I just left Seattle, and it’s been so bittersweet. We rented in Ballard, despite the decline it’s still a great neighborhood and the school district was very good. It was an older 1100sqft, 2bd 2ba, 7 closets, fully equipped kitchen, storage unit and covered parking spot for $2000 plus utilities. Unfortunately crime has been on the rise, our mail and packages got stolen on a regular basis, car got hit while parked on the street several times, and other car in the shared garage got smashed and broken into about every 6 months. Don’t be fooled by the tragic appearance of the homeless- they will attack you if you look soft. Get bear spray, they laugh at pepper spray. And watch out for the uneven sidewalks. That said, it’s a really cool, fun, techy city. I can’t imagine my career growing as it did anywhere else. Even though I didn’t find my tribe there, I met a lot of really interesting hustle minded people. Public transit was pretty great too. By far my favorite was all the incredible nature of the PNW, it’s magical. Good luck, Sarah. I’m sure you’ll have an awesome time there, just be aware of your surroundings.
I think I'd pick #3! Though I've never been to Seattle so don't know the neighborhoods and how crazy I would go being 20 min from downtown. Right now I live in a suburb about 15-20 min from downtown in my city and I really miss living in the hustle and bustle.
20 years a go my friend could afford a 2 bed room rental in Ballard. By herself. Until they raised the rent( her space was beside the washer and dryer room. Also right above the entrance. So maybe that apartment was less due to the inconvenience.) It is amazing to see how expensive living can be.
My rent is almost $3k for a 2 bed/2 bath apartment that's about 800 sq feet. Median housing is easily over $1M. I'm torn between moving to a city with much more reasonable housing, but the food here is just too good. And yes, I live in California.
Hi Sarah! Would you do a video recommending things to do in Seattle? No worries if not, but I always love to get recommendations from someone who’s lived there 💖 maybe you can throw it into a Vlog or a chatty GRWM
You’ve quickly become one of my favourite RUclipsrs so I’ll watch anything you do! I liked this video. 😀 Out of curiosity, where are you going to film in a one bedroom apartment?
We are actually thinking about using the bedroom as a filming room/office, and have our bed out in the living room! But we haven’t decided for sure yet
@@SarahRoseBeauty That's what we do! My fiancé and I live in a one bedroom in north NJ and we made the bedroom my office (I do youtube and work from home) and turned the big living room into our bedroom & living room. Bookshelves make awesome room dividers!
I did not know this was a genre of video on RUclips, but I'm super into it if the other videos out there are anything like yours. You did a great job with it!
It gets a bad rap for being expensive, and while it’s definitely not a cheap place to live it’s not nearly as expensive as places like NYC or LA, even Atlanta is more expensive than Seattle lately. I’m glad I was able to show it’s possible to find decent housing there!
A bit of public service announcement for those not super familiar with the area. I used to own a townhouse just a few blocks off of Aurora avenue within a mile of Licton Springs. Do not move to within a few blocks of Aurora Avenue!! It is far sketchier than the video implies. You have in your face all day and all night prostitution and drug dealing opening happening with no fear of repercussions. Somewhat not terrible during the day but definitely not a comfortable or safe feeling place at night. There are so many far better areas in Seattle or within inner suburbs that are not far from that price point.
If location wasn't a concern (I don't drive so would need easy access to public transit), then I'd choose the third one if only for that extra room! I have too much stuff. 😅 That balcony and view seemed peaceful, too.
Apartment 3 looked super nice! I will say it is probably cheaper to just do laundry at a laundry matt. I pay $50 a month just for washer and dryer rental, which is ridiculous. All of the outside cities, like Bothell, Everett, Lynnwood, prices are almost higher than Seattle area which is frustrating.
I use up $60 a week in quarters at the laundromat for laundry/linens (about 6 loads for 3 peopled), in Seattle. So I’d say your $50 a month is a bargain 🤷♀️ …. one of those loads is kitchen linens such as napkins, towels and tablecloths because we don’t use disposable paper products in the kitchen. I know that might seem a little extra to some families, but it’s important to us.
I'd pick #3, with it being the biggest, plus it looked like it had the most natural light coming in. I don't like being by downtown so the fact that it was a bit farther away would have been nice for me.
I love house hunting and thinking about how you would arrange/decorate. What a fun surprise of a video! So happy for you moving back to Seattle. I hope that your move is stress free!
When I was in the area I had to deal with an overpriced studio down and had to pay extra if I wanted to park. What sucks the most are all these places with year long contracts so you don't get the wiggle room to shop around for a better deal. You have to get lucky. We ended up heading all the way down to Olympia with a WFH job and getting a 2 bedroom for the same price.
I'm amazed at these finds. Idk if prices have gone up or what in the last year or the area I was looking but I went apartment hunting in december, south of seattle, into the suburbs but not too far and everywhere that was under
This was so interesting!! I love beauty, but it's really fun and refreshing to see other types of content sprinkled in, as well. I'm excited to see your new place and the moving vlogs! 😄💜🌻🦋✨
We sold property (almost 3 acres) in lynnwood about 2 blocks off hwy 99 at the end of 2021 for $1.5M. A developer bought it. It was so sad to see it go, but the property taxes were insane! My grandparents bought the property for around $5K which was a lot of money back in the late ‘50’s. The prices have skyrocketed in that area. To think it used to take 15 minutes on hwy 99 to get to downtown Seattle and today it would take 2-3 hours to get there depending on traffic!
I enjoyed the different video! So interesting to see another rental market. I'm currently looking for an apt in NYC. The market is insane. Studios are ~$4k. I've even seen studios for $5k+! Good luck on your search!
My resident math nerd did a bills breakdown at one point and running both the washer and dryer averaged about .29 a load for water and electricity. This is in the midwest, but definitely less than they charge!
Apartment 3, that hot water tank room would’ve been great to have for cat boxes! I was surprised to see that Seattle rent doesnt seem too much more expensive than my college town in WV.
I live in San Diego, California and the median house price is about $700K and rent about $3K and up for a house. It's bananas. Thankfully we're buying and we've been at our house for 11 years. Our mortgage is less than the cost of a 1 bedroom apartment rental.
This makes me very grateful for my apartment. It’s 900 CAD a month for 1000sq ft. With two bedrooms. I do miss in unit laundry tho cause my building charges 2.50 for washer and 2.50 for dryer so I air dry my clothes.
Throughly enjoyed the apartment hunting video. I am moving to a nearby suburb city and I would need a 2 bedroom unit. I read and heard that apartments within the city of Seattle are expensive compared to the suburbs.
Woah 😳!!!! My mortgage payment is $1700 for a 3200 square foot home. That’s insane. A two bedroom apartment in a nice new complex is around $1000 a month or less. I would be nervous to live in Seattle with the uptick in crime. Be safe!!!!
I'm super picky lol I would've kept looking 😅 I like 3, but prefer washer/dryer in the unit and designated parking spots. I live in Renton which isn't a bad drive to Seattle. I prefer the suburbs though lol I currently pay $2600 a month for my mortgage after I refinanced. It used to be $3200 a month. I got tired of apartment living and already knew I loved this area.
As a current Seattle resident, I would probably have gone for either of the two in Lichten Springs. I am also an in house pet sitter and get to see quite a few different apartments.
It's insane the prices in places. Where I live that might be about $400 a month. 99% of people buy and own their homes where I live though. And that's like how much their mortgage is a month. It's always just so interesting to see this kind of thing.
@@ambergerhelper7852 my cousin moved to Nashville and phew the price she pays for an apartment and has like 4 roommates too. I will be moving to downtown seattle sometime end of this year. Is it worth ditching my car? Or are there apartments that don’t charge for parking in the downtown area?
Oh yeah it will be tough to find a place downtown that doesn’t charge for parking and there’s very little free street parking over there. Most places anywhere in Seattle charge for a covered parking space, but areas outside of downtown often have decent street parking if you don’t want to pay for a garage spot.
