I guess you must have done something I liked before..I was already subscribed! This video was a great help. I appreciate that you go through every single step click by click.
thanks Marty, you're just awesome!Just wanna tell you, don't pay attention on that guys ,who are telling you ''boring'' or something. You're making your tutorials excellent and there's no more words.... just keep it up!
I am learning Photoshop without a teacher this is also not my course but I just love doing it so I am learning through watching and this kind of tutorial is the most easy to follow the zooming ang also the slow narration. I love it
Used most of this tutorial to reimagine actors for a hypothetical remake of the 1987 Beauty and the Beast TV show. Thank you so much for making, because my paint job I was trying didn't satisfy me! This worked with Clip Studio Paint. Only difference, I used a snow leopard image and wanted to keep the white coloring...sort of (it blended into the skin I guess when I tried different effects?), so multiply didn't work. Either going to go with linear or hard light for more striking image. I'm amazed, thanks for all the help! I'll link back my video when it's finished.
this is where I'm stuck on the whiskers selection. from 4:30-4:45, is it the entire tiger face we need to paint over (black as foreground) and leave the whiskers only? thanks
I had trouble with 4:28 - 4:45. I was unable to get solid color. im using a cheetah. i tried with a tiger and had the same issue. I am going to skip the whisker part... as i only need to do this so i can get a visual for a drawing i will be doing. Best PS tutorials i have yet to see. Thank you so much.
when i pressed Q around 4:30, the opacity is not 100%. As in... i can still see the image behind the red. unlike yours where it all went solid red. Hope this better illustrates what i mean.
Marty, tell me please how to create such strips on video and their animation(1:42; 1:55-56; 2:05; 2:16; 3:01; 3:19 and other) Sorry for my mistakes? I`m not englishman :)
Great video. We use it in our photography classes. However, wondering how you get the displace file? Am I missing something? Do we make that file, or is it somewhere we can download? Thanks!
You create displacement maps; not download. I covered how to make them in many of my videos. Go to my channel and click the magnifying glass icon (next to “About”). Type in “displacement” or any other subject that interests you.
Hi Blue Lightning, Keep up the excellent work. I'm using your tutorial to help my high school students learn about Photoshop and all the cool things they can do. You're the best!!!
When I click Q after zooming in on the whiskers my pic doesnt turn as red as his and painting the whiskers give a different result. Sucks learning on youtube
Hi, great tutorial! One question, how do you keep the whites so visible with 'multiply' ? I''m using a cheetah face but the edges are all washed out due to the white disappearing in the animals face and revealing the skin of the subject. The 'soft light' trick does bring it up a bit, but not at all enough
How would you then get your subjects hair around the sides on so that it looked natural if hair is down say on a long haired model please. Love your tutorials thanks so much x
...love the tutorial and will give it a go but is it OK to use the tiger image? Is it commercial free and can we use it to post our resulting images on other web sites to show our work? Cheers!
QUESTION-When I go to FILTER>DISTORT>DISPLACE 8:01, It tells me my displacement file from earlier( person face), it says "Could not continue. Displacement maps must be 8 bits/pixel." What am I doing wrong?! Thanks for any help.
Hi , thanks so much for your crack. It really works. But from the beginning it did not work for some reason, I updated visual studio and oh my god it worked. Thank you!
I don't understand something am not getting the whiskers part i get everything else but not the whiskers part. I can't get how you rub around the whiskers i tried but not working.
I really appreciate you tutorials. You are very good at providing great instructions and you have taught me so much valuable knowledge. Thank you so much.
Can an image with a persons mouth open be used? I am practising with the images I have and most of them have their mouths open. Your videos are amazing and very helpful by the way. Thanks. :)
Does this also work with Photoshop CS3? I'm a beginner with Photoshop CS3. I would like to learn how to blend or transform a persons face with an animals face.
Hi Buddy, There are so many people out there putting up RUclips vid's and they forget the ONE major thing that will make or break it, Your voice. Some are so strong in accent's you can't understand the bastards. After listing to you, your voice is so much easier and pleasant to listen to. My wife is a Filopino, easy to listen to, but other nationalities, (sorry for miss spelling) but you get my drift of what I'm meaning. Keep up the great work and help for lots of us out there want to learn Tricks with Photoshop and other programs but CAN'T understand so bloody many of them. Top points to you and thanks, Teddy
It' been awhile since I did this tutorial. When is this in the video (minute: second), please and reference the video name, so I know what you're referring to. Thanks!
I'm stuck at the part when you use the brush tool over the eyes and mouth....For some reason nothing happens or when I tried it again, it turned black. Did I miss something regarding the tiger image?
hello! your tutorials are amazing! Unfortunately I'm not able to open the tiger image. it tells me that the file is damaged! is there another download link?
Marty, is there any way to tell what the vertical/horizontal scale in displacement map should be for certain photo? Or is it more like 'well i think it might be something around 7' and then just increasing/decreasing this value to make the entire displacement looking good? Thanks in advantage :)
The amounts you use for the vertical/horizontal scales largely depend on the resolution of your document. I generally use between 5 to 10 pixels for a document with 150 ppi.
I've been working through this tutorial and all was going well until I got to the part where we apply the displacement map, at this point I got a message that read; "Could not continue. Displacement maps must be 8 bit/pixel". I am unsure what I need to change resolve this problem.

Go to 8:35 in the video.

The tiger image is owned by Shutterstock. It is not commercial-free unless you purchased the license.
Ah, OK, thanks for the info! Great tutorial!
QUESTION-When I go to FILTER>DISTORT>DISPLACE 8:01, It tells me my displacement file from earlier( person face), it says "Could not continue. Displacement maps must be 8 bits/pixel." What am I doing wrong?! Thanks for any help.
Go to Image > Mode > RGB color, 8 bits/Channel
In my Photo why the Tiger face (after change blend mode to "multiply") looks too dark and look have low of opacity ?
Hi , thanks so much for your crack. It really works. But from the beginning it did not work for some reason, I updated visual studio and oh my god it worked. Thank you!
Is your message for me (Blue Lightning TV) or someone else?
I work with cs2 and I can't use alt+cntr+r, what can I do?
I don't understand something am not getting the whiskers part i get everything else but not the whiskers part. I can't get how you rub around the whiskers i tried but not working.
Blue Lightning TV Just fyi, the tiger image link is broken. I downloaded the image but it said the image is damaged.
The link is fine. Try a different Browser.
How did you do the video effect at the end where it tears away the face and fills in with the tiger? What effect is that?
Well that's one way to do it. The whiskers part is nice. Cute result.
now I see how they made the Cats trailer
When I brush, It's just white and when I press x it brushes in black, My brush is at normal, and the colors are black and white. How can I fix this?
click on the masks first. Otherwise you just paint on the layer. (Did I get it?)
vrekman256 when I do that, it doesnt brush anything. But thanks though
vrekman256 o nevermind I pressed x and then it worked , thanks man!
Really well done! Thank you!
Just subscribed and liked the video. Really nice instruction, very detail and pin point

Can an image with a persons mouth open be used? I am practising with the images I have and most of them have their mouths open. Your videos are amazing and very helpful by the way. Thanks. :)
Yes. You'll need to manipulate the animal's mouth and jaw to match the person's.
marty have you got the picture of the girl or are you not able to give it out
I'm not allowed to distribute the photo to the public. Sorry.
Marty, you are awesome! i watched many of your tutorials, and it helps me a lot on my study(as disigner)

Make sure you have the mask selected, not the thumbnail of the image
I found the solution!! Just make the color to white color and you are done!!
I need help here, after pressing Q, I can still see the tiger's face but it should be red and white whiskers right? what should I do?

Another great tutorial, sir! You rock!!
Thanks for the tiger photo.
When I drag and drop the tiger face onto the human face it is super small??? Help!?
Choose another human face whose size & resolution are larger.
OH Nevermind I fixed it I realised the human face was like 10000 pixels by 10000 and the tiger was like 475 pixels by 275. Thanks!
hello! your tutorials are amazing!
Unfortunately I'm not able to open the tiger image. it tells me that the file is damaged! is there another download link?

The amounts you use for the vertical/horizontal scales largely depend on the resolution of your document. I generally use between 5 to 10 pixels for a document with 150 ppi.
Blue Lightning TV Then this amount increases as the resolution is bigger?
CostaGD Generally, yes.

I'm making myself into all the races of the Elder Scrolls, so let's hope I can use this video towards my Khajiit self!
I am having trouble finding "Refine Edge" has it moved?
Adobe replaced it with "Select and Mask". If you want to use Refine Edge, Shift-click "Select and Mask".
Thank You I found it a few minutes after I posted this question.
Great lesson. One question. What's the difference between copy layer (Control-J) and duplicate layer in layers menu?
Copying a layer is making an identical, duplicate of a layer in the layers panel, whereas, duplicating a layer creates a new document of the layer.
Thanks. Appreciate your reply.
nice tutorial! thanx
In the last step I changed the Blend Mode to Vivid Light instead of Soft Light, that also makes the photograph look cool, try it out!
I've been working through this tutorial and all was going well until I got to the part where we apply the displacement map, at this point I got a message that read; "Could not continue. Displacement maps must be 8 bit/pixel". I am unsure what I need to change resolve this problem.
Peter Riordan OK found the solution the image Mode needs to be set at 8bits/channel

How do you turn a video of a person speaking and then transforming into a tiger?
This can be done in Premiere or After Effects; not Photoshop.
