I really enjoy watching this cooking show. Gita Iyer explains the recipe well with clarity. I watch it mainly because I love to hear Tamil being spoken. What will help is to have english captions and also the ingredients to be flashed on the screen. This will help those who do not understand Tamil but can benefit from all the wonderful recipes and also the stories about the olden times ways of life.
Mami’s cooking, her explanations and educational stories are heart warming. I am reminded of the good old days and the forgotten times! Superbly put together! Keep them coming...

Good to see videos with interactions👍🏼On the repeated question on why onions were avoided in our foods for certain occasions is that onion has the property to induce sexual desire. That’s is why during holy days and widows avoid onion in food. On contradicting fact we worship shivan in the form of lingam which itself is a symbol of it.
Just to hear your voice, I follow your videos Amma.. It.'s refreshing my mind always. Mythili France NB: the reason to avoid onion and garlic during viradam days, because they stimulate the sexual hormones!
Thats grt idea to wear all new sarees, some ladies just keep in cupboard neither wear nor give , every time its not abt knowing recipe its just to hear ur positive talks 😀🙏🏻 . Ganesh thanku for sharing ur amma 🙏🏻
Mami. Authentic recipe . Very tasty. Enga aathula dinner seeralam. I modified by adding black rice, kaaraamani and whole green gram. Thanks a lot Anna for sharing this.
Not really. Garlic and onions were introduced in India thousands of years AFTER the old scriptures were first established. Onions are about 2000 years old and garlic was not farmed until I think 500 years ago. No veda said dont eat onion or garlic because at the time these vegetables were not farmed at all here. There is nothing written about exotic nuts either. Do you not eat nuts? Dragon fruit? Dates? Potatoes? Carrots? None of these were in India at the time of the Vedas. There are lot of assumptions by omission by the later learned interpreters of all ancient texts. The same as concept of Kosher food in Judaism. People living in desert did not know about many food items. Anything they did not know about was not written down so later on these omissions were interpreted as not Kosher. My father's grandfather who was doctor used to say there is only one rule for eating food "Chew food well, fill half stomach with food, quarter stomach with water, remaining quarter is air. Best formula for proper digestion." Eat less as you age. This concept is there from ancient times. Eat according to what you do. High protein diet is for people who do heavy physical work. Typically shudras and kshatriyas. Farmers, builders, warriors- hence meat and high protein plants like legumes. Protein digestion results in flatulence. Onion and garlic help reduce that. Meat preparation/legume recipes will typically include both or some anti flatulence agent. People who sit and work for many hours a day should reduce protein, eat more grains (slow energy releases by carbohydrates) and vegetables. Hence vegetarian diet for Brahmins, Vaishyas. If you do a mix of physical labor and sitting down work, ensure your diet is adequately mixed as well. Now a days, caste does not determine work so we have to use our own knowledge and common sense to know what is best for the work we do. As you age, you can make do with less because you dont work that much. Your teeth wear off. The celeia in your intestines wear off so absorption is pooer. So eschew heavy food. Eat light stuff. Eat lesser and lesser. Use common sense instead of following money making international "gurus" who.fly about in air conditioned planes and cars, regularly rub shoulders with conniving capitalists and give gyaan about spiritual life.
@@sunandaKdas thanks for the elaborate answer. But I can't help but wonder when I ever said that it's said in the Vedas? I don't follow any spiritual guru, I try to remember and follow what my late parents practiced. And they followed what their forefathers practiced. For me, there is no better guru than them.
@@uthrasatagopan5952 yes agreed about forefathers. The point to remember is that they were also following someone's interpretation of the texts. In our life, we can make food decisions based on what is applicable to our current lifestyle. What was applicable 100 years ago to women who worked from dawn till night without electrical appliances is not applicable to us now.
A thousand thanks to you maami. When today's generation is losing touch with the previous knowledge, your recipes are the link to the future in the kitchen world. We need to know, learn, and offer ourselves the healthy lifestyle of how 50-70 years back the people were respecting their bodies through food and lifestyle. This is exactly what you are teaching -- old generation recipes. I am just overwhelmed by these recipes which are the representations of healthy body and mind. Please keep updating the recipes which your maamiaar, ur grandmother, and mother were cooking. I just want to connect with the old world through food. I really enjoy your explanations.
Namaskaram Mami & Ganesh Anna, ur recipes along with the explanations on our traditional methods & cultural practices r really valuable which gives happiness to the viewers👍🙏 Here you both discussed about why onions & garlic were avoided in our vegetarian cooking.. I expected u people know . Also u said they r gud for cholesterol & things like that. It's not true, it was wrongly spread.. Actually onions, garlic, green chillies, brinjal, asafodita, coffee, tea etc., are NEGATIVE PRANA food which r not gud for health .They don't have any healthy quality for our body or mind. Only in recent years ( might be for the last 40 to 50 years) people started getting addicted to the above negative items to the extent that we can't cook without them..it's just a mindset which can be again changed.for the sake of our health. Ash poosani ,honey are highly recommendable. Other veges, fruits, grains, pepper..r also healthy. First half of our brunch should be raw ,then cooked food .this is the intellectual and proper way of eating. No need to get confused by discussing on & on.. We can follow this for a week & look at our body, emotions ..it is light & easy,healthy..we can follow what our body says not our doctors or dietician. As the creator is functioning brilliantly within us, who can be a better advisor ? Thank you for ur reciipies again, pranams
