      I was in Coraki at the time The Socceroos played Japan. It was nearly midnight when we scored and the whole town was screaming and running around in the streets. The best game of football I have watched in my life and I have lived in the UK for 40 years. Will never forget the game against Italy. I was back in the UK and everyone was hoping we will win. We were robbed.

    There's many worthy entries. Re cricket I would have Dennis Lillee's 310th tesgt wicket agains the Windies. Kim Hughes's 100no in the same match which set up a win against the greatest ever cricket team. Steve Waugh's 200 against the Windies in 95 which won the match and the test series and knocked the Windies their perch. Australia qualifying for the football wc in 73 when they were a bunch of state league players in Sydney and Melbourne. The Wallabies winning the world cup in 1990.

    The night after the 2000 Men's 4 x 100 Free, the women's water polo team completed probably the most exciting finish to win gold, when Yvette Higgins threw a long range left hand goal in the final second. It was almost as exciting as the men's relay.
    Also - Cate Campbell's final leg in the women's 4 x 100m Medley relay in Tokyo 2021, was as exciting as both the Sydney wins.

    That was a remarkable collection. Well done! I remembered a lot of those moments but I am far from a sports fanatic so I admit, I didn't even know about some of them.
    Reading some of the comments - the nutjobs aside - I agree there could have been a few more, but at the same time every list like this is limited by the time, resources and interests of the person putting it together.
    Still, I will never forget staying up to watch the 800m swimming final at the1996 Olympics in Atlanta, where Kieren Perkins, who'd been written off by some of the sports media as being way out of form, went on to win against all the odds. In fact he'd been the last person to qualify for the final - and managed to do so by only 0.24 of a second, and he was relegated to swim from lane 8 where it's just that much harder to know what the others are doing - way across the other side of the pool. And so I will never forget watching lane 8 with my heart in my mouth as he took the lead and with what must have been a courageous and superhuman effort on his part not only kept it, he actually increased it. There were all the usual sports commentariat groans that he wouldn't be able to maintain the pace and that the pain would take him down. My friends and I who were watching were all elated as he finally touched the edge of the pool, blitzing the other swimmers and the people who'd written him off. He'd actually been so crook before the event that he had considered not competing but his sheer grit and monumental ability pulled him through.
    There are so many triumphs that so many Australians have felt lifted by . . . Pat Cash at Wimbledon, Cathy Freeman, the Konrad siblings, and many others that could have been in your list. But hey it wasn't ever going to be a definitive 6 hour box set of great Australian sporting moments, and without exception everyone who was on your list was, or is, a great sports person and I reckon this is a really outstanding video, so thanks.

    • @rjpxx
      @rjpxx 10 лет назад +3

      Thanks, I suppose, for your pissy comment but why would you attack me because I thought someone's stuff was really good? And then insist I look at something you like? What a peculiar way you have of recommending stuff. Heap shit on someone else's experiences and then point out what floats your boat. I think you're are more than likely at least a bit peculiar, if not an outright imbecile . . . but hey, I guess neither of us is perfect.

    Pretty good list. Only addition I would have made would be Kieren Perkins 1996 in the 1500m. But that might have pushed the line into too much swimming.

      Rob Whimore and what do you take out? Don't forget RUclips tries to limit these to about 10 minutes...

      I can't remember what was in this video now. But Im not saying there are things that shouldn't be in there. Just that I thought his swim should have been.

    Some interesting inclusions, some ominous moments missing... Shane Warne's hat trick, his first ball in an Ashes test, Cathy Freeman in Sydney? 1989 NSWRL or AFL grand finals?
