Yay! Hope they get parts out soon. Mines done it twice more since your last video, the last time on the highway with a load of cargo. Thank goodness nothing fell out! But, since I knew I had just put stuff in there and then got in to drive off I know for certain it was completely shut when I left. And big surprise, it was raining quite steadily that day.

the engineer adding the holes on top had no idea what was below the holes. That was someone else responsibility.

I have an appointment for next Thursday to take care of recall. There is also a notice of an issue with ECM for my 3500 HD. They are taking care of it at the same time.

I had the switch replaced on my 2022 Sierra 3500, after several episodes of the tailgate opening on it's own. The service tech pointed out those 2 drain holes, and suggested I seal them with some caulk to prevent further water intrusion into that area. He also mentioned they were changing the top trim cap design on the new models to a flat trim piece without the grip pocket or holes.

That is very interesting about the drain holes. Maybe that is a big piece of the problem. Makes me wonder if I should silicone my drain holes on my truck. Thanks for sharing.

I took my 2021 Silverado 2500HD to the dealership and was told according to my VIN it wasn’t included in the recall. Even though my tailgate goes up and down whenever it wants. They wanted $160 to diagnose it (not fix it) I called GM and filed a complaint

I've been a powerstroke user for 12yrs now and decided to get the 2024 2500 at4. I thought I had this tailgate problem after researching online. I finally realized that when I laid my wallet or anything down in the front center console I was accidentally touching the tailgate lower button just under the AC controls.

My 2500 is affected and I was notified via my Chevy App on my phone. The first one told me that they would disconnect the switch until a fix was out and this one says the part is available. Glad to know. I am waiting on my local dealership to call me back to get it scheduled to replace..
    Update:
All fixed. They had the part and it took less than 15 minutes to do the swap out as they called it at the dealership.

I have a ‘21 AT4 1500 in Canada and the dealership just called to schedule me in for the fix. My tailgate did fall on its own and damaged the tailgate as I was parked closely to another piece of machinery…so I will be trying to put in a claim.

The holes in the top must be a difference. My tailgate does not look like that!
    24 gmc 1500 SLT x81 premium plus.
So far no issues with the tailgate currently have just over 1k miles.
I have had issues with CarPlay not starting and I have to manually reset infotainment by holding down the mute button for 10 seconds while in park.
Once I lost all sound for the remainder of the day after sitting parked for a 12hr shift at work everything was back to working.
    Super weird…
    Thanks!

‘21 GMC 2500HD AT4. No tailgate issues, yet. AZ truck so doesn’t see much rain but it has been thru 2 torrential downpours with no issue. It does have the recall on it. It does have the 2 drain holes in the tail gate pocket…..why can’t we just plug ‘em and be done with it?

@AdventureRocks I have a quick cable disconnect on my tailgate now. It can't fully open unless I release it. It's not that big of a deal to me. I just wanted people to know it's not a water issue. My brother inlaws drops as well and is a garage queen and never comes outside.

I have a 2022 1500 Denali this has happened 3 times to me. I swear I didn't push any button to make this occur. And once, in the morning, I for some reason decided to pull on the (outer, full) tailgate before I went into the vehicle and it dropped right open. Damn! Don;t tell me this is limited to HD's and especially don't tell me it's the 1500's but only if they are in Canada. What does the border have to do with it? EXPAND THIS RECALL!

    • @AdventureRocks
      @AdventureRocks  2 месяца назад

That is very interesting, thanks for sharing. I wonder if the drain holes are key to identifying which trucks are vulnerable and which are not. You'll have to report back if your VIN shows up on the recall even though it doesn't have the holes on top cap.

@@AdventureRocks I was wrong about the standard tailgate not having the two holes at the top. I stopped by the Chevy dealership today, all 3/4 and 1 tons had them on their standard tailgates, the multi function tailgates I cannot say because there weren’t any. On the half tons, multi tailgate or not, none of them had the indentation and didn’t have holes. Also, the half ton work truck had a manual mechanical latch, whereas the 3/4 and 1 tons work trucks all had electric latches.
