  • Ever wondered what that weird circular metal piece is between your tub’s drain and faucet? It’s an overflow cover. It hides the overflow pipe behind it. It allows water to flow through it to a drain, which prevents your tub from overflowing.

My plumber said he needs to cut the wall (there's no access panel) is he just trying rip me off. I watched a few of these and everyone does it from the front only

Huh. Seems odd to me. Replacing the overflow plate shouldn’t require cutting a hole in the wall. But I’m certainly not a plumber. Maybe there’s a reason they need to do that?

Hey there! I just used some Lysol household spray cleaner and a warm rag. Goo gone would be another good option or some dish soap mixed with hot water.

how can the water flow out because the opening is facing down?

It won’t matter. When the water gets that high, it will drain.
