    For more details on Seattle’s rain, I do a better job explaining it here - ruclips.net/video/LvtKMC378Vg/видео.html. I think bc it’s been so sunny recently, I didn’t go into much detail about the rain 🙈
    Seattle residents, leave your answers to the questions below! 💙💚

    Kelly. You video was so accurate and informative. We moved 10 years ago from Orange county to Seattle and love it. The walkability and beauty is amazing. We are baseball and soccer fans so it’s even better. The hiking and water is so peaceful. You described the rain perfectly- I get that question all the time. My family is in California and I enjoy visiting but there is no way I would move back. I love Seattle

    Kelly, I love your videos. You got here before me. I moved 2 years ago from San Francisco so your videos about your own move were super helpful to me during that time. I agree about the Airbnb. I got one for a month to give myself time to explore all the neighborhoods and pick the right one for me. I manage two apartment buildings in Seattle, so as far as rent goes, if people look at the older buildings then the rent is sometimes less expensive. I also own a dog walking and pet sitting business here, and one thing people moving with pets might find interesting is that there are more dogs than children in Seattle and more cats than dogs! Also, I've found meeting people much easier when you have pets. People are always out walking their dogs and it's a great way to make new friends.

    Long comment incoming. Adding these into the recruiting one-pager draft.
    Does it actually rain all the time?
    -No! I always point back to the amount of rain + days of rain. The grey days are probably the bigger factor weatherwise. Most folks coming from more intense winters do well with the weather.
    How is the cost of living?
    -Depends where you come from, but it is a tech-based city after all. Cost of living can be high if you're not used to finding frugal alternatives (roommates, public transpo, etc.)
    -Affordable housing programs go up pretty high, in 2021 I saw some programs go to almost 6 figures for a single person
    Do you feel safe?
    -Safety is relative to each individual, In areas where there's a lot of people, it feels more safe
    Do you have a car?
    -Public transpo is better than socal, but it's not up to some other cities (Chicago, NYC, etc.)
    -Neighborhoods will often have your essentials, but you'll probably want a car to get to other places
    Did you know anyone before moving?
    -Just some really cool transplants that would get dinner with me once in a while when I was travelling
    Does Seattle freeze exist?
    -Post covid, I think if it does exist, it's greatly diminished. Add that there's so many transplants in Seattle and you get an environment where there's a lot of ppl looking for more connections and friends. This is heavily dependent on the neighborhood you settle in. If it's a priority for you, try cap hill or SLU.
    Moving tips?
    -do the abnb route if you can, or a temporary extended stay with a friend, visit the different neighborhoods and find what feels right
    Is there a perfect time to move?
    -not quite, but spring & summer moving makes for a great time to transition into Seattle, make friends and get familiar with the city

    • @KellyLira
      @KellyLira  Год назад +2

      THE RECRUITING KING! Dude these are all so good. Especially love the callout about the season you move because I definitely go into hibernation mode and don’t socialize as much in the winter 😅 also 100% agree with the note about public transpo and comparing it to other cities. Seattle’s light rail is good for what it is (gets you to airport from downtown and north of downtown) but definitely has room for growth!

    • @peeyuh
      @peeyuh Год назад +2

      +1 on moving in the spring/summer! We moved here in early September because we wanted to experience the last of summer and hold onto that memory to get us through the winter LOL and on picking a place to move to - walk around that neighborhood at night to really get a feel for your safety tolerance! :)
      Doing things also helps with the friend-making situation. I've never experienced a sense of community (other than like, college friends turned adult friends) until moving here. My husband and I started playing pickleball and the number of friendly people we've met and talk to on a regular basis has grown a lot to the point where we'll bump into them outside of the courts!

      @KellyLira  Год назад +1

      @@peeyuh love this and thank you for adding your input too!! September is truly the best month weather-wise, so I’m glad you got to enjoy that before winter!
      +1 for the tip about walking around at night because it can be a different vibe between night and day in different neighborhoods
      and that’s so good to hear about your friend-making experience! 🤗🤗 shoutout to pickleball!

      @alanbooe Год назад +2

      @@peeyuh this is exactly the point I try to make when friends come to visit in the summer. I just got back from a whirlwind trip visiting Amsterdam, Paris and New York City (New York is not new to me, was just visiting friends and I used to live on the East Coast). I have to say there seems to be a lot of videos on RUclips on moving to Paris or living in France, and i’m guessing more videos than moving to/living in Seattle. I’ll have to say, having grown up in Central Washington, having lived in the Bay Area in my early 20’s, living in CT for grad school and seeing most of the major cities in the US and just coming back from Europe, i have not encountered a city as perfect for me as Seattle is. Of course i loved Amsterdam (the nicest people there) and Paris and Loire valley are just stunning, but I love, like what you say, the perfect mix of nature and city that you get in Seattle that you won’t get outside of the Pacific Northwest. I love that if i need to I can get away from people and have space (something you can’t do in a lot of the major cities i just mentioned), i can do that. I’m a runner and there are trails here i can run on. In Paris the poor runners have to run through these throngs of tourists (if you know of quieter places to run in Paris let me know). I love the green. I love the mild climate. I play soccer here and love my soccer community. I love being outdoors and being active a lot. I love not having to worry about my fashion and being judged for what I’m wearing - i appreciate the practicality of the people here.

      On Washington State Department of Transportation’s (WSDOT) website, you can find the ferry schedule for various routes - wsdot.com/ferries/schedule/default.aspx
      What we’ve done is if we are driving onto the ferry, arrive early before departure to wait in line, buy a ticket, and then load onto the ferry. Then once you’re on the ferry, you can leave your car and go to the passenger deck and sit inside or outside.
      You can also go on the ferry with a bicycle or motorcycle or go as a pedestrian. Here is WSDOT’s first time rider’s guide for more info - wsdot.wa.gov/travel/washington-state-ferries/rider-information/first-time-riders

    I'm always amazed by average rent prices. You would think studio apartments wouldn't be very popular with the crowd paying over 1500 a month and that they'd opt for a 1 bedroom, of which there are quite a few around Seattle at that price point. And yet, the average remains. Of course, there are other factors to consider in a studio apartment, like neighborhood, size, building quality, amenities - but still. There seem to be enough 1-beds under 1580 you'd think the studio average would be lower. Plus, I know a good share of people in Seattle paying around 1000 for a studio. So who are all these people paying 2000 for a studio that offset them?

    Used to be a wonderful place till it was, like so many other cities, Californicated. The only people who think it isn't in a nosedive are people from California, as is beautifully demonstrated by the comments. As a native who has lived elsewhere and returned, it's a shame that spores that ruined their original state have spread here and without irony or awareness, are aggressively pursuing the exact same attitude and policy to the new victim. Seattle isn't the only place being destroyed by Californian idiocy and arrogance.
