Good informative and honest video explaining the good and bad of each choice. I chose the monofocal lens because I wanted the sharpest and best contrast for distance vision. I didn't care about using glasses for reading. I didn't want night driving halos, reduced dim light vision, reduced contrast and reduced distance vision sharpness. (Only the monofocal lens transmits 100% light to the retina ) My intermediate vision is great also, only need glasses for less than about 1 foot distance. Cell phone no problem. I don't know why anyone would opt for a multifocal. The benefits don't outweigh the negatives.
You are absolutely right. I have those special lens at an out of pocket cost of almost 10 grand. Not covered by insurance. Night driving is almost impossible because of halos and dramatic sparking of the newer led headlights from on coming cars. Right choice
Even using smartphone with monofocal ? Just wow ! Can you briefly describe about your lens model because I think it's an Extended depth of focus Monofocal which increases intermediate vision as the video describes & if it's standard then you're having good days ! My mother got operated today with Johnson Technis monofocal & I'm really worried about her near vision, reading your comment just sparkled my eyes 💜
This video is the most helpful of all of the different videos I've watched. The doctor is an excellent, engaging presenter. If you're considering catarac surgery this is a "must watch".
Im now 72, five years ago I had cataracts removed and had the inter-occular multi focal Tecnis Symfony lens procedure on both eyes. My close and distance vision is now fantastic! I do not need any other vision correction (contacts or eye glasses) and have been so impressed with the results. If your eyes are otherwise healthy aside from the cataracts, I heartily recommend inter-ocular implants!
This is one of the most comprehensive and definitive video about the types of lens available and suitable for cataract surgery patients' needs. Great video!
Sir, which lens we choose in monofocal their are several types in that like 1)HYDROPHOBIC aspheric OZIl 2)imported aspheric ozil(sensor) 3)imported aspheric ozil (alcon IQ) 4)imported negative aspheric ozil (tecnis Amo.) 5)imported pre-loaded aspheric ozil (tecnis pre-loaded) 6)hydrophobic arcrlic photochromic ozil 7)technis eye hand bifocal 3)
I had decent vison before cataract surgery. ( Obviously I was told I had cataracts) Night vision and glare could be improved. I wore glasses all my life basically for reading. I am 85 and very active. I did have cataract surgery on the right eye opting for the reading implant and was scheduled for the same on the left eye a week later. Yes I would need glasses for distance and maybe even for reading. I asked myself if why should I continue when my left I was naturally multifocal. Yes the implant would have improved near vision but why remove a natural multifocal and replace with a synthetic multifocal implant? I wear sunglasses for driving now. I am still healing for the first surgery.
I had this surgery along with 2 others. I'm 13 nearly 14 and i was born with an extremely severe cataract in my right eye. I had surgery to have the cataract removed and when I was about 7 or 8 months old, i then developed a very obvious squint and lazy eye. I'm also having squint surgery in 10 days to attempt to straighten my eyes a bit more, which I'm actually really excited for after all the bullying. For anyone considering this surgery, I'd say definitely go for it, for most people, the effect is amazing. Thank you for reading this :)
Hi Bradley, Thank you for your question. We do not provide medical advice over social media and recommend that you contact your primary care physician or eye care professional to see which option would work best for you. In good health, Peggy
Bradley Ruffner hi Bradley, as far as I learned from this video they recommend a lens for the as you say "bad eye" that doesn't need to be perfect for far like a multi focal and a lens for the good eye that could accommodate for distance vision like a mono focal.
Hi KeepingitKlassy, For specific questions related to the IOL lens after it is implanted, we recommend you schedule a follow-up appointment with your ophthalmologist. In good health, Mandy
Yes, initially before the capsule has contracted. Most of the time it doesn't. Toric lenses are implanted at an angle to compensate for the initial rotation due to healing, contraction, etc.
Hi Josh, We are concerned about your comment. If you are experiencing what may be a medical emergency, please call 911 immediately, or we recommend calling your ophthalmologist so they can perform an exam. - Danny
My son has a detached retina in both eyes he lost the vision in his right eye in like the third grade he's now 20 and today they told me they saw a cataract on his left eye but don't want to do surgery now to come in n six months but there is a chance of complete vision loss I'm desperate to get a second opinion.. And an alternative other then surgery..im listening to your video as I type and he did mention to me at the Dr office today mom You See a halo around the light on the wall I told him no.. But any way any advice please leave me a comment I really appreciate it. Thanks...also he has scar tissue on his eyes
Hello Maria, Thank you for your message. For more information, please contact our Physician Referral line at 1-800-827-4277 option 1. They will be able to help you find an Ophthalmologist. -Lesley
I had a detached retina in my left eye. I was told that I wouldn't have to worry about it detaching again under normal circumstances. That was in 2012. Last month I had cataract surgery on that same eye. Every thing went good. Think you should talk with his doctor to put your mind at ease. Cataract surgery shouldn't effect his retina. The cataract surgery is a relatively minor surgery.
robfolks wish it was that easy my son lost his right eye in the third grade due to a detach retina he has them in both he has scar tissue on both eyes but see light perception out his right eye the Dr's at wills eye in Philadelphia who did his surgery are concerned he might lose the left with the cateract surgery it's not an option I'm so glad things went well with you 🙏 but I've found something called the nano drops and we have until June to explore
robfolks to be honest I'm just scared he's 20 I'm 40 if he do lose his vision I'd be so hurt I'm still crying it's just very scary I'm sorry 😢I'm his mom and nobody can take care of my boy but me he told me he's scared 😩
what if the Toric lens arms either be one arms is broken what will happen can you explain the possible vision that can be corrected,, pls give advantage an disadvantages of this Toric lens thanks.. as it very important for its long term use and side effects
what is the possibility of the toric lens arms can break when using any of this type of your lens and how long is the toric lens 2 arms be strong and will not break on a long term
I understand that once a cataract has been removed and a Lance's put in 2 years later another cataract can develop in the back of the ones that was put in the first place this is an older video they have come up with more advanced cataract technology
What was the worst decision? I am going to assume a multi-focal or Toric. For this reason more than any other, I am going with a mono focal lens later this month. I already wear bifocals from the time I get up until bedtime every day. I have been doing it so long that it does not bother me at all. Why take the chance? I am asking them to give me the best distance vision possible with a mono focal lens. I drive a lot at night and need the halos gone as much as possible.

Doctor, question please: I have had cataract surgery in my R eye for distance and it has worked giving me better distance vision. Next, I am doing a contact lens trail for short distance in my L eye. If I then go ahead with cataract surgery for near distance in the L eye (which has a more minor cataract compared to the right eye but I prefer to get this done now rather than later in life) and if after surgery I find I can't focus and see the detail on my computer screen for my work, will glasses help in this situation? Also, can I get glasses that will enhance distance vision for when I am driving?
