- Seeralam is a very traditional tamil style recipe and there are a lot of variations found across Tamilnadu. While some recipes do not use rice, some vary on the type of lentils used. We use equal quantity of chana dal, toor dal, moong dal and rice for this recipe. The name has stuck with me till now. Its a really healthy recipe and very tasty. It makes for the perfect after school snack.

Gram Dal - 1 cup
Moong Dal - 1 cup
Toor Dal - 1 cup
Urad Dal - 1 spoon
Asafoetida - 2 piece
Dry Chilli as required
Sesame Oil - 1 tbsp
Mustard - 1/2 tsp
Curry Leaves
Turmeric Powder small pinch
Asafoetida Powder - 1/4 tsp
Grated Coconut 2 to 3 spoon
Coriander Leaves (Chopped)

Thanks to your seeralam, dish, I tried something I've long wondered about. Made the batter as per your directions, let it ferment like pulicha adai, steamed it like idlies and had it with milagai podi and wonderful vathal kuzhambu. Enjoyed the benefits of a high protein meal without the oil of adai . Thanks for inspiring me.

We need to add eno fruit salt so that it becomes soft and spongy like dhokla. This way it won't be soft especially for kids and elderly people to eat
