- How to Remove Gemstones From a Bezel Setting-Unsetting Tool for Cabochon or Faceted Gemstone Bezels - How to use and hold the Unsetting Tool to unset a bezel setting for a cabochon or faceted gemstone. You use this tool to remove a stone from a bezel setting without damaging the stone or destroying the bezel. No one wants to remove a stone from a bezel setting but it happens from time to time and now you have the right bezel unsetting tool.
To date myself, when I was an apprentice goldsmith, laser soldering wasn't available to repair jewelry safely with the stone in place. I had to learn to unset my bezel settings for cabochon or faceted gemstones to safely repair my jewelry without damage to the stone or bezel. Necessity is always the mother of invention, so I learned how to quickly and safely unset my bezel settings without damaging my faceted or cabochon gemstones.

Talked for 3 minutes before showing tool.
Never unset the stone?
Didn’t reset stone.
This was a 2 minute video stretched to 10.
Don’t get us wrong, the video was needed, but respect our time. It is the most Precious thing each of us has.
Thank you.
Agreed, infomercial
Don't waste your time she never got the stone out.,great infomercial
Thank you for sharing your tutorials how to unsettling a stone, it happened to me while I was working setting my cabochon stone. 😊
It happens to the best of us! 😃
Thank you, Jeanette! you are a lifesaver! Just ordered a set - Thank you for all your videos!
The pleasure is all mine! :)
I like this lady
Thank you so very much!😃
Great video..thank you
So glad you enjoyed it😃
I bought this set and I have to say (unfortunately) that I used this tool first and a lot! 🥴 I’m now learning more about the other pieces, through your videos. Soooooo happy that I bought this set. It was expensive for me, so I broke it down into 4 payments on PayPal and that helped a lot.
I am so glad they helped you! :)
This video is absolutely wonderful. Not only did I learn how to unset, but I feel so grateful for the words you've shared. Thank you!
I am so happy that it helped you! 😃
Thank you , informative as always
Glad it was helpful!
You got it ! Love it !
So glad you enjoyed it😃
Yay! Thanks
You are very welcome 😃😃😃
Such a helpful video. I have a bunch of necklaces I bought from charity shops where the stones are beautiful, but the bezels have rusted/broken or I can see them looking a LOT better in a different setting. Before watching this, I just didn't know how to remove them without causing damage.
I am so glad you found this helpful! Just go gently and before you know it, you will have a bunch of gorgeous stones to work with. :)
Been wanting to do this to a ring that matters to me so I can have the stone refacetted. It has a huge window and no sparkle.
Recutting can definitely help 😃
nice that she put this up but the hard part and most important part is getting it started which was unfortunately NOT shown.
oh well. I'll find it somewhere. Also, I am working on a huge amethyst bezel set cab that appears to have been cement seated around base of the open backed bezel.
Is there a solution that dissolves gem cement?
You can set the complete process of unsetting, including the start in my video here: ruclips.net/video/x_H9A4KI7X0/видео.htmlsi=9UZpG26MWQJMtZis
We use a solvent called Attack to dissolve gem epoxy, you can get it lots of places, just google it. :)
Thank you for making a video about this topic. I am unsetting my first stone; when I had my post earring set up in the graver ball, and while I was setting my turquoise stone, the post snapped off below the solder joint. since I had a ton of tape I didn't notice until the end. :( I am wondering if the engraver ball is to blame or if my wire (21 gauge) was simply too delicate for an earring back? How do you set up your post earrings when getting ready to set? Thank you 💜
It is possible you didn’t have it soldered on well enough but if it snapped of during setting, that usually means you didn’t have the earring post completely held in the engraving ball. If it earring is up at all, the sideways force of setting will snap off the earring post.
@@JewelryArts Yeah, I think it was a perfect storm moment again. I just unset my stone, and it went SO well! Stone and bezel are unharmed, and ready to be sanded & set again. That master tool set tho!!! 👌✨🏆Glad to get that "fear of unsetting a stone" out of my way.
Things will always go wrong, it is how you learn to make them go right. It is how I got to my skill level and it is the fastest way to learn. 😃@@ilahroseminton
I’m sure if I had your wonderful tool I would not scratch my stone, but if I did scratch a stone do you have recommendations on how to “fix” a scratch? May you could do a video on that some day.
Thank you for your videos!
You are very welcome! By a coincidence, I was just filming a video last night on that topic. It will be ready eventually and I will post it. :)
Hello,
I hope you can help! How do you do rubover set a single round stone on signet rings? Should I use a flat top with straight edge stone and just glue it? Or a flat top with single bevel stone? If using a FTSB stone that is 1.5mm in height, do i need the bevel to be a bit higher than the stone? And what would the thickness of the bezel should be? Many thanks in advance!
We normally use 26 gauge for bezels but you can go thicker if you like. I only use glue when setting alone may not hold the stone. If your stone is flat topped, the bezel should rise just above the edge to set properly. :)
I used this tool for the first time to remove an opal that I damaged while setting in a 22k bezel. It worked wonderfully. The tool set is amazing! Unfortunately I split the bezel halfway down from the top. Is it possible to repair the bezel?
I am so glad that it worked for you. In the future, take a closer look at how you are closing your seams, because the force of unsetting ordinarily won't split a bezel. That being said, you can use wood dowels to line up the bezel back together and then solder from the inside to fix it. :)
@@JewelryArts thanx Jeanette, I think I was a little overzealous once I got started and it went so well. Another lesson and solution learned. Thank you! 😍
@@endiva7533 You are very welcome! :)
I have a beautiful gold necklace with a stone like this only is the stone damaged and want it replaced. Will this damage the stone setting? Do you set the new stone the normal way with this technique?
You would set the new stone in the same way, after cleaning up the bezel. If you are careful, you should be able to reuse the setting BUT if you haven't already done this before, you might want to practice first. :)
@@JewelryArts thank you! What do you mean by cleaning up the bezel?
@@ffbird7438 You are very welcome! :)
I mean sand the bezel down a bit. If you are careful, with a little sanding afterward you should be good as new.
Can I purchase just your inserting tool? I don’t need the whole set.
Hi Athena I'm sorry but we don't sell them separately.
Do you know why your videos don't run smoothly? A couple them stopped just a minute into them" a couple more stopped halfway through. Has anyone else mentioned this?
nope!
It might be RUclips or your WiFi connection.
waaay too many words.. this could've been a 4 minute video lmao
Yep, education does tend to use lots of words 😃
Could she not unset the stone ??
yes, that must be it.
Does stone doesn't scratch?
If you do it carefully, no. :)

Ah ok thanks 🙏.
