I know that sponsorships are a nice income stream for you and I don't fault you for having them and working with partners. Especially since they are all things you actually use and trust. However, I must say it was very nice just to have you focus on the subject matter of this video from start to finish with no diversion. So nice.
@@natalieeubank4533 The person already addressed that in the first 3/4 of their comment, but you had to respond to the very last statement? Come on. Income isn't just made on the partnerships, and guess what? The comment saying it was a nice break for a video to not have a partnership contributes to the other part of the income of having a channel.
You are spot on I have been taking breaks on food shopping just picking up sales and using what I have at least for now I am well stock good to know I am not alone😊
You can use arborio rice for things other than risotto. It would be excellent in rice pudding, grind it up it cream of rice hot cereal, add to soups and stews, especially if you want to thicken it. It’s rice so it’s versatile.
Avocado in an egg salad situation is delicious!! I started using ripe avocado as a sub for some of the mayo in my egg salad ages ago and it's always so delicious- I like to mash it up with the egg yolks and some mayo and pickle juice, then mix in the chopped egg whites and some salt and pepper. The pickle juice keeps the avocado from oxidizing!
I make my own yogurt in the instant pot. Started a year ago with a small individual container of fage as a starter and a gallon of organic milk. All I do is just keep a little from the previous batch to “seed” the new batch. MUCH cheaper than buying individual containers at the store. It lasts a week.
@ Yes. I use a tea cloth and a strainer to strain it afterwards so it’s more of a Greek yogurt type consistency. Yields about 1.25 qt., depending on how much liquid you squeeze out.
Timely vid, Christine! Just inventoried my 2 freezers this morning. Found about 12 things I'd completely forgotten about plus things I thought we still had were gone. I now have the content on a spreadsheet what I can use for my meal planning and shopping list prep. Now to do the same to my pantry. I will get organised and use stuff up!!
Christine, Soooo ... just watching a mini-marathon of your videos {I'm a fairly new subscriber} ... watching this video made me realize that I want/need to make a pot of beans using leftover Christmas ham!! It is a cold, dreary, rainy day & a pot of ham &15 bean soup & cornbread sounds really good!! I have everything I need in my pantry and freezer. Happy New Year to you & your family!!
Arborio rice works fine used as rice if needed. Do it like you would do a Rice A Roni one pan thingy. Sauté the rice, then It expands fine when you add the water and simmer covered for half hour or so. I would make a hamburger tomato mushrooms green pepper goulash-ie kind of thing and use the rice instead of macaroni sometimes. I have done the pure Arborio rice thing as intended, once, only.
Jewel (Albertsons owned) has been putting boxes of cereal on sale for $1.29-1.99 the last few weeks. Have I bought 28 boxes of cereal? Yes I have 😂. Those boxes are almost $9 when not on sale. Most of the boxes have been Cheerios, Corn Chex, and Rice Chex for me to make spicy gluten free chex mix for my husband and daughter. I'm easily going through a box of each a week just for the chex mix alone. When the prices are like that on non-perishable stuff we use a ton of, of course I'm going to keep buying when the sales and coupons are awesome.
I am so NOT a Hocus Pocus fan but it's my 20 year old daughter's favorite movie. She has literally memorized the ENTITE film. She recites it as she watches. Crazy to me. 😮
This made me wonder - I’ve never seen you make homemade Greek yogurt in the 5 or so years I’ve been following your channel! I recently started making it in the crockpot or instant pot and it’s like half price and you can choose your fat content according to preference! It’s soooo tasty, not tangy like the one from the store! There’s some budget delicious protein for ya!
Yes! I always buy extra milk when it's on sale or marked down to make Greek yogurt! Even if milk is full price, the homemade Greek yogurt is still half price from store bought! I keep yogurt ice cubes in my freezer so I always have a yogurt start ready to go.
Same girl. I don’t watch movies if I’ve read the book. I might cave for the new Dune movie. Funny story, husband and I both went grocery shopping. Not together, different days, same list. Good thing it’s soup season!!!
I have been using the Ibotta coupon for Knudsen’s cottage cheese and waiting until the cottage cheese is on sale at Safeway and then applying the coupon getting the sale price and the I bought a cash back. Thanks, Christine.
Hey Christina!!! Just watched your video on crockpot meals from last month. Love your videos!! So real and doable recipes. Also like the movie clips you add. crack me up!! 🤣 The batman took me back to childhood
I've been playing Tetris with my pantry and freezer for months now. Time to make space for a couple of turkeys! 🦃 Found them for only $.47/lb and at that price, might as well have one cut into quarters and Tetris it in the freezer. Cooking for 2 (or 3) here, but my daughter's house is about to get a surprise turkey drop-off too. 😂
I LOVE eating fresh sliced tomato with fresh mozz, salt, and pepper. Sometimes I also add a sprinkle of Italian seasoning and a drizzle of avocado oil ❤️.
Beef stew, tonight. I had lots of veggies needing to be used and I took a can of beef from the emergency pantry. Warm, filling and I had everything to make it.
Arborio rice makes really creamy rice pudding! And it's super easy if you use the slow cooker. So if you're looking for a non-risotto way to use up that rice, that's my recommendation.
Omg! Love your hair😊. I actually eat avocado toast with hardboiled eggs and I eat my leftover caprese salad with toast of course for breakfast!😂 I mashed up my avocado and spread ir on toast ot baguette bread. Then I cut a hardboiled egg in slices and place it on top of avocado with salt and pepper. Another idea is take some baguette bread slice through horizontally. About 6 to 8 inches in length. Toast it. Then drizzle olive oil over the bread, place some prosciutto on top of bread and put sliced tomatoes over the top and salt it. I learned this last one from when I lived in Spain. They call it a "watanga". Doesn't sound spanish I know, but was a terrific breakfast with some Cafe con Leche. I love this channel.😊
It’s 11/17/24 and I live in a major city ( LA). I did a price comparison of a single 15oz can of store brand generic black beans (not on sale). The results surprised me! As I was expecting Walmart to be the lowest. Walmart 94c, Ralphs 99c, Vons 99c, Sprouts 99c, Trader Joes 89c. I haven’t shopped at TJ in years, it’s time to revisit. ❤
I love salad. For breakfast, I had a spinach salad. I got a huge tub of spinach for 99 cents. It will make lots of salads. I also got cherry tomatoes for 99 cents, croutons bogo, shredded cheese bogo, salad dressing for $1.47. Such a great deal. Lunch will be ham and green beans. Ham was free from my daughter. She gets the leftovers at work. I sliced and cubed a large ham for the freezer this morning. Green beans are great value. Around $1.50 for the large can. I will have multiple meals for less than 50 cent a meal.
This is a great tip. I inventory a lot in my pantry arsenal. The green beans are phenomenal! I also have my frozen meat on rotation. I also buy block cheese and keep them fresh by vacuum sealing the leftover cheese
just cooked arborio like regular rice (add little more water) and have it with chilli :D it will be stickier, right, but you will utilize it ;) little backstory: we like our tomato soup with rice in it... once my husband put arborio in it instead regular rice.... we had tomato rice for dinner :P still yummy :D
You and I are similar, reality check. I did this a couple months ago. I am still working on my plan. I looked in my freezers and figured I had 1 year of food to cook with added fresh options. I think you could also last 1 year with no frozen meat stocking up when cheap. If I were him, I had a ground beef, I would buy two. If I ran out of chicken legs I bought two on sale, of course. I am so happy to have an empty freezer. I think I had over stocked up on the deals. Especially now since two of my children are gone, to live their lives.
I'm in the 4th Mortal Instruments book. The movie was ok, but if you've read the books, it's sorely lacking. The tv series Shadow hunters was excellent! I was so sad when it ended.
I accidentally made risotto the other day and it was so good! So now its on my regular list. I recommend just using salt and LOTs of pepper. And a little bit of garlic powder. (Im usually a lot of garlic powder. But the heavy pepper makes it AMAZING).
Yes I read them and loved them. I agree completely with you. I absolutely think a remake of the movie that follows the book more closely would be a great idea.
Great video and exactly the way im trying to grocery shop and make meals. Also YES on the book series. I have the first 3 books. I think theres more at this point arent there? Read them years ago. I enjoyed the movie for what it was. Not too crazy about shadow hunters.
One year, I won't say how long ago, there were no movies where I hadn't read the book first. Then I found one! I was so excited! About 5 minutes into the movie, I realized that I had read the book... The movie had a different title than the book... My family won't go to the movies with me because I spoil the movie, having read the book before the movie is made... The movies are almost never as good as the book.
I've read all of the Shadowhunter books (several times) and totally agree that they did a horrible job with the movie and tv show. The books are awesome!!
Just love you and your channel! I shop and cook the same way that you do...kind of an old fashioned, live in the country attitude. ;) Bring on the sourdough, friend! 😂
You always crack me up in some way especially with the little added clips.. but this one 😂😂 this one topped them all with the witches 😂😂😂😂😂😂 my gosh I almost passed out couldn't breathe 😂😂
Doing a Lowvember this month. I've been keeping my weekly spending to less than half of what I normally spend. In the process, I'm using up what we have in our pantry and freezers. I'm actually trying to clean out my freezers and pantry. What I'm learNing about myself and our household is that, while we love tilapia, salmon, and shrimp, we are not fans of cod, as well as pork loin, sirloin steak, and turkey tenderloin. We love ribeyes, lamb chops, pork shoulder, and round roasts. Chicken has never been served as our only protein at dinnertime because my husband hates it.
One of my favorite breakfasts is fried egg, mashed avocado and a slice of cheese on 12 grain or rye toast. I have 2 pieces of toasts and really don't need to eat lunch...it so filling!
Try cottage cheese, chopped tomatoes, bell pepper and cucumber on top and sprinkle with crushed pistachios on top - I like the salt and pepper pistachios.
I need to do what you’re doing I just clean my deep freezers with the help of my granddaughter and now I need to start eating from them believe me we had so much stuff in there on organized by the time we organized it. I have a lot more room, but I don’t need to buy. I don’t. I need to eat from the freezer. 🥘🥘🥘
Hiiii! I have read the series and let me tell you I hate books to movies too, but I enjoyed the TV series and I wish they continued it :(. Great video. Watching you with much joy!
The part with book made me laugh. So long story short those books are amazing. They distroyed our beloved book series so much. The TV series is 1000000% better. After this i have to say i enjoy you even more. A lot of your content i find myself already doing a lot ofvthe sanevthings it feels like i have another kindred soul. Think you are wonderful. Keep it up. Much live from New England.
I love your videos. I wish you'd create a cookbook. You show all these amazingly creative but BASIC meals. . . My mom didn't cook, told me I was too stupid to learn (she wasn't able to teach, so she blamed me), and I'm overwhelmed by it all. At my age. It's aggravating in the extreme. I wish we'd had the internet when I was young. My life would've been so very different. Thank you for your content.
Back in the day when the movie Jaws came out, I was so excited to see it because of the previews I saw, it was pretty good but then I got the book and WOW! What a difference, it made the movie laughable and ridiculous so I prefer the book versions way better they’re so much more entertaining ♥️🙏🏻🇨🇦
I got the first series from my friend a year or so ago. I have a hard time reading at home, but LOVE reading on the bus. Started a new job which is about 40 minutes by bus away so I started reading City of bones in September. Now I'm done with all of the Mortal Instruments, the Eldest Curse, and have a couple of chapters left of the Infernal Devices. Due to some kind of delivery mishap my favourite bookstore doesn't have part 2 of the Dark Artifices (the next series in some of the recommended reading order) so I'll have to get it somewhere else but to answer your question - YES I've read them and YES I love them. Tried to watch the Netflix series but gave up after three episodes.
I love the Mortal Instruments books! The movie and tv show fell short. Also you should check out Infernal Devices trilogy by same author. It is kind of like a prequel to the Mortal Instruments and an absolute favorite of mine. This is a whole book world you have fell into. Lol
My sister has been flooded 4 times and she found this out too 😔, unfortunately unless you're a homeowner there's not alot of recourse to recoup lost groceries. Or if you're and ebt recipient they'll help with lost food due to natural disasters but that doesn't help everyone. I hope you're able to find good deals and many blessings
I hate that for you! We ran generator to keep our freezers running. I have been using them up almost down to nothing occasionally just to make sure I don’t let things get too old or too much inventory.
Same. We lost power for 6 days so deep freezer and fridge freezer combo all ruined. It has been so hard stocking them back up for our family of 6. We live paycheck to paycheck and buy weekly groceries and it's been so hard.
That was a great price for eggs compare to what I paid at Walmart. I went shopping at Walmart and looked at my receipt I paid 10.17 for 36 count egg price has went in just a couple weeks. Also went to krogers found meat marked down and got alot of stuff on there weekly sale.

Well they need an income also they can’t do everything for free and her family needs food as well

Please -please- please!!! Make a high protein (lower calorie) eating plan video ❤️❤️❤️
I 2nd that request please🎉🎉
I third it
Yes please!
Yes!!
Yes!! I need that, I'm old! 😆
Can I just say your hair is super cute. I love you and your enthusiasm. Always a great day when a frugal fit mom video pops up
When our pantry/freezer is overly stocked...we play kitchen "survival" week...and don't go to the store. No waste!!
I do that when my freezer gets to full to put anything in it.
That exactly how I have always shopped...only buy what is on sale and stock up then it is an amazing price.
I love avocado and feta with lime juice and crushed red pepper flakes on toast. Unbeatable.
I do the same but with a drizzle of honey!! 🤤
You are spot on I have been taking breaks on food shopping just picking up sales and using what I have at least for now I am well stock good to know I am not alone😊

I've never met someone that didn't like it
I have never seen it

I mix ratio with peanut butter and freeze it then drizzle a little chocolate on it. Best Snickers ice cream dupe I’ve ever tried.

Throw some cottage cheese in your egg and avocado! Extra protein and so yummy 😋
Impressive Christine good work I love you channel!

Use tomato, avocado, salt and pepper and use a little bit of Italian dressing. Delicious 🤤
I went through my freezer to verify my inventory and wrote down on a separate sheet of paper of meats I need to use up, before they get much older.

Walmart 94c, Ralphs 99c, Vons 99c, Sprouts 99c, Trader Joes 89c.
I haven’t shopped at TJ in years, it’s time to revisit. ❤

This is what I do October November and December , eat out of the freezer and pantry and use money for Christmas
This is a great tip. I inventory a lot in my pantry arsenal. The green beans are phenomenal! I also have my frozen meat on rotation. I also buy block cheese and keep them fresh by vacuum sealing the leftover cheese
Yes read and own almost the whole series! Loved it! But yeah the movie and the tv show aren't even close to the books!
just cooked arborio like regular rice (add little more water) and have it with chilli :D it will be stickier, right, but you will utilize it ;)
little backstory: we like our tomato soup with rice in it... once my husband put arborio in it instead regular rice.... we had tomato rice for dinner :P still yummy :D

I so agree with the tomato/Moz w/ salt and pepper.... Love it!!!
Love the new hair tone
Great books. Read the books years ago when my kids were teenagers.
Just added the books to my Goodreads and my Libby requests! Thanks for the recommendation!
Your prices are phenomenal! Love that for you!! I really do. Thank you for the great ideas! 🎉
Girl! Look at your super cute hair! It looks great on you! ❤️
EGGOCADO TOAST 🥚🥑🍞 THAT'S WHAT YOU'RE TRYING TO SAY!

Love your videos friend! I know how you feel about being in your forties! I’m turning forty one in two weeks and notice I crave more protein food ❤

All food is real food.
Yes toast yummy!

You always crack me up in some way especially with the little added clips.. but this one 😂😂 this one topped them all with the witches 😂😂😂😂😂😂 my gosh I almost passed out couldn't breathe 😂😂
OMG I love that book series!! ❤❤ And you're right....can't watch the movies if I've read it. It's just never as good
Thanks for the soup ideas, I love me some chile and corn bread with a side salad!

I was dying at the Hocus Pocus hag clip. I love your videos
Thats how i cook too! I buy whats on sale and make dinnersfrom that. It helps me stay creative. :)
Love a Costco egg run. You did good. Thanks Christine. Have a great week.
No I haven't read Mortal Instruments.
You're totally right about the protein. My dietician recommends the Ratio yogurt. Also, protein shakes.

If you didn't like the movie for the book the immortal instruments try the tv show based on them Shadowhunters
It’s 85 degrees here in East Central Florida.
We have only one week of cold here in Memphis TN area. It's crazy but I hate winter so I don't even care. We will get hit in January I'm sure!
OMgosh I love you! The Hocus Pocus clip 😂👌🏻 love the ratio yogurts!!

You can do this.
I use avocado instead of mayo in ck salad and put some kind of fruit and dill in it!! So delicious!!
It snowed yesterday! Here in Vicksburg, MS, it’s still in the 80s. I dream of snow, knowing it may never come.
Thank you! It will be greatly appreciated. 🤗🤗
The avocado egg toast is great with Everything Bagel seasoning too.
The Ratio protein yogurt is legit 👌
Agreed! It's so awesome
That is my favorite author and I named my son Sebastian after this book series.❤
I love the Mortal Instruments books! The movie and tv show fell short. Also you should check out Infernal Devices trilogy by same author. It is kind of like a prequel to the Mortal Instruments and an absolute favorite of mine. This is a whole book world you have fell into. Lol
I lost all my stocked up frozen meats etc when the hurricane hit and lost power which FEMA will NOT cover . Back to square 1 .
Ugh I'm so sorry! Thats hard
You likely have food spoilage coverage under your Homeowner’s or Renter’s Insurance policy.
Risotto in the instant pot is life changing - just saying!!
