Thank you for the great video. I have an issue with my smart crates. My MacBook Pro M1 lags a lot when I have them in my library. Do you experience this issue?
Great info Pdot. I actually went back to using regular crates because there are some songs that belong in two or more crates. For example some songs have a hip hop genre tag but sound more R&B to me. I would place the song in both hip hop and R&B. Another example is a song that was released at the end of 1999 but didn’t get popular until 2000 I would have in both 90s and 2000s crates.
With the switch to Apple Music from iTunes making the Serato start up take a lot longer I am experimenting with doing all of my organization inside Serato without using Apple Music. Going to test it for awhile and see how I like it!
@@PDot that change from iTunes to the music app is what’s holding me back on upgrading OS. Using Serato for the smart playlists, how are you doing the append to tag from your old tagging workflow?
i have all my music in a caddy which is cd rom before i convert it into hard drive on my macbook pro.. when i crate it to serato dj pro? i will disappeared when i close the serato dj how to fix it please? 🙏🙏🙏 may start up disk was only 250GB my caddy hard drive is 1TB which i stored all my music files
Pare. I opened my Serato and all my video smart crates are empty. I put in a lot of work separating years and genres and created crates accordingly. The mp3 smart crates are there, but the videos are not. I go in the EDIT section and I see that my rules are there, I click SAVE, and they pop up like normal. BUT!!! when I shut close SERATO and SHUT DOWN, then reopen, the vid smart crates are gone again. Thoughts?
I started my Serato library with just regular crates, now I want to do regular crates and smart crates underneath but is hard to do it because I can't drag song to my smart crates etc..help
I'm using Tidal in Serato pro but I'm not seeing the genre tags in my library so I can create a smart crate. how do I get the genre tags to show so they can map?
I thought you had some other super trick lol. But yes I was stuck like that till I found this magical button. Thanks for been a content creator and sharing your works. Now I need help. My crates take forever to load. I have videos and audio. Many folders and it takes me 15min approx to load all my files. I run on a Macbook M1 maxed out like I said. 32G and 2TB and 6TB SSD sands with 2GB transfer speed. SO please help me brain storm and maybe share your findings with a video for us all to learn what to do Serato Sensei :) Thank you in advance.
In my experience anytime you bring an external drive into the situation, it makes the load time of your tracks/playlists sooooo much longer than if everything was ran off the internal.
the issue I'm having is i changed the wording on from Serato to _Serato_ and now i can't find any of my crates...all i have is a .crate file which i can't open?
Wish there was a way to make a smart crate only pull songs from a certain regular crate instead of the main library. I gigs at places that only want clean music but if I try to make a smart crate and add a rule like does not contain the word “dirty” then I miss out on songs that might just have dirty in the title like “Talk Dirty to Me” or if I say only select songs that say the word “clean” then I miss out on songs don’t have “clean version” or “intro clean” on them. Instead I have to separate my music into a clean and dirty crate when I import and then just scroll up and down said crates while I’m trying to stick to certain genres, timeframes, etc.
I usually prepare my music on my Windows laptop. I set all my cue points analyze my music etc. I created some smart crates on my Windows laptop. I keep all my music on a lacie external hard drive. Afterwards I plug it into my MacBook pro usually everything shows up, if I made regular crates.. but my smart crates never show up on my MacBook pro from my hard drive. Can someone help me understand why the smart crates don't show up?
Ok but technically don't the audio files have to be dragged in from the files section so they are in your library? Well, isn't a smart crate then just adding more "duplicates" making Serato work harder? Hope that makes sense.. iv just been having massive crackling/studdering along with lag making Serato unusable and iv just been trying to pinpoint the cause so Iv been cleaning my library and had the above question cross my mind. For example if I made 2 smart crates with 2 different rules.. I could potentially have the same file in 2 seperate crates ( ex. If one rule was "hip-hop" then the other crates rule was like "melodic")
Smart crate will not make duplicates of your files at all. They are just referencing where the file is located on your computer, just like a regular crate. If you are having crackling issues with your Serato I would try increasing the buffer size. That might help!
You can change the order of the songs by clicking on the different columns at the top of the of the library window. If you want to put the songs in the order that you added them in, you would hit the number column, which is usually on the far left.
Bro. Hashtags. Use hashtags in the comments. #banger | #teen etc. Then smart crates to hashtags. It’s a game changer.
I'm already doing everything you mentioned in your video.
It makes the set up and above all, organization of tracks so much easier.
That's awesome! Using smart crates/playlists really changed the way I DJ for the better!
Great Video! I've been using Serato for about 15 years and had no idea about this feature. Thanks MY MAN🙏

I never thought of making smartcrates then adding them to regular crates.....game changer...

That's why although I use a majority of smart crates, I do have some regular crates to fill in the gaps.
Great video!! Yo Pdot are you still using smart playlists within iTunes or is your primary music management/coding system all through Serato now?
With the switch to Apple Music from iTunes making the Serato start up take a lot longer I am experimenting with doing all of my organization inside Serato without using Apple Music. Going to test it for awhile and see how I like it!

btw...Brian BSTANG turned me onto you. Salamat mucho for turning me onto smart crates!!!
Are you running your videos off of an external drive? If so, I'd make sure that the drive is plugged in before you open Serato.

where do you download your music?
I needed that! Thanks man!
Glad you found it helpful!
Can the smart crate be created with genre and BPM
Great info! Thanks
Thank YOU for watching!
Southern Soul 80's 90's on up All of the years smart crates
Is there a way to create smart crates but it pulls from streaming services such as tidal?
Currently you cannot do that with Serato DJ Pro
How I fix the problem of me making creates an song change the order I put them in
You can change the order of the songs by clicking on the different columns at the top of the of the library window. If you want to put the songs in the order that you added them in, you would hit the number column, which is usually on the far left.
Brilliant. Thank You!
Hope it helped!
@@PDot I been trying to figure this out for some time. Thank you again it did help tremndously!
Dude! Sweet shirt!
Not as sweet as you
Can you add more than one year in that crate like Hip Hop 1990-1999???
You sure can, I add the Year rule after 1980 and another year rule before 2000
@@warrensid thank you sir 👍
You are correct, you can do this by setting 2 rules!
BUT!
If you want to make a 1990-1999 crate the rule set would be:
After 1989
and
Before 2000
typo, meant 1989 and 2000
Dam !!!! This was a great video
Thank you!
Why can't I create a smart crate on serato pro
Freaking awesome and amazing Thank You so much for figuring that out
So silly it was just that little check box!
Loss Playlist in crate how do I restore it
