This is the route I settled on as well. Have built tons of systems with SBC's over the years, but it's hard to beat a used 1L PC like these with Batocera. I bought mine for $99 off Amazon, dropped in a 2TB SSD, and can emulate pretty much anything I care about. Even supports Dolphin Bar and Sinden light guns out of the box for Wii controllers and light gun games. The system pulls about 20W at idle and 30W when gaming, which is pretty efficient for the performance IMHO.

The best CPU option for these emulation are i5 7th gen and above, and if you have the option of getting either an i7 6th gen vs i5 7th gen, go with the i5 7th gen. Most if not all emulators are still working on only 4 threads or less, and are optimimized mostly on single thread performance, so more thread doesn't mean more performance. The higher the boost clock on a single thread the more performance you get, but more importantly, is the igpu/apu video card, the 7th gen cpus have a generational upgrade in igpu, from the u530 to the u630. u630 is in 7th, 8th, and 9th gen, so you are getting a be boost in graphics performance when you go for 7th gen and above. This is really what is important when you are looking at these mini devices and are looking to do emulation. Unless if you get a Ryzen 5 2xxx, these have better APU than Intel all together.

Does it have a wireless M.2 a/e key slot? If it does, you can add an external GPU with an adapter. Youd have to then use a USB wifi module. EDIT...it already has NVMe compatible M.2...so you most def can run an external GPU.

I've been picking up these Tiny/Mini/Micro systems for a while now. Couple one of these with a 4 bay USB hard drive enclosure, and you have a cheap NAS. They make great dedicated boxes; now that 8th gen Intel units are showing up on the used market, Windows 11 via RDP works great for those Windows-only programs. Yes, I could use a virtual machine (done that), but it's nice to have a dedicated CPU handling heavy duty stuff like transcoding and recompressing, then have it shut itself off when done to save power. (Wake-on-LAN is great.)

The problem with used products like this is that prices might differ greatly (especially youtubers seem to get them a lot cheaper than their followers ;) ) So it's less fun comparing them to each other, because the option for a fair price might not be available for many people. Do you know that sometimes that their little intel N100 boxes (DDR5 versions seems to handle even PS2 2x upscale and Xbox classic emulation!) that are cheaper than the windows 11 pro license installed on them? I think that one might more sense because it has hardware Av1 decoding so you can play 4k60 RUclips on it. With al the cheap alternatives new and second hand the reign of the Raspberry Pi seems to be definitely over anyway.

I've gotten several running on mine. Most games it's as simple as renaming the game folder with a .pc extension (ex: Stardew Valley.pc) and creating an autorun.cmd file (using Notepad - or the text editor in Batocera file browser) in the game folder, which includes a line of text pointing to the game's main exe. Games that require additional runtimes (DirectX, Visual C, etc) can be a little tricky though. You have to download and install the runtimes via linux terminal (which is basically command prompt or powershell in Windows), run the game to install it and ensure the game is working, then delete or rename the folder where the runtime installers were downloaded so Wine doesn't install them every time you play the game. Seems as though Windows support has gotten better over the past few updates. But that may be due in part to the inclusion of Wine updates.

Important is the CPU. Regarding the cores & speed. And what do you want to play and how. Want to upscale ? or just native. So many factors to take with the final purchase.
Got recently few hp elitedesks 600 G3 for 50€ a pop, everything up to PS2 (still need to check xbox clasic) works flawlesly on them and for price I paid it is great, for higher end systems I realy dont care as I only want it to cover 4:3 aspect ratio consoles, going to 21" crt. All of them came with Intel g4600, 8gb ram, 512gb nvme and 1tb ssd. Companyes are diching them as they are forced to upgrade to pcs that are win 11 compatibile. So highly recomend those over cheap game boxes. Yes game boxes are in some way easier to setup but versatility of mini pc in performance is unmatched for same or less price, even better if you find ones that are based on AMD as those have even better gpus then HD630.

Is there any way to get this prebuilt and plug and play?
At this point .. buy the mini HP pc.
Slap a HDD on this and your done.
Wicked for decades now we’ve been ahead of the game I have my setup and it runs all generations of consoles and all their games I have all from generation 1 to now with the exception of ps5 Xbox x/s emulation my set up is the best I literally have it all physically and emulation wise from 1980-Now
@mjdf122 what kind of setup do you have?
There is nothing better than repurposing old, unloved ex-office PC'S into awesome retro gaming beasts! This is the joy of the hobby imho, not buying crappy, virus infected Chinese rubbish.
Somebody sounds sick
👍👍™️
Looks great. Can it play xbox 360?
No
This one cant. But lenovos 2nd gen Ryzen 5 GE 2400 pro can.
@@returnofmerenguespersempre Eta prime tested it once long time ago and it wasn't good which is to be expected. I searched and I cant find any vid with a 2400G running xbox 360 emulation good enough
I have a HP Elitedesk 800 G1 with 2 sticks of 2gb ram. Do you feel thats good enough for batocera? thanks.
Important is the CPU.
Regarding the cores & speed.
And what do you want to play and how.
Want to upscale ? or just native.
So many factors to take with the final purchase.
I just use a old galaxy s7 temu bt controller and wired hdmi to an old monitor. Works about as well, just cant keep a catalog.
How much latency you got in arcade machine controller
Is there option with multiplayer, possibly on 2nd monitor? Thanks
Any idea if it will run NFL Blitz on Mame? Enjoy the channel. Thx
Good as a home htpc for geforce now too!
Have you tried out the Super console x 5 pro
It's here not try'd it .. not excited at all 🤣
I'm kinda done with android I want mini pc with batocera stuff. 🤨
@@WickedGamerCollector well I ordered one 3 days ago so it'll be a couple weeks before I get it I was hoping to see your review before then
Got recently few hp elitedesks 600 G3 for 50€ a pop, everything up to PS2 (still need to check xbox clasic) works flawlesly on them and for price I paid it is great, for higher end systems I realy dont care as I only want it to cover 4:3 aspect ratio consoles, going to 21" crt.
You can always upgrade the cpu. I had the same and upgraded the cpu to an i7-6700T. Definitely a performance upgrade but worth it
ATTENTION! Dont bother clicking on the links he gave in the descriptions. I clicked nearly everyone one of them and hardly any of them did anything useful. They only gave a massage saying no longer here or it just opened a page with no items in it
Main problem is with links going dead or product is not for sale in your country.
Your link don't work : "Budget Game Box Solution"
Mainboard is HF but not HP? Thanks!
Odd question. With that VGA output. If i go backwards on resolution like 240p or 480i on a CRT. Will it still run something like a PS3 good? Also does Dreamcast and Saturn run good on it?
I 5 will work but you need a graphics card to play the PS3 games I have a HP pro desk mini with Intel i5 8th gen but I put 16gb of ram inside and I still can't play PS3 but I could play PS2 before when I had only 4 GB of ram
Hi! I have a new current gen Alienware that I only use for old games like Age of Empires. Can I use it as retro console too or should I get a separate device for retro gaming only?
Batocera is actually capable of running some Windows games, new and old. Some games are as simple as renaming the folder with a .pc extension and adding a custom autorun.cmd file with the appropriate line of text pointing to the main exe.
You can always install Bato on a USB drive as well to keep your main PC OS and boot into Bato any time anywhere.
will it take 1tb SD cards and flash drives?
you can go for the NVME ?
what mini pc model do you suggest to look for to have a very smooth up to ps3 xbox switch emulation?
I would get something really powerful.
Video coming over a couple of days.
AMD Ryzen 7xxx series.
More power ... better it is.
Can it run burnout 3 ?
So what are the specs?
Yeah no mention of CPU, or have I missed it?
Goes over it around 9:30
Is that the stock theme in batocera?
Now can u add roms and isos to the system? And also upgrade hard deive ans ram??

These are used systems.
Try local market place maybe ?
@@WickedGamerCollectorAh ok thanks, I did wonder! Makes sense now
i use a acer variton 4640g mainboard intel i5 6600t( has a fullsize PCI socked) with a rx6600 gpu powerd by a old dell 220w powerbrick everything is in a self build lego case......
I have no idea how any of these things work. Is this something i can but just connect to a tv and start playing? If not can someone point me in the right direction? Something that does not require internet
Nice vid! But please dial back your talking speed a little dude.
were can we order from."? not a fan of aliexpress
This is fine for retro emulation. However if you REALLY want some power grab a RYZEN model! They are way better.
Ryzen is the way to go for full emulation power 🦾
Wicked "takinconsideration" Gamer 😜
I take shot everytime you say this.
I have an alcohol problem now 😂
😆
Dude i had my headphones on high volume, when u said in the demonic voice _Lets put it back together, Yes?!?!_..... 😳 🫢
EDIT: forgot to mention i was on the city bus, and it was moderately filled..yea i Yelped/gasped/ ahh heck, i screamed 😅😆
would it do switch?
Naah... we need more juice for that 🦾
Does it have tekken 6 retribution?
Does anyone know how silent hill 2 runs?
Just checked local prices, its $300 at least. I wonder where I can get it for $69.
Ebay auction. There are some elitedesk 800 bidding at less than 100. I think you want a gen 8 i5. These can upgrade to i9 with a new power supply.
Are you sure T6600? That's a laptop? Are you sure it's not a HP ProDesk G6 Mini? Or something like that?
I'm pretty sure it is a ProDesk 600 G2
Can it play ps3 games with no issue?
What about Switch Emulation? Can it even run it Playable?
Nope...
Can you add more games to it
Oh not bad for gamecube
