  • Welcome back friends! In this video I'm going to show you how to create keyed smart crates in Serato DJ Pro. This definitely helps me choose my next tracks quickly and efficiently while staying or transitioning into a different key.

    been using serato since its inception & had 20years of crates built until one day, they were all gone. Now i'm rebuilding & getting more involved with smart crates, and that ish is absolutely amazing. Thank you for your assistance tips, & tricks on organizing smart crates.

    You can have more than one key in each folder. Crate 1A contains all songs with Keys
    1A (the same key)
    2A, 12A, 1B (neighbours)
    8A (one semitone up, creates an energy boost according to the MIK guide, and usually sounds good too)

      Is this how you do your Smart Crates?
      Combining what was in the video & what you said in your comment this sounds like it would make the mixing process SO MUCH EASIER! Esp with having such a HUGE collection of 15 tb + of music & vids.

      For 1A i've just done it for the 2A 12A not the 1B as I sometimes played 1B with a 12A in the same folder and thats breaking my ocd mixed in key rules lol
      If I want a different letter I now move no the othe 1B smart crate lol

    Great video! So, when adding more than one rule, it appears the create logic uses each rule with an "and" between them. What if I want to have a Smart Create to include more than one music genre? Example: Pop and Dance. I tired a couple different ways, but no success. Thanks again!

      Hmm, you would either have to filter it by key or by genre then... thanks for watching!

      I'd say the ideal year + budget-wise of MBP to run serato and all that is 2015 as the oldest.

    Does the mixing in key works with dancehall music

    • @Avionyx
      @Avionyx  3 года назад

      Yes, it works with any song that has a melody of any sort.

    Why not just hit the “key” column and see the songs sorted by key within a playlist or library?

    • @Avionyx
      @Avionyx  4 года назад +1

      You could, but you can take any confusion away if everything in the crate/playlist is exactly the key you're looking into

      Bc your gonna want to organize them by bpm also, so your entire library might be organized by key, but as soon as you click on the bpm tab, it's gonna shuffle all the other keyed songs back into bpm order. However, if you organize your key column first, then hold command or control while selecting the bpm column, serato will actually group clusters of tracks together that are both in the same key, and have the same bpm. You can actually use this method to group songs together for multiple columns. 👍

    See when you put 1B contains ...and had to clarify what u want ....by 'doing does not contain' you creating more work ....the trick I found is to save the rule as ....key "IS" 1B
    Because key "contains" 1B just looks for any keys that have a 1 and a B so 11B would show up

      @@Avionyx Crate A with tracks inside. Crate B with tracks inside. I have created a smart crate (BPM) for the crate B. I drag that smart crate to become a "sub smart crate". crate settings : BPM greater than or equal to 106 / BPM less than or equal to 118. Save. checking the Sm. Crate and I can see track from the crate A following the settings.

      The smart crate filter settings will pick up any tracks in the entire library that fall under that criteria. The only thing you can do to help filter in the wanted tracks is to enter something in the Comments column for those tracks itself which would mean manually looking at every single track which then would be no point in doing really. And then make a rule that has comments to equal or contain the keywords.

    Serato Smart Crates aren't so smart. A real example of a Smart Crate is as done by vDJ for many years, where crates build dynamically *based on any track that is playing*. In addition, the built track can be made to show tracks with KEYS that are within the range of compatible KEYS.
    vDJ's method gives tons & tons more options for DJs to mix creatively on the fly from Smart Crates and sound good doing it. The way Serato implemented Smart Crates is just pitiful in comparison.
    Would love to see a movement to get Serato to update Smart Crate functionality, as they have done nothing with it in decades - just like the Video Plugin.
