    Tesla Vision Update:
Replacing Ultrasonic Sensors with Tesla Vision
Safety is at the core of our design and engineering decisions. In 2021, we began our transition to Tesla Vision by removing radar from Model 3 and Model Y, followed by Model S and Model X in 2022. Today, in most regions around the globe, these vehicles now rely on Tesla Vision, our camera-based Autopilot system.
Since launch, we have continued to make incremental improvements in both feature parity and safety. Compared to radar-equipped vehicles, Model 3 and Model Y with Tesla Vision have either maintained or improved their active safety ratings in the US and Europe, and perform better in pedestrian automatic emergency braking (AEB) intervention.
Today, we are taking the next step in Tesla Vision by removing ultrasonic sensors (USS) from Model 3 and Model Y. We will continue this rollout with Model 3 and Model Y, globally, over the next few months, followed by Model S and Model X throughout 2023.
Along with the removal of USS, we have simultaneously launched our vision-based occupancy network - currently used in Full Self-Driving (FSD) Beta - to replace the inputs generated by USS. With today’s software, this approach gives Autopilot high-definition spatial positioning, longer range visibility and ability to identify and differentiate between objects. As with many Tesla features, our occupancy network will continue to improve rapidly over time.
For a short period of time during this transition, Tesla Vision vehicles that are not equipped with USS will be delivered with some features temporarily limited or inactive, including:
Park Assist: alerts you of surrounding objects when the vehicle is traveling -8 km/h.
Autopark: automatically maneuvers into parallel or perpendicular parking spaces.
Summon: manually moves your vehicle forward or in reverse via the Tesla app.
Smart Summon: navigates your vehicle to your location or location of your choice via the Tesla app.
In the near future, once these features achieve performance parity to today’s vehicles, they will be restored via a series of over-the-air software updates. All other available Autopilot, Enhanced Autopilot and Full Self-Driving capability features will be active at delivery, depending on order configuration.
Given the incremental improvements already achieved with Tesla Vision, and our roadmap of future Autopilot improvements and abilities, we are confident that this is the best strategy for the future of Autopilot and the safety of our customers.

Biggest mistake from Tesla was to remove sensors from the bumpers. Either they need to add camera in front, on the bumper, or it will always remain not precise. I'd be happy to pay an extra and be able to order one which has sensors in front and back...

Thanks for taking the time to do a video and post. I will report that with the new 5mp cameras, HW4 and the addition of radar in your model Y it works no better than my 2023 M3 with no sensors, old hardware and 1mp cameras. My distance numbers fluctuate all the time too, not to mention being inaccurate. I hope Tesla turns this around soon. I really need birds eye view like i have in my older ICE vehicles.

I’m guessing that the camera sees the curb line and is providing the distance from the car to the curb line for the parking space and not to the sign behind it…

  • @exaturbo

Tesla shouldn’t have removed the front bumper camera from the new model 3. Without the bumper camera, the car is 100% just guessing the front parking distance.

This is because the car is using the central front camera to estimate distance and being your car not perfectly perpendicular to the other the estimation is wrong. I'd bet that this distance (84 cm) is the distance from the middle of your bumper to the black car.

Quite disappointing. I recently subscribed for the FSD only to find no summons, no self parking. It will stop at traffic lights about 80% of the time but fails to go on a green light. Fortunately, I can cancel at any time. There should be a disclaimer stating that it's currently under construction and many features simply do not work.

as someone who cycles round cities, can I say that I don't think anyone should be driving FSD "beta" at all at least having it no start at green lights is not directly hazardous. non-motorway roads are simply too complex and too diverse. Motorways I do see as tractable, though I'd prefer everything attempting it to have Lidar *and* use some V2V comms to warn of issues up ahead

    • @LanceJDanks
      @LanceJDanks Год назад

@@SteveLoughran My last 2019 Tesla S had both sensors and Tesla vision and did quite well in town and on the freeways. My 2023 Tesla X no longer has sensors (cost savings I'm sure) only the so called new and improved Tesla vision cameras. The lack of senors makes FSD even more difficult to improve upon. Pretty useless at this point, particularly the absence of summons which I like. Disappointing to say the least.

Funny how people keep defending it with the "it's good, but...", NO ITS TOTAL SH*T, the system that should be warning you if you are about to collide with an object just lets you collide....
I see a massive revenue income for Tesla here, create a problem and sell the solution, in this case new front-bumpers, headlights, rear-bumpers and labor cost (great earning model)..
Like apple did by removing the headphone jack and immediately starting to sell wireless headphones and dongles for every accessory (and sales were booming, yeah no shit).....

My 2016 Ford Focus finds parking up to 40 km/h (25 mph) and without pressing the "AutoPark" button, it is always active. The Ford system parks very quickly, even in impossible spaces. My Ford Focus also parks without markings or lines and also calculates the curb to protect the rims!

It's bumpy, it's rattly, when I want something I need to take 2 minutes on the screen, it's unreliable, bad build quality, cheap materials, a steering wheel that wobbles up and down when you move it, the top of the door wobbles, horrible brittle sound on the trim when you knock it, fabric on the bottom of the seats, not covered back cup holders in the armrest and covered with cheap plastic, when I put down the back armrest while in drive it makes a loud rattling sound, bad door closing sounds, cheap fabric speakers and part of dashboard which gets worn out quickly, the roof window gets orange in the sun, back seat shaking around while drive, back seat belts unsupported so they fall to the side any time you move, scratchy seat belt material, the backs of the front seats are covered with cheap scratchy plastic, old Teslas had a manual opening storage in the centre console, new Teslas centre console storage place is dangerous and can get your hand scratched and caught, back windows only go half way down, zero back window visibility, squeaky windows, loud cabin noise, barely any configuration choices. If you question me, I tell you that I test drove two Teslas for myself. Teslas should be £15,000 - £20,000 not £50,000, it just doesn't make sense. Beware, Tesla is a scam.
    - Add on: Before I went for my test drive, it took me 5 minutes just to open it. I placed the card onto the door pillar where it was meant to be and it just didn't open, Tesla should just make a key for goodness sake and trying to be "unique"!! I don't want to take 5 minutes opening a car thank you very much.
    Teslas are unique. Uniquely bad.

Boy seriously? The camera system creates a 3D environment when you start parking and driving towards objects. Every time you get out of the car during the test, the car assumes that the parking process is over and resets the 3D environment and therefore does not see the car right in front of the hood but only the roof of the car which is 80cm away. If you had just driven up to the object and parked as you normally would, it would have worked. Some basic understanding of the technology and what you are testing there would be appropriate.

System will not detect/see it and voila! You just ruined your bumper! So, stop being a j.rk and respect what is shown here. You are not the only wonder kid here.
