    This story ended EXACTLY as it should have. You saved her life, and she returned to the wild, where she belongs. You did well, and I think both your lives are now better because of what you did. Much respect!

      Agreed, the adopt, raise, rehab, and let go route in my opinion is the best route for both parties. You get to experience their whole life, their personality, and their everything. But one day they'll have to leave, keeping a wild animal as a pet is unnatural. As well as domesticating them. I believe its better for them to live the life they deserve despite how dangerous or risky it is. Its simply nature.

      I don't think people understand and in fact I know they don't. In the wild the deer isn't going to live to be "old". It just happens to eat plants so it is easier to survive but it will be hunted by man and animal and there are also cars. The deer would live 3x-4x longer at least in domestication. There is absolutely no comparison. People just have no experience and no idea, so they just say something dumb like animals should be in the wild etc.. but at the same time wouldn't send their dog to live out in the woods. People are generally clueless about everything in the world from what I have seen, especially nature.

    A beautiful but sad story because of the predators and dangers out there. Fairy thought she had been rejected the day he told her to go with the other deer. Animals are extremely sensitive and very intelligent. I hope she comes back safely one day soon, and that he keeps her, because eventually the mother deer will reject the other little ones and they will all have to go their own way. Deer exist in herds in certain environments but in other wooded locations, they are solitary.

    This was incredible. This is exactly how nursing an animal back to health should be treated!! He was the parent she needed until she finally found a real deer family of her own, and then slowly, they were acclimated to the idea of being with them completely, until circumstances met and they parted ways. That was such a beautiful story, and while I feel his pain of losing her, it was for the best. All cases like this should be dealt with in the same way.

    I have a deer family that’s been visiting me every winter for the last several years. I always have the window open in the room where I’m at all day because my place overheats year-round & I heard really weird noises one day. It scared me because I live in a place backed up to the forest & I thought it was a human. I finally looked outside & saw the deer. They began coming up daily & I knew it was the same family because of the big buck who was always with the girls. He finally quit coming last year & I know sadly that he either was hunted, hit or passed away from old age (he was getting up there in years). The cycle of life continues & there’s a new buck with the girls who finally came by again.
    I’ve never fed them or touched them because it’s dangerous in my area to encourage them to trust humans, but I definitely hold conversations with them through my window & they fully participate, making their weird little noises. It’s so calming & wonderful. 🦌

      Bucks don't stay with does after they're bred. They'll continue on to the next one that's in season until they either breed her or are run off by a bigger more dominant buck.

    • @denalinde
      @denalinde Месяц назад +1

      @@PorchHonkey I know they don’t. That’s why this little group caught my eye I gave them my full attention after the 2nd year. I even had my dad double check what I saw because he was a career wildlife officer. Definitely the only buck I’ve ever known to be like that.

    • @PorchHonkey
      @PorchHonkey Месяц назад

      @@denalinde Exactly what time of year have you observed this?It wasn't an antlered doe was it? Although super rare, it does occur. Your dad most likely would've picked up on that if it were. But there are exceptions to every rule. And this may be yet another example of that fact. Pretty neat! Maybe it was a modern day progressive type of buck 🤡? What's even more mind blowing for me,(and believe me, it don't take much) though. Is that there is a 2nd buck from that same proximity. That displays the same fairly unusual behavior. Possibly this buck identifies as a doe or even a fawn.(just kidding) And it has actually picked up where the first buck left off!? There has to be some logical cause or reason for this. Just when ya think you've got it all figured out!?
      P.S. please don't think I'm a troll or trying to be a wise guy. I'm seriously perplexed by your story.

    • @denalinde
      @denalinde 18 дней назад

      @@PorchHonkey Oh, it was definitely a buck. I had my dad double check (50+ year pro/amateur nature photographer & career state wildlife/land management officer, & after he retired he reported directly to our governor for wildlife special projects for a bit).
      My dad took an interest from the start when I told him white tail & mule deer were hanging out together. Supposedly that’s “impossible” but I’d say “rare” based on my experience. I don’t know why he thought I didn’t know the difference between mulies & white tail because they’re so distinctly different, but he had to see it for himself. Then I saw the buck with the boys because I was paying more attention than usual.
      Now there’s a chance one of them was a female for sure but over the years I don’t think there’d be 3 or 4 such females in that small herd. My direct area is insulated from hunters & it’s winter when I especially notice that crew coming to my actual window & visiting, but there are tons of deer year round within 2 miles of me.
      My dad lived about 10 miles away, less as the crow flies, & he also had deer year round, but somehow “my” herd was a bunch of weirdos. It’s thinned down now to only white tail & I noticed the new buck in charge doesn’t allow others to hang out, so maybe the old guy was just strange & it also confirms he was a boy since everything stopped the year he died.
      I’m happy he lived to be pretty old, & I’m glad no trophy hunters knew about him because he was gorgeous. My area tends to attract people who actually hunt to eat because the land owners are strict about who they allow on their property.
      My dad probably had the same thought as you initially, enough that he was actually interested in sitting in my driveway for hours to see it for himself. He was always like that with any wildlife. He’d spend hours on his belly waiting for a special mountain goat to come by so he could get a perfect photo & I know he was checking on all the different wildlife’s health in most of the Black Hills until he went into assisted living in 2020.
      Because I grew up around him it’s not strange for me to meet someone online who takes a special interest & knows a lot. That’s “normal” so you’re cool. 🙂
