Update - the TM T818 is going to be offered as a bundle with the SF1000 wheel, so it does technically come with a wheel now, assuming you want it.

@@TheCarDoc1 More expensive that buying them separately? You're kidding me?
Even though I bought into Simucube last year (that hurt the wallet a bit) I'm still interested in the T818 as I have a ton of TM rims lying around including the aforementioned SF1000, which is not doing anything other than looking cool on the shelf.

    Shorter-"don't buy t818 for drifting"
I had a t300 with both belts bearing mode(by the way I really recommend it I makes big difrence) , with all eco system from thrustmaster, so I got a t818, and first i was blown away how it works, and how good and quick the response is, but by the time I can figure it out how to set it up for drifting(99% time on sim drifting). One of the biggest problem of t818 is it smells like hot electronics after a quick session if it's intense like drifting and it's simple drivers, you just can't get It how u want it to be, with damper about(20-50%) the whell was to sponge, and without or little bit about(0-20%) it was to brutal(performance mode was the best). The biggest problem of this base(t818 for drifters) it's his constant torque, you can make it smoth like it should be with wheelcheck and lut for Assetto, but then the most of the details are gone. So you need to choose a pill. By the way flex on my with sparco wheel was very little. Soo I order moza r9 with cs steering wheel and spr pedals with load cell, I just download the moza pit house, choose drift preset, changed only force for about 3,5-4nm to make sure I'm driving all 3 wheels at exact same force, just open Assetto and drift like I was driving on this wheel all the time, it's just simply works. I linked the corners I never used to link that good. Moza just works and if u want you just can tinker the serting to your liking. Moza quality is like 2 levels above thrustmaster. Making my top 3 for the t300, t818, moza r9:
    sim racing
1.t818 (the best, fastest, and informative ffb)
2.moza r9(i think I can get most of it by the time I learn the pit house settings)
    3.t300(just the belt driven wheel.)
    Drifting:
1.Moza r9 (it just works how it needs to and you can change it to your liking)
2.t300 (with bearings mode or without it's just good but the details are a little bit too late, to slow and soft)
3.t818(in other games it works better it's not as constant force or brutal like in assetto, but for me is the best sim drifting game, so the force is too constant and brutal, and after damper to spongy and slow so if you want to buy t818 for drifting just pick something else).

I have the Logitech G pro and I use it on ps5. I feel so much more immersed and in control with trueforce (GT7, ACC) than I do without it (F122). Genuinely feel disconnected from the car without it after having used it. Hopefully Logitech comes out with a formula wheel soon and f123 adds trueforce support.

Great video, mate! Love your content! I'm somewhat at a cross-road now. I have a Thrustmaster TS-XW wheel with the SF1000 wheel, which I absolutely love, but I'm now contemplating an upgrade to a higher power DD setup. If I go with the T818, I can use my SF1000 wheel with it, but I'm torn between sticking with TM or going to a Moza solution, which also has an awesome ecosystem! The T818 is slightly more powerful than the Moza R9 too, so I'm leaning slightly more towards the T818, but some reviews on the T818 isn't very compelling. Thoughts?!

    • @TheCarDoc1
      @TheCarDoc1  11 месяцев назад +1

I liked my Thrustmaster T818 (only sold to make room for new review gear) - personally if you like using your SF1000, you can’t go wrong there. It’s either that or a MOZA FSR wheel. The moza FSR wheel is more expensive, higher quality, but I preferred the SF1000 because, its replica and looks cooler IMO. If you’re going for the MOZA R9, i’d skip it and go for the R12, because if youre wanting more power now, you’ll want more later, and IMO the R12 is the sweet spot (financial depending ofcourse) The bonus with Moza is they’re clearly dedicated to releasing new innovative gear and their stuff is good. If you didnt already have a TM product I would 100% say Moza. (But equally, you can always try it, and go back to TM if unsatisfied)

    • @mervyoung5397
      @mervyoung5397 11 месяцев назад

@@TheCarDoc1 Great advice! Thanks, mate. You're right, the R12 would be an even better upgrade, especially with that FSR F1 style wheel! The other issue is the T818 looks really bulky in comparison to the Moza wheelbase. I want to be able to put my wheelbase behind my monitor. I don't think I'd be able to do that with the T818 judging by the size of it. The Moza would be perfect as it's not a bulky wheelbase and the length of the steering wheel shaft would allow me to hide the wheelbase behind my center screen. Decisions, decisions, decisions! LOL!

      Logitech G Pro

Moza R9 pips the CSL DD by having a more solid quick release and thus making FFB more reliable!

Love my G Pro man, I’ve driven Fanatec DD1 and I would say it’s close one with the slight edge to Fanatec. But again the eco system fails Logitech, fails us. Remember they never had an eco system for previous beginning wheels, unlike Thrustmaster. And honestly a Year coming up that I’ve had mine and no news about add on wheels, are there really any plans of adding an eco system? I’m not gonna hold my breath anymore. I think it’s one of the best DD wheels out there, I’m enjoying the heck out of it…it is what it is.

I hate to hear that myself. Sometimes I wonder if companies like Logitech do just enough to tap into a market. But with the level of craftsmanship they put into the G Pro you would think they were ready to hit the ground running. There is much more money to be made with high end add-ons. I hope they realize that. And Logitech and somewhat Thrustmaster are the only brands that are carried by big box stores like Bestbuy and many others. Fanatec and Moza don’t have this advantage. Logitech really has a market advantage should they choose to use it.

If I didn't have a good pc and only a console than I would go with the logitech g pro wheel it has a good qr with little to no flex and It's only a matter of time before they release more wheels etc to go with it. The price has already drop on it and will probably go lower. Thrustmaster t818 is the worst option of them all with having very limited user adjustible settings for the base and not having a wheel that is made pacifically for a direct drive wheel base I tried it with a standard t300 rim and it was flex city. Moza is good value and they have alot in there eco system to upgrade to latter on. Simagic I feel has the highest quality products at a bit higher price. But they seem very hard to deal with as many youtubers have had isssues dealing with them and no long will review there products where moza are doing it right getting the stuff out to as many as they can and taking that negative feedback to imporove there products which will equal more sales and it makes people who might be interested in buying any of there products feel like care about what they are making.

If only Logitech would allow for an adapter to mount other steering wheels.... I would even prefer it over a 20nm VRS wheel that's way cheaper per NM.
I trust Logitech to be able to get the best FFB with their very first Direct Drive wheel. But damn, being a nerd for specific niches like Oldtimers and big diameter wheels while also wanting a Formula wheel really makes this no option.
And i think Logitech might have shot themselves in the foot. Not per se that they won't give u an adapter for your wheel rims and more so that they don't feed us with information of new wheel rims arriving and a new shifter maybe.
In that department moza is crushing it. But moza has to crush it, Logitech is already established as a brand and can relax and do things slowly. For now.

@Blip I hear you. But for me the goal was simucube but I couldn't afford it as I had to buy a gaming pc for 3 big ones, 4k 144hz screen, then the aluminum profile cockpit, tocitaa shifter, logitech driving force shifter, logitech pro adapter, logi pro wheels and pedals, handbrake, and sparco seats and ps5...so there was no room for me to push the budget to a simucube. For 1200$ wheels and pedals combo there was literally no better option...simucube with heusinkveldt pedals is something I might invest in a few years but this is the best I could find for a lower cost. So the wait for logitech shifter and formula style wheel isn't such a turn off for me...I don't mind waiting a year or so coz I know whatever they'll release will be top quality. Till then wheel and shifters I have will do perfectly for both pc and console use. I know tm moza and fanatec have the ecosystem in place already but the fanatec high-end dds need a complete refresh...the moza r21 would be a compelling choice but yet to see a vs review with logi pro coz I never use more than 8nm for any game...the quality of the force feedback is what counts. And t818 is great for performance but feels a step down from the logi. Then there's vrs, simagic etc all of whom I think are top notch but don't rate any of the ones near the logi pro budget as being better. So I feel like if we can wait for a few and enjoy what we got then I think we won't be disappointed...p.s. I never play truck games and found this wheel to be pretty good for drifting. I'm totally into the soft nappa-ish leather. And the shifter paddles are to die for...the hall effect clicks are the best I've felt out of all the wheels I tried except simucube

Like for entry level the R5 bundle just takes the cake for $ per feature, the R9 is a decent mid level upgrade from any entry level rig like a Logitech or a thrust matter, however they're lacking in the top range which honestly if you're going for the top range I wouldn't consider moza, Logitech, or thrustmaster. This is what's confusing me about the new thrust master and Logitech rigs and pricing range, considering there's also fanatec DD in the race.
Edit: I think the only reason you'd consider logitech or thrustmaster over moza right now is the console compatibility.

I looked at moza r9 as a comparable
Moza r9 with wheel is $1,000
Logitech ddpro with wheel is $1,300
Main difference is console compatibility and the extra 2 nm of force as well as gaining true force
But the big kicker for me is that I ordered it and it was at my door in 3 days, moza was at least a month wait.
And with post purchase support I can feel assured Logitech will help me out if needed, not saying Moza won’t but the brand just doesn’t carry the same consumer market weight.
The pricing for both kits with the crp pedals for moza was near identical.

@@darrenmarshall1367 yeah for shipping and assurance if ur product arriving Logitech is the better option. And waiting time is not to be ignored.
My issues are the steering wheels. Logitech seems to have a good quick release system but obviously won't sell you the rim end of it for you to mount your own rims on it. Especially for old timers and vintage race cars I like to use the larger diameter rims. Or simply different rims like a formula rim.
This makes it a no buy for me even when technically that 30cm wheel with the paddle shifter should be decent for driving almost anything in sim.

But there's only one shop carrying it here in Norway and they have yet to even get one in stock, been waiting almost 2 months now....and importing isn't really an option as that'd add another $300-$500.
Due to the time it's taken I've started eyeing up the R9 or a secondhand G Pro, but both of them also have their cons. I love Formula racing and would really love an F1 style rim, but G pro only has the one rim it comes with and the Moza rims are so damn expensive. TM rims are cheaper, but that doesn't really matter if the base takes a million years to hit the shelves. Also not as premium as the moza ones, which I suppose is a reason for the price difference.

There really is no replacement for power, over the last few years the trend from manufacturers has been to bring weaker and cheaper DD wheelbases to the market but they really do lack what makes a DD special.
Making DD’s in a fashion to have mainstream appeal means they have started to lose the wow factor, the hardware 5 years ago was premium, high end, high power… now to appeal to the masses they are not doing what we hoped they would do which is making those high end products cheaper they are just making cheaper products with cheaper materials with low power and using the marketing that comes with the name “DD” to sell to people who think they are getting the full DD experience when they really are not.
Take an R9 for example, or better still the R5… people think they have a high end DD experience for real cheap but the reality is it uses cheap ass components (lowest resolution encoder on the market currently for example at 15bit, half the resolution of even fanatec which is low by todays high end standards) hardly any power and sell it as a DD to be lapped up.
Power is sorely underestimated, when you feel a high downforce formula car banking Daytona with 20nm plus it’s a whole different world of immersion you simply can’t get from 5,8,10, even 15nm wheelbases.

I totally agree that the biggest thing holding Logitech back is the lack of any Ecosystem. I can’t believe it’s been about a year now, and there’s really been nothing else that’s been announced. Considering that the PC/PS version could be made Xbox compatible by connecting the wheel from the PC/Xbox kit, they’re missing a Golden opportunity to sell the Xbox wheel separately for those of us who have both consoles. That being said, while I’m sure that the Pro pedals are high quality, I’m not so sure that it’s up there with the offering of the Fanatec CSP v3’s, or maybe even the Moza CRP’s.
Honestly, I’m holding the line for a bit to see what Moza does for console compatibility, now that Xbox is on the table - if they end up announcing a good PS compatible base (hoping it’s based on the R12),I may go that route, otherwise, I may settle on the Fanatec DD Pro… Sorry Logitech, I’m a fan, but you had a year to build up that Ecosystem, especially after many critics brought it up during the review flurry last year. :(

Agreed, even since I made this video logitech havent even given as much as a hint as to their future! Ive been playing around with the R3 and Moza Xbox compatibility and honestly i’m sure they’ll be coming out with a PS variant soon!
