What a huge reason TO NOT BUY A KTM!
Had Speed Triple, now an MT10. Thought about a Super Duke but not a chance.
    Hope you get something sorted.

Man, I feel for you. Mine only has 150 miles on it.....hopefully it does not have the same issues. I have owned 5 KTM's and they have always been very reliable, literally no issues at all. I hope your struggles end soon. It is a shame because it is such a good bike and I chose it over all other naked bikes. Best of luck!

It's getting movement now after the 5th complaint, got an inspector coming over on Friday to take a look at the thing. Hopefully it'll be gone this time next week, I'm keeping fingers crossed.
Weirdly enough I was watching your videos regarding the MT10 last week (looking at switching to one if I can) and recognised your area, I was there in September with family down in treaddur, used to go all the time with my mam and nan as a little'un. My family are from Holyhead.

Thanks for watching 😃I can highly recommend the MT-10 out of all the hyper nakeds it is the most carefree as far as servicing, reliability etc, sounds and rides amazing esp the SP. Shwmae from the home country. Wales is under-rated that's a good thing. You'll have to come for a ride around mid and south Wales when you get it sorted. Good luck

Such a shame, the new SDR has so much potential and could easily be one of the best bikes on the planet when it works. Idk why the new ones seem to be plagued with issues, mainly with the electronics it seems. I own a Gen2 superduke and don't have any issues with it (touch wood), and it is easily the best bike I have ever owned. I've seen quite a lot of people with SDR's well over 100,000 kms, seems to be a pretty reliable motor. I really feel for you mate, you have had such bad luck. I hope you get it all sorted and can move onto a bike that doesn't let you down. All the best

I bought a 2022 SDGT in March and Got rid of it in September after shutdowns in the middle of nowhere, new battery, and then constant ECM warnings with multiple trips to the dealer to interpret codes. Not as bad as yours, loved the bike, but never had the confidence to go on long rides, as every outing came up with a warning light of some sort and then back to the dealer. All the reviews by 'journalists' never have real world experience reported, and yes they are fantastic to ride but...Took the pain and dumped it.

  • @futre83

I had a 2015 super duke. Amazing handling and performance, while being confortable and versatile. That being said, I had the back wheel almost coming of twice, the rear wheel hub started having some play and need replacment, the front fork sealents need to be replaced, my radiator also leaked and need to be replaced. All that in the span of 1 or 2 years and about 18000 km ( about 11000 miles).
Although I road it fast sometimes, It was never abusive.
My Track 2010 R6 never, ever gave me any problems and suffered alot more.
It a shame, because the duke was really the one for me and sometimes I dream of having another one, but they are crazy expensive and still haunted by reliability gremlins. When you spend so much on a bike you want the performance and all the premium bits an pieces, but you also need to trust your bike. Having to deal with constant prblems and shitty dealers does ruin the experience and puts you off on owing another.

My experience with a KTM Super Adventure S 2022 that has a misfire issue (bike has now around 5000KM, but happened from day 1):
    1. First service intervention was to adjust the fueling mapping and check the ignition pickup gap (I hope I'm not misspelling)=> NO result
    2. Second intervention was to replace the flywheel => NO Result
    3. Third intervention, ignition sensor was replaced => NO Result
    4. Fourth intervention, flywheel replaced again => The issue seem to be fixed (only ridden the bike for 300 KMs so not 100% sure it was fixed).
If you are unlucky you can get a new flywheel (with the new part code) that has the same issue like the one you just replaced. The service has to check very carefully the flywheel for imperfection.
On top of this misfire issue I had the following other issue:
    A. lots of electronic issues which keep appearing and disappearing ( MTC issue, Suspension fault, bluetooth disconnection)
    B. Wobbling at both low and high speed (both with/without topcase and suspension adjusted)
    C. Mirrors have started to rattle inside their cases (after 2000 KMs)
    D. Bike pulls very hard to the right no matter how straight the road is
    E. Left handle grip has started rotating . It feels like I have two throttle handles
    F. After so many service interventions the bike has started to vibrate harder and it resonates very bad between 3000 and 5000 RPM.
After this experience and KTM support interaction I will most probably not buy any bike from them.
The bike has stayed in service for almost one full year, KTM didn't respond any of my emails, they are not willing to extend the warranty, nor the seller or KTM was willing to replace the bike (even if I was willing to support the money difference) although the bike had less than 2000KMs, already 3 interventions and they didn't know how to fix it.
Any bike can have issues no matter the manufacturer, but when the support is also utter shit, then it's a recipe for disaster.
On top of the money I lost buying this bike (yes LOST, I feel like I was scammed) I lost also money on planned vacations which I had to cancel because the bike was still in service, on insurance costs (using the bike or not it doesn't matter for the insurance company). Sorry for the long post, but I really feel frustrated as purchasing the bike was a financial effort for me and it turned out to be a hellish experience instead of a joyful one.

These engines have a dry sump and condensation forms on the inside of the oil tank, mixes with the hot oil vapor forming that white greasy emulsion.
It only really happens if you're running the bike through winter weather and will go away once the oil and surfaces get hot enough to evaporate the moisture and isn't really anything to be worried about.
Having said that, the original RC8s was notorious for eating their water pump impellers and seals, which can lead to coolant getting into the oil itself, which is bad news if it's not caught quickly.
This was traced down to incorrectly machined engine case if memory serves correctly.
You should see the gunk on the oil filler tube on my RC8R if I run short hops through a British winter!
Scared the shit out of me until someone told me what was happening.

I had been considering the 890 but yours and the likeable riders experiance has totally put me off KTM's, I think I'll stick with the Japanese bikes. I understand that manufacturers have to put a whole lot of electronic systems on bikes to get them through emissions but with the added complexity it just becoming a bit of a ballache, I watched a vid the other day about a aussie guy who was giving an old seized DR200, sat out in all weathers for years, the bloke put oil down the spark plug hole changed the oil and filters cleaned the carb, new spark plug, and next day it started second kick and he went on a 10 mile run round some dirt tracks, I honestly dont think my bike would stand a single winter left outside. I did like vid but only to help the channel, I feel bad for you because, like the rest of us you just want to get out and ride. Hope you get something sorted with the finance people.

I got mine in December. Took it out briefly once and noticed a similar brake issue, leak from the clutch cover and also had coolant leak. Back to the shop it went. Again took it out briefly in Feb, same issues except the clutch cover which was fixed. I then went to sea (work) for a little over 3 months. They picked it up and took it back to the shop and returned it while I was away. Took it out Just as I got back in the 10 June. Brake was fixed but while out the KTM bar end mirrors constantly moved when I accelerated and the next day the coolant leak was there again. Not as major issues as you appear to have but this is all after 3 rides and only one proper ride out. Think this bike will be short lived in my ownership.

Thanks to this and other reviews including joining the owners online Facebook page ive already made my decision. I’m currently looking at the next bike to buy for next year and there’s absolutely no way I’m parting with money for a bike with horrendous issues from brand new let alone a few years of hard use. Love the looks etc but I’m not buying. There’s no point in ktm doubling the warranty as a lure because if it’s got a ten year warranty it’s pointless because if it’s in the workshop you’re not riding and with the weather as fickle as it is in this country the last thing you need is a bike sat in a dealer waiting repairs when you could be out there riding. Thanks but no thanks. Respect for the guys reviewing and putting out this information.

WOW !!!!! It's clear that bike is a bad apple. In every brand there are a handful of bad apples. If you're unlucky enough to get one, you're doomed from the start, and puts you off for life. My 2020 SDR is mint and has never had a problem. It's one of the best bikes I have ever had. However if I had your one I would think the exact opposite. Even the best brands out there will have these bad apples and the rest of the products are perfect. You're clearly shit out of luck on that one and to be honest I wouldn't have put up with that for that long. I mean every fluid option on the bike either Leakes or disappears. You could argue almost impossible.
Corrosion? I cant explain that other than winter riding and did you ACF50 it? I personally dont ride in winter due to all the salt and crap on the roads and mainly I cant be arsed to clean it. However those parts shouldn't have gone that bad in. a few weeks of winter riding.
If I were you, I would push for a brand new bike. You know as well as the rest of us the SDR is and should be awesome.
Bear in mind there will be people like yourself who have had the same issues with their MT10's or alike, but generally the rest the owners love them. Its the same with the KTM. If you get a normal one, you will love it like you did when you first got yours... stick with it. Well documented and defo consider a new machine with compensation. Respect !!!!!

Great comments I have a 2021 model and it’s been superb I don’t ride it in the winter though. This bike and other naked bikes are not for riding year round. A different kind of bike is needed for this otherwise it’ll be a rust bucket after a year on our roads.

Gen2 and Gen3 from 2017 and no issues with either apart from the keyless fob had no response once, my first thought was to disconnect battery and reconnect, not happened again so far, also have a ktm 690 no problems but hardly ever use it aswell as some Kawasaki's and two I'm building.
But I'm an ex Kawasaki mechanic so when problems sometimes pop up it's not the same as an owner that does not really no one end of a bike from the other when it come to simple problem solving, maintenance, modding, set up etc etc. One of the things I do hate is the crappy bolts that ktm use but I always swap for black titanium bolts everywhere on the bike. But he has had some shit luck no doubt about it.

    • @AdrianGaunt
      @AdrianGaunt Год назад

Think KTM should push to get the bike back to HQ for a proper post-mortem (so to speak) as they need to identify whether the issues that have manifested are related to the production assembly process or are supplier quality issues. Obviously, for those parts already replaced, no further analysis can be peformed (unless KTM request for those parts to be sent back for analysis, too). On the basis of the number of issue mainfesting in a relatively short time period (actually, the usage level is the important factor here), it would look as though there's a reasonable level of probability that issues will coniunue to manifest going forward. KTM need to recognise this an act accordingly so that they can learn from the numerous quality issues that are evident. They know the build date of the machine and will therefore have all the data they need from production and the field as to whether certain build dates show a higher degree of warranty claims compared with other build dates/cohorts. Obviously, none of this information ever makes it into the public domain, but, for sure, they will know from the data whether there are dates/build cohorts that suffer increased warranty claims. To KTM the machine is fully repairable system and so their logic not to replace thr system is obviously based upon the fact that component parts can be replaced to restore the system back to a 'bad as old' working state. Now the question is, from a reliability perspective, have the issues/failures that surfaced thus far likley to lead to or contribute to early/further failures down the line due to increased stress on other system/component parts. I doubt it, from the types of failures manifesting. But the warranty claim trend is not a good one for sure...

And the "warped rotor" is not an reall issue!
I explain, it's necessary to push back the pistons back in the calipers
It's the same on all discs braking systems
My superduke make the same noise if i go to complete stop with the front brake, but if i release the pressure before complete stop, no noise at all....

    • @sergeantsodom6969
      @sergeantsodom6969  Год назад

@Charly Thouvenot Absolute nonesense, Warped discs are absolutely an issue.
Pushing the pistons back in will do fuck all to solve warped discs. Warped discs cause excessive strain on the calliper mounts/bolts, leading to more heat through the callipers, and thus excessive wear and deterioration of components, brake pads and brake fluid.

I really want one of these. You are definitely having a tough time of it. Seems most MTC issues are down to the exhaust valve - I'd get an eliminator fitted and wave goodbye to that nightmare... Leave the dealer to resolve the warped disc, leaking rear brake and coolant leak - make sure you ask them to pressure test the system too to see if anything is getting into the oil...

Sorry to say mate but having watched all the issues and problems you have with this bike it's looking like you purchased a lemon 🍋, what a pile of shit mate ,they should compensate you big time for a product that isn't fit for purpose, it's a terrible advertisement for their bikes. Hope you get it successful sorted mate 👍

People pay a fortune for these bikes it’s not on, when you look at reviews so you know what the bikes are all about the people doing the reviews should be honest and tell people the good the bad and the ugly instead of kissing the manufacturers arse, they get to ride for free, the buyer as to pay a fortune!!

Thing is if you're a reviewer that gets a loaner for free, you'll probably have it a year at most and you'll be riding other bikes as well.
The more common couple of days/weeks with a demo isn't going to be enough for anything other than a sample of the bikes performance and features, it's not a long term test of reliability and build quality.
Only a few years of ownership will give you a more accurate picture.
One thing I will say about bikes in general is I'm disappointed that the overall levels of reliability fall below that of cars.
Yes I know you can't expect a high compression, high revving, performance engine to last as long as a family car engine, but there shouldn't be all of the other faults that show up on bikes all too often.

The white stuff at the top of the oil window, looks like emulsion, caused by water and oil mix. I'm no expert but previous experience tells me that's what it looks like. You used to see on older cars that didn't run much .

Condensation mate it will go when the engine is hot

    • @kwak1k
      @kwak1k Год назад

@@richiektm It won't go away it'll dilute and emulsify the oil.
Could be a head gasket, or starting the bike and not running it to full working temperature when it's parked up for a long period, like some people do thinking it's good for their bike.
