an excellent run!
all hail squidgeot!!!
What a very unexpected result, very fun to watch though
I had zero expectations of Pidgeot being in top spot when I started the recording! It was a massive surprise!
You should have called it Squidgeot :P
That one's coming with the fully-evolved run!
Wooo a new champion for the leaderboards!
Nice Pidgey run. Bird Up
I really expected a mid performance from pidgeot. I'm always happy to be proven wrong (when a Pokemon performs better, that is)
I really want to try doing a solo run of every Pokémon game with my fave mon my only issue is the back port into gen 1 from 2
Yeah I'd have the same issues since I use a mobile android phone.
Nice run
I think pidgeot will be very fast, and top ten.
Hell yea Squideot!!!
I'm thinking the only pokemon that have a real chance to dethrone here would be either Lugia or Mewtwo.
One of those has been recorded, the other hasn't! I can tell you that the one which has been recorded didn't beat Pidgeot's time, but was still within 90 seconds of breaking the record.
Man, it's always such a hype when I see you getting a new number one in the leaderboard.
By the way, which do you think is the pokémon with the highest potential to be the absolute number one? Not counting any backport, but considering you at your peak performance and redoing any run you feel could be improved. Do you think you could even reach an under 1 hour run?
My personal best in my own time (with a backport) is a 1:06:00, and I'm fairly certain I could get that time a little bit lower. I'm not sure about a sub 1-hour run, though, because my rules mean I don't use Rare Candies until the end.
There are a few redos in the works that could topple Pidgeot, and I reckon a couple of the legendaries we've got coming up will have a good chance of taking top spot, too.
Ones to watch out for at first glance are Fearow, Dodrio, Granbull, Ho-oh, and Scyther!
@@Squidgy Yeah? I thought legends being in the slow xp group and usually not having good low lvl moves was the reason they didn't get very high up. Anyways, I'll be seeing how those go. Good luck!
There are a couple of legendary Pokémon whose stats are just about high enough, and their starting moves are just about good enough to mean they can get by at lower levels, especially if I play a little bit riskier than I normally would!
We'll have to see how they go - we've got quite a few legendary Pokémon being done before the end of the year, and I reckon one or two might get some very good times.
I always thought pidgeot had pitiful special attack so i was rather surprised to see it was workable.
Does a new leader require a new multi game run? 🤔😂
I think I need another year to recover from that marathon! We'll have to see who's top of the leaderboard by August next year! :D
Spoilers.
I was surprised at the time.
Yayy Pidgeot!!! ❤ My fave bird
I’m going to be optimistic and guess for a top 5 finish
This is the starting pokemon with x amount of HP.
I wonder what item it's holding?
We're holding a berry.
As usual. 🤣🤣🤣
Then again, what else could you hold in the beginning? 😊😊😊
Should have done “Squidgeot”
… I won’t judge
I'm saving that for the Pidgeot fully-evolved run!
down vote for such a short video
I would love to see Staraptor solo run crystal then, oh my!
I've added Staraptor to the backport list, it's one I really want to do, but sprites could take some time!
@Squidgy yes! Only thing is the hidden power ice might not be as effective unless rock HP is strong enough to OHKO Lance
9:12 he said minimalizes 😂
10:17 what happened to the HP UP trick dude
In my haste at the League, I'd accidentally thrown out the Bitter Berry, so we went for backup strats of just the HP Up.
@@Squidgy oops lol
😎very impressive!
I was wondering why Pidgeot got such a good time and I think it might be because of type boost?
IDK how real this is but I heard gen 2 has a mechanic that gives you a 12.5% boost to any move of a gym leader you beat
and beating gym #1 and #3 gave you boost on both of your stab moves and as you mentioned Return is very powerful to begin with
You are absolutely correct - the Flying-type does get a 12.5% boost for getting Falkner's badge, and I believe you also get a boost to your Physical moves at the same time.
So, by the time you're three badges in with a Normal/Flying Pokémon, you've got extra damage on your STAB moves, and that turns a lot of ranges and two-shots into easy one-shots allowing you to fly through the game.
For me, I don't time my runs, I just try to finish at a decent level, and if I can finish in under 2 hours, I think that's just fine, it's when it takes 3+ hours is when it becomes tiresome lol. A lot of the runs I do are first form Pokemon, I tried Magikarp in Pokemon Crystal With no items in battle, and I screwed up, I could've possibly beat Lance had I tried for Flail + Pink Bow when I had low health after Karen, but I will redo that run one day if I can get a good GBC Android emulator. I use to use John GBC, GBA, and GBAC, however now they're obsolete because I believe the developer bugged those emulators, because no matter what I do, the emulator likes to pretend it doesn't see the game files, and just says "game file not found" when I can clearly see the file downloaded in the folder! So sad how good things become bad at a later point in life. It sucks.
Anyway I can't wait for more content buddy!
LETSSSS GOOO
Hehe squidgeot
Go birb
squidgy is cool
Sand attack OP, Game Freak please nerf
Imagine beating the game with the worst pokemon ever, im impressed.
Where's JRose?
Awesome run and a life lesson. Squidgy is the man!
