My grandma called this baloney spread, old metal grinder attached to the table, sweet pickle relish, little onion, and Miracle whip. Last time I had it was 1977. I was 18. Thanks for the memory.
That looks absolutely amazing Sarah, I have never seen or heard of a bologna salad ever before. After watching this I am definitely going to give this a go. Thank you again for such a fantastic idea
This brings back wonderful memories of my Dad making this with an old fashioned metal grinder. He’ll be gone 20 years now on the 13th of Feb. We always took these ground bologna sandwiches on fishing trips etc. Because of our family of 7, I would line up the Schaffer’s Bread on the long counter, then spread on the sandwich filling, someone else would top them and then put them back into the now empty bread bag. Those sandwiches were always soo darn good!! Thanks for the memories sister! I’m gonna go out this week and buy me some bologna to make this in my dad’s honor!
Sorry your father is not with you. Mine is gone too now, for last 5 years. I think of him every single day -- in some way. But, at least, we both had good fathers.
There's something so nice about hearing "whatever you want" so many times during a cooking video. I'm so apprehensive in the kitchen and it makes me feel confident and at ease

Thank you, God Bless
Interesting. Oddly enough, bologna and cheese sandwiches are one of my favorite! Of course I add plain chips in my sandwich too!! Thanks for the video!! 😊
Just had to respond...Back in the ‘50s on family va-ca, Dad wanted to keep driving, “makin time”. All Mom had left to feed us, was white bread, potato chips, and mayo. My sister and I loved it! We still talk about how good it was. Every now and then, I will have a half one for old times sake!
I remember putting lays chips in my bologna sandwiches before my family and I drove to the reservoir to swim 🥰 those sandwiches somehow tasted even better after getting out of the water!

This is American middle class food? Is Bologna expensive? In the U.K, this food would be classed as poverty food, so it’s interesting to see the cultural difference.
@@ravioliravioligivemethefor5794 Actually it used to be easily obtained at low income here in the States. Now, a half of a pound of beef bologna is quite expensive at nearly $4. Chicken, turkey and mixed cuts are much cheaper. Either way, Sara does represent good ole blue collar comfort food. Love her.
I was pleasantly surprised to find mostly friendly, accepting comments here! At first, I kind of wrinkled my face up at the idea of "bologna salad," but I have to admit that, the more I watched, the more I wanted to try this!! lol

Make her famous? What for? To enable her to think it's okay to cook these things because it's for a video when, just like unhealthy mukbangs, it's just an excuse? To enable her to gain weight? To welcome even more bullying comments about her all over the internet? Everyone knows damn well what she cooks is not anything new or special, they take pity on her because of the bullying and the way she sounds very sweet. Time to wake up.
there was a supermarket I used to frequent that sold a ground ham salad like this. It was amazing. I thought of that when I clicked the link and glad I did. Need more "old fashioned" recipes like this for sure on the internet. For the pickle juice, I like to reserve it and soak my raw chicken in it for a day or two before frying it up and olive juice is even better for that.
I have an old meat grinder, and I was raised on this stuff lol it's good. My Dad put any leftover meat thru it and made sandwich spread. Turkey is amazing too. He just added boiled eggs and sweet pickles with whatever meat, as I do mine. It's good stuff ❤ you go girl
To clean any grinder attachment, when complete, run a few slices of bread through till it comes out clean. Then wash and sanitize as recommended. Much easier to get all the gunk out of the nooks and crannies.
I'll be 60yrs young in November & I have NEVER heard of Bologna salad!!!!!! The best bologna I've ever had was from Mississippi💯 She's a cutie patootie💯🥰🥰🥰

We call it poor man’s ham salad…bologna, pickles, n onions, add mayo…
Lol, my mum used to get tins of pork luncheon meat, she’d cut it into slices and fry it and we called it square bacon
I still crave it
but where's the salad?
Sarah and her sweet soft little voice says" Oop left a pickle out, I gotta eat it" . That was cute, it got me a little tickled .🥰
Amanda Morgan me too. I had to rewind twice. She’s adorable.
that's exactly when I clicked the thumbs up.
@Ron Booker sick..
If yah colored your finger green she would probably think it was a pickle so watch out
Am I losing it...why did I sick? I swear I replied to someone else.
I had to scroll the comments before commenting because I honestly didn’t know if everyone liked her. I was protectively looking to see if anyone was being mean. I was so happy to see you all see what I see. She is the sweetest wholesome thing ever! I love when she says “you do it your way.” She is literally the most supportive person I can see her telling her family that and how nice that must be to be around such a nice person on a daily basis.
The recipes are wow to me based on growing up with a single mom who ate nothing but brown rice and veggies here in southern Cali ...this is truly a treat! Love Sara!
Cinamon I did the same thing!!!
No shallow people here
Yes! It was so heartwarming to see all these positive comments!
Yes! I did the same thing. I was ready to pounce on anyone being disrespectful of this excellent chef.
Honestly I usually get a kick out writing mean comments myself but I was about 10 seconds in to one of her videos and I was in love...she’s so sweet and funny 😆
Not sure what I expected when I clicked but she is just plain pleasant. A true gem of youtube
Add boiled eggs. Delicious.
@@darleneevans9035 wow... boiled eggs sounds like a great way to enhance the salad now and then. Thx for you advice !
I agree! So many scammers and grifters on YT lately. Sara is a genuine hard working lady sharing her skills in a very heartwarming way. Even if you don’t care for a recipe, you can’t help but like Sara.
This is such a sweet video. I really enjoy the way Sara patiently explains everything. Thank you Sara for this nice time with you in your kitchen.
During this quarantine time I am having some anxiety. I went to find a video to entertain me. I decided to check this out cause I like cooking shows. You have the most relaxing voice! Not only am I learning a recipe, you are helping me feel calm! Thank you!
My mom would always take the left over ham from Easter, and do this grinding and make the best ham salad.when you have six kids, it was a treat ,ham salad sandwiches with lettuce on homemade bread.when the ham was all trimmed she would boil ham bone and make navy been soup
It was a treat
I think we had the same mom. Did she put sweet pickles in the ham salad? Yum.
My mom to... No waste. Single mom of 4
Man I sure miss my mom..🙏🙏🙏
My mom called it deviled ham
Not a fan of bologna and LOATHE mayo but you’re damn straight I watched this whole video. There’s something relaxing about your channel
Agreed! This is unintentional ASMR. It's wonderful! Love her channel!
i dont understand the sexuality context of "youre damn straight". is it an american slang thing
starfox there's zero sexuality with it.
@@starfox1 "Straight" in this instance isn't referring to straight versus gay. In this context, "straight" means correct.

My first Sara video love your stuff watch u all the time
I'm not a bologna fan but my husband saw me watching this and now he's begging like a dog. Guess I will make it tonight, going to use the food processor to shred everything. Thanks for the video.
Not watching this for the recipe considering that i’m Cuban and this isnt my cup of tea, but i must say SHE IS A GEM AND MUST BE PROTECTED AT ALL COSTS 🥺 I watch her because she seems so genuine and really loves what she does, I want to hug her! Keep doing what you’re doing its amazing!!!!💕💕💕
Agree.....though my hubs grew up eating this and I have yet to try it. I think I will make some, but a much smaller batch. She is a doll and I would love to meet and talk with her. She seems very genuine.
I agree....
She's a peach.....love the videos....
We loved it when we were kids, but I haven't thought about it in years, now I'll have to make some.
Looks like some slop I used to make growing up, good memories. One thing....when are we going to stop using the term "Protect this person at all costs"? Nobody is gonna protect any people at all costs so why say it ? :) Its just as bad as calling everything a "hack" anymore. We need to move on from these.
This is the first time I’ve ever watched a video from you and this is awesome. I also absolutely love scrolling through the comments and seeing the positivity radiating. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a comment section so wonderful before. You truly lead by example. You’re very sweet and down to earth. Just subscribed!
Ain't that the truth!
Love your videos Sarah !

Omgawd now I have seen everything. I have never even heard of baloney salad. Fascinating 🧐
It's awesome. And I don't normally like bologna.
My grandma called this baloney spread, old metal grinder attached to the table, sweet pickle relish, little onion, and Miracle whip. Last time I had it was 1977. I was 18. Thanks for the memory.
5-14-59 here.
We still make it that way here in Northern Wisconsin, it was/is usually served after wakes, so it began to be called funeral sandwiches.
Yep, an old babysitter of mine in Southern Illinois used the metal meat grinder and ham, 1970's. I can still taste it!
There's a reason nobody (almost) eats bologna.
My aunt used pickle relish my mom didn’t not sure what grandma did

That looks absolutely amazing Sarah, I have never seen or heard of a bologna salad ever before. After watching this I am definitely going to give this a go. Thank you again for such a fantastic idea
This brings back wonderful memories of my Dad making this with an old fashioned metal grinder.
He’ll be gone 20 years now on the 13th of Feb.
We always took these ground bologna sandwiches on fishing trips etc.
Because of our family of 7,
I would line up the Schaffer’s Bread on the long counter, then spread on the sandwich filling, someone else would top them and then put them back into the now empty bread bag.
Those sandwiches were always soo darn good!!
Thanks for the memories sister!
I’m gonna go out this week and buy me some bologna to make this in my dad’s honor!
Oh ...sweet
Awe I wasnt as lucky I had potted meat but it sounds familiar lolol
That sounds so nice
What a fun old school recipe, it brings back memories for me as well. 👍🏼😊
Sorry your father is not with you. Mine is gone too now, for last 5 years. I think of him every single day -- in some way. But, at least, we both had good fathers.
my hope in humanity has been renewed after reading the comments section to this video
Sometimes humanity is amazing! I was thinking much the same thing.

It is remarkable that it did not turn into 9Gag, 4Chan, or Reddit.
There's something so nice about hearing "whatever you want" so many times during a cooking video. I'm so apprehensive in the kitchen and it makes me feel confident and at ease
I think it’s so sweet that she’s so devoted to her craft. It’s a heck of a lot more than I’m doing these days. Sending ❌⭕️ to you, Sara.

I love how Sarah gives many options for her recipes, I'd never thought to add cheese. She's such an easy teacher to follow too! Bless you Sarah!!
Plain chips on a bologna or turkey sandwich is the best! The only way I eat my sandwiches.
I add fritos
I remember putting lays chips in my bologna sandwiches before my family and I drove to the reservoir to swim 🥰 those sandwiches somehow tasted even better after getting out of the water!

This is American middle class food? Is Bologna expensive? In the U.K, this food would be classed as poverty food, so it’s interesting to see the cultural difference.
@@ravioliravioligivemethefor5794 bologna is poverty food
K that’s what I thought, but OP said “middle class” and “real food”
@@ravioliravioligivemethefor5794 I think the cooking lady is probably middle class, but the meal is not.
Love her.
