  • Well this one was a pain in my rear as I have never done this before so it was learning experience. After I thought i had everything done and correct to where I wanted the camshafts i unfortunately decided to take it all out and start over to get closer to the numbers i wanted when degreeing the camshafts. little did i know this was a low overlap camshaft/engine which changes the dynamic of the math used when finding center line of the cams. so i stated over used the correct math and changed the setup of the slotted adjustable cam gears which got me very close to the numbers I wanted!
Thanks for watching guys! and don't forget this build is being RAFFLE for a good cause once it is completed. More to come on that subject very soon.

4:30 how did you know how to position the cams regarding the timing chain engagement/crank position. Are there marks on the cam sprockets that align with something when at the right degree at tdc?

Nice work man, love your resourcefulness and all your knowledge on how to do this stuff, it's really cool to see.

Looked like it was a tight fit getting those cam gears under that chain. Props for going back and doing it right. Respect.

I have a gen2 fz1 with a r1 block r1 head gasket an fz head and camshafts need some advice on how to degree it or if I just have to put in the r1 intake cam

Well, I didn't understand any of that, but I did enjoy it.
If I ever need to get my cams degreed (but why ?) Ill be sure to get someone else to do it.

It was a learning process for me thats for sure. But degreeing the cams has multiple roles. In this case I used a thicker head gasket that changed the mechanical timing so I degreed the cams to bring back the timing and set the timing better for forced induction

Plus a lot of people degree their cams to put the power at a different spot in the RPM range...With a SC on his bike I`m sure he`s wanting to get the exh. cam opened asap..I might be wrong...

Would it be possible to get my shitty
gen 1 fz1 up to level or is it a lost cause.

I mean with enough money it will go fast. They don't make anything for the first gen as far as supercharger kit or turbo kit But nitrous isn't too bad to hookup. I stay away from it because I don't like the idea of instant cylinder pressure spikes. The first gen is a great rider bike. I would leave it at that and start with a different platform for speed. Then again there was a fella who put nitrous on his gen 1 and was running 9.89 in the quarter mile, if I remember correctly
