    As a multi-generational Pixel owner with GrapheneOS as my daily driver - my biggest gripe with Graphene is backup. The Nextcloud backup option is so, so broken, and the USB backup works like a charm but is manual and takes a *long time* to complete. Neither of these options are ready for mainstream adoption. Other than that, the Pixel's running GrapheneOS are really great and I highly recommend them.

      @@TCKRDefense thanks, I fixed the typo. I do love Nextcloud though - I use it every day. GrapheneOS uses SeedVault to get backups sent to a Nextcloud destination. The problem is SeedVault seems to be a dead project now. So we're left with very slow manual backups to a USB device, and non-functional backups to Nextcloud destinations. Neither of these is good.

      I would also like this! Quick tip, I forget if he mentioned on the video, but you can use the Aurora store as a proxy to get Google Play apps from some account in France. They have a few different options so you have like a fully transparent, semi transparent, and completely hidden options. I hope I explained it well, but either way I'd recommend looking into it instead of just listening to me, some random mortal on the Internet.

      @@chloe-sunshine7 That's an extremely good point and the Aurora Store works well for obtaining an apps that are free in the Google Play Store.
      But, in my case, I really have to have a very good reason to run any closed source software these days - for example, in Linux and under WINE I use Irfanview (free image viewer), Tag&Rename (audio file organiser and tagger) and ClrMAMEPro (for auditing and renaming old retro game ROM files), because (for me at least) they are applications that I used for some years under Windows (until I ditched Windows after Windows 7), but they are the only three closed source applications I use now (if you exclude a few older games that I play, again, in WINE or Proton).

    Thank you, for all of the hard work you contribute to the community!
    Especially, in the privacy and security area!
    I love your channel. You’re always teaching people something and actually recommending good advice for them to follow if they’re looking to enhance their privacy/security.
    Unlike most RUclipsrs who are just sellouts, peddling VPN subscriptions.
    😂🤣😂
    But, I just want to say that you don’t look like what I thought you would. L😂🤣😂
    But I mean that in a good way.
    Also, you have a nice head shape.
    If you would just go hit up a good barber and have them give you a fresh fade and reshape that beard (just have them trim off the split ends if you want to keep the length and grow it out), you’d be absolutely killing them!
    A lot of men don’t realize how important it is to be a regular customer at the barbershop.
    Not only will you look better, but, you’ll also feel a million times better as well.
    Theres nothing wrong with taking some pride in your appearance!
    Plus, the barbershop becomes something like a safe haven/therapy session…
    ESPECIALLY, if you have a good barber!
    I’d recommend looking for one who fits the profile of an original old school barber. These guys are often independent thinkers and traditional in their values and enjoy taking about things on the topic of privacy/security/off-grid/survival techniques/etc.
    Thanks again, for all of your hardwork!

So for example, I have instagram installed on both profiles and it will tell me that I have a notification from instagram from my second user. Then I can just open the app on my main profile to see what the notification was. GrapheneOS. CalyxOS isn't completely degoogled, it in fact still runs some services in privileged mode. Also, MicroG is disliked by LineageOS because its spoofing is a security risk. Realistically, CalyxOS isn't good for any threat model and has fewer range of apps you can use, let alone safely.

    GrapheneOS' logo is a single layer of carbon atoms in a 2-dimensional honeycomb lattice. Each honeycomb consists of 6 carbon atoms forming a hexagon (6 sided polygon). Carbon is the number 6 on the periodic table because it has 6 protons, 6 neutrons and 6 electrons. 666.

    Just got crDroid (lineage based) installed on my phone, cause it was one of the few roms available for my model. Used magisk to remove google's key services and put microG on it.
    Besides locking the bootloader, what privacy features does GrapheneOS have that Lineage and magisk cannot achieve?

    • @railgun9992

      I use crdroid too (poco m3) but i too scared to locking the bootloader

    • @Xtrems
      @Xtrems Год назад +4

      Locking the bootloader is more security than privacy. And on that topic, achieving the same thing graphene does with magisk on a different phone is inherently insecure as you're not only having an unlocked bootloader, but are rooting the phone.

    • @seancurl4102
      @seancurl4102 Год назад +1

      I recommend reading the grapheneos webpage about the security and privacy features. But I see lineageos and any other roms besides calyxos and grapheneos as basically a modded version of stock android with some bare bones privacy features, definitely recommend grapheneos though. I'm using it on a pixel 5a and my only 'issue' is notifications from apps that require google services but you can add those if you want, I say 'issue' because it doesnt really bother me and in fact it helps me lessen my time on my phone by letting me check notifications when I want to, not be bothered by it randomly. (im a little tipsy btw sory)

      I take a simpler approach - I don't put much of my personal data on a device that I deliberately turn into a "dumbphone" using a simple Lineage OS build anyway, so I don't have to then worry about "paranoid" security settings.
