Hey Jen! Been busy in baby-land these past months, but glad to finally get around to making a new tutorial! Love this song too!
I like how you approach this song and working through the vocal technique! Really good stuff!
Glad you enjoyed it!
How great the chasm that lay between us
How high the mountain I could not climb
In desperation, I turned to heaven
And spoke your name into the night
Then through the darkness
Your loving kindness
Tore through the shadows of my soul
The work is finished, the end is written
Jesus Christ, my living hope
Who could imagine so great a mercy?
What heart could fathom such boundless grace?
The God of ages stepped down from glory
To wear my sin and bear my shame
The cross has spoken, I am forgiven
The king of kings calls me His own
Beautiful savior, I'm yours forever
Jesus Christ, my living hope
Hallelujah, praise the one who set me free
Hallelujah, death has lost its grip on me
You have broken every chain
There's salvation in your name
Jesus Christ, my living hope
Hallelujah, praise the one who set me free
Hallelujah, death has lost its grip on me
You have broken every chain
There's salvation in your name
Jesus Christ, my living hope
Then came the morning that sealed the promise
Your buried body began to breathe
Out of the silence, the roaring lion
Declared the grave has no claim on me
Then came the morning that sealed the promise
Your buried body began to breathe
Out of the silence, the roaring lion
Declared the grave has no claim on me
Jesus, yours is the victory, whoa!
Hallelujah, praise the one who set me free
Hallelujah, death has lost its grip on me
You have broken every chain
There's salvation in your name
Jesus Christ, my living hope
Hallelujah, praise the one who set me free
Hallelujah, death has lost its grip on me
You have broken every chain
There's salvation in your name
Jesus Christ, my living hope
Jesus Christ, my living hope
Oh God, you are my living hope

Hello I'm new! Your the best vocalist I've ever listen in RUclips..
I really love this song 'living hope'
Wow thanks so much!
I will sing this song this coming Sunday that's why I will take this opportunity to listen and hopefully can learned a ticnique from ur tutorial.God bless you.coz he used u as an instruments here .
Awesome!
Girl I'm gonna be honest I was laughing trying this out but I can't wait to really test your method when I'm in the car. It sounds really effective
Haha I hear ya! It really does work but I know it seems crazy!!
Me too.😂
Thank You ! I’m a very classically trained singer. I need to sound more contemporary . I need this instruction to be able to sing on my current worship team. I get criticized for singing too high. So I appreciate your honesty and thoughtful attitude.
You're welcome! I encourage you to develop your chest voice so you can sing lower, and in a contemporary mix!
I took your advice. Thanks 🙏 I actually have a great developed chest voice since I’ve studied yrs. I just didn’t think to use it. Your very good. Sometimes the obvious is right in front of us. And it takes someone to point it out. Your teaching methods are wonderful for visual learners too ! Kudos. God is using you ! PTL 💙🙏🎶🎤
@@alicesings1971 awesome! Glad to help!
I’m going to be performing this soon and so this is going to be really helpful.
Awesome! Glad to hear it!
Thankyou so much for your videos..its been a great help for me to learn harmony during quarantine days because of covid19. God bless u
You're very welcome!
you have an amazing voice!
Thanks!
Thank you!!!!!
You're welcome!
I really do like the shaping of the song. My concern is that most congregations are not musicians and may be distracted by the lack of consistency. Just my observations at church. Thank you for the food for thought! Blessings to you.
I think perhaps people are used to this kind of shaping, since it's in the recorded tracks we listen to-but definitely, we always want to be thinking about what will and won't be a distraction! :)
Thank you God bless you more🙏🙏🙏
Thanks!
2021 so glad i found this! :)
Glad you enjoyed it!
Hi God bless you, I would like if you can make a video of how to sing Angus Dei. Thanks blessings 🙏🏻
Hey Caleb! Perhaps in the future!
I love the tips. Gonna work on this tonight. Looking for a good instrumental on YT to sing with. I use 2 cell phones.
Glad you enjoyed the video!
Is it weird that I feel more comfortable in the Eflat than the A?
Not weird! Everyone has a different range, so you should sing where you're most comfortable! :)
Thank you so much 😘
You're welcome!
Nah, this was absolutely not Meh. Awesomeness.. Thanks SO much.
Lol!
8:59 What I do when the old lady at church tells me the worship too loud :)
It's hard to please everyone! Some think it's too quiet, others think it's too loud! It's best to have a clear vision as church leadership of what your sound levels will be, and why-and that will be the answer to anyone asking. :)
Us older folks often don't hear so well, particularly the higher registers. If the sound system is distorting or muddying the sound, that increases the difficulty. A clean clear sound can be quite loud and people won't mind because it's easier to listen to. Typically discjockey bass heavy mix doesn't work well for congregational settings; keep it clean, minimise effects, avoid feedback, and the complaining will stop.
Great videos! Thanks so much for the help with these songs. Would you possibly do God Only Knows? I feel like I get too head voice on that one. Any tips?
Hey! Perhaps in the future! The best thing you can do is develop your mix voice from the ground up (with strategic mix voice exercises/workouts) so that you'll be able to apply it in any song you sing!
So I struggle with getting emotional with this one .... how do you combat tears while singing? Is that a weird question? Cause when I’m singing these words it hits me hard in my heart and I get choked up with it. Is there a way to still have the emotional element and not just bawl? Lol 😂
I usually Jab my finger nails into my hand to stop the tears lol and I don’t think that’s healthy
Not a strange question! If it’s in a worship leading context, I think it comes down to understanding what our responsibility is as worship leaders-to lead people in confidence, strength, and with as little distraction as possible. Singing while crying is definitely very difficult and distracting, so ask the Holy Spirit to help you put aside the “excess” emotion and lead confidently!
Love this! Our team will be singing in E, is that what key shes singing in?
Hey! The male key I use in this tutorial is Eb, the female key is A.
Oh my goodness!!! Thank you so much for responding to me!!❤ This is so helpful! Im new to our team and just figuring things out. I love your voice and feel like you are obe of the few artists that I can sing along comfortably with.
Hello! I have not yet watched enough of you to know if you mention this anywhere, but I notice something else with this "style" of singing (the more contemporary sound) that includes changed the sound of the letter S from sss to almost "sh" (Sean Connery style!) , as well as adding a T sound to the found of S words like "to" (sounds like tsoo") I feel that is a common thing with this style...yes? (or yesh?)
I think perhaps there are some singers who sing Connery-style S’s (haha!), but I wouldn’t say that’s a common thing for this style. But a word like “to” making it softer with the S sound-yes!
Andrea I definitively notice this affectation too!! She does it on “shilence” in v3.
Hi there
Plz can you teach kindly
(Thether)by phil wickham
How to sing properly...
Hey! Perhaps in the future if I get enough requests for that one!
The Worship Vocalist
Ok thanks I will be waiting for that.
I think you quickly mentioned it, but what key does Bethel Beth Woherle do this song in?
Key of A!
Do you have one for Run to the Father
I don't, but perhaps in the future! Great song!
What is your vocal range?
Hey Emma - approx. 3 octaves.
@@worshipvocalist that's cool! I believe my lowest is a C#3 and the highest I've ever sang was a C6 but that was once.
meh~~ you are great
Thanks!
I've been singing to myself for about 30 years, but very few have heard me. I post random songs (all genres) on my social media and get good reactions. My gf has suggested for me to use my blessing to worship and praise. I'm self taught and never taken a vocal lesson nor do vocal exercises other than what I've learned on YT the past few years. I'm open for lessons now as is like to take this passion of singing amongst other things to optimal level. Personally, I will never profit a penny for worshipping Christ, so I want to share myself to as many as possible in Christ's glory. That's it...simple servitude. #servantleadership
For sure! All for His glory!
Beautiful; great for a soloist performance; not so useful for leading congregational singing. I want to lead them in their singing, (to me THEY are the singers of import) and they would have a hard time following this. Not a criticism, just sharing another view. Love to you! Appreciate the good work!
I appreciate your comment, and I absolutely agree that our primary responsibility is to serve people and lead our congregations well - however, I don't think a blanket statement of "they would have a hard time following this" is fair. When these techniques are done well, and in the right context, it is not difficult for a congregation to follow a leader who is singing on pitch, with good rhythm, AND incorporating artistic, stylistic elements into their singing.
The Worship Vocalist I should have clarified when I said “they” I had in mind my very multi-generational congregation. My goal is their participation so we sing as straightforward and easy-to-follow as possible. Living Hope is such a great song. Thank you Phil. It’s theologically rich, evokes emotion and is very singable for the average person.
So are you telling me that a whiny, nasally voice is considered a contemporary worship style?
All my life I have been brought up to not sing that way and I find it a harsh sound... Mmm food for thought.
Yes, typically classical vocal training teaches against having nasality, but these days it is a very contemporary sound!
In christ alone
MEH hahha Thank you for the Really practical tips!
You’re welcome!

How not to butcher an amazing song. Whoop whoop!
Haha!
Christians should be narrow minded and worship leaders should have narrow mouths whilst singing this song 😂😂
😂
The me was flat
Hey! I don't profess to sing perfectly-my goal is just to help vocalists reach new levels in their singing!
@@worshipvocalist i know that. I should of placed another comment because I use your videos alot. Sorry.
@@mirjamveninga1433 no worries! :)
