The houses are more expensive the what she says; much higher
Thanks for sharing your perspective. You're right in that I talk about the median value but there are definitely homes that are more expensive than the median values I provide.
For those that are considering relocating to Salem, what do you think they should be prepared to spend when buying a house?
Based on the video it looks nice, but I hear the winters are brutal. No thanks
It's rainy and colder in the winter, that is true. Where are you watching from?
Lost me at car dependent
Yeah I agree, that part sucks and while it's not the end of the world, its a huge let down that this city is car dependent.
Born and raised in Salem, thank god I left and never looked back!! 1 bridge to W Salem still cracks me up and S Salem is so vanilla..
Where did you end up relocating to?
@@SalemOR Huntington Beach, CA. I went back for my reunion at North Salem.
@@SalemOR where'd you go? I used to cruise the gut and rip up "the alley" lol. Good times.
Oh Cali is a nice place. What do you think is the biggest difference between living in Salem and California?
Just browsing on streetview as and outsider...Liberty and Commercial or 3 lane 1-way streets....wayyyy too wide! It kills walkability
Salem has half a million people living in the metro area. It’s not at all walkable. You might prefer Bend Oregon if you’re looking for a city that has all Salem offers, but is much more walkable.
This is not a pedestrian friendly city and is totally car dependent.
I'd relocate out of dead end Portland, too...just not to Salem. It would be not Oregon.
Most Oregonians see Salem as the armpit of the state.
Where did you end up relocating to?
Thats exactly what I thought about Salem before moving here (and how I used to describe it). It hasn't been easy to find my tribe of people and it took some work to figure Salem out, but now I can appreciate Salem as not just the armpit of Oregon, but the whole torso.
To much unnecessary yakking…couldn’t watch
Yak Yak Yak, but I’d rather be a llama 🦙
Salem is the most depressing place I have ever lived in my entire life. Do not move there.
I can appreciate that perspective. How long have you lived in Salem?
What's the point? Probably have the same people there
Smaller city, real estate is less expensive.
I concur. Cheaper real estate, smaller town vibes, slower pace of life.
Sure ... Why hang out in the peripheral of a cancerous body.. when you can move to the center of the tumor!
I get that perspective. I didn't think highly of Salem before I moved here.
Where are you watching from?
@@SalemOR my couch!
@@crusader_2028 Rude geez
@@DarlaAnne sure..i'm rude for not answering stupid questions. Friend of @SalemOR! Oregon's legislature has made Oregon a horrible place for rural people to live for decades.. I believe that legislatures does all their conniving in Salem.. I know most of the people there are decent... But the "visitors" are nasty!
@@crusader_2028 Friend of? do you mean me? lol this is the first video I've ever clicked on of this person. It's called "conversation" and just being polite and having manners. I've never been to Oregon but okay.
i'm curious... the goose still stopping traffic on state street every day... and attacking people at the businesses downtown... also how is Salem a small city.
lol no, but I do feel like the Turkey's are taking over. I've never met this angry goose. How long ago was it stopping traffic and getting angry?
@@SalemOR I left in 2009 it was still stopping traffic every day... and I am pretty sure it was the summer before I moved that he was on the News because it wouldn't let people into one of the stores downtown.
I wish I saw that. I feel like this has been the year of the Turkey's. They have taken over.
Salem is the third biggest metro area in the state. It meets every definition of a “city.” In fact, it’s bigger than any city in the state’s of Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, New Mexico, and has more people than the entire state of Wyoming.
If you’re looking for a small town, Salem ain’t it. Maybe check out The Dalles or Mollala Oregon for some small town living.
Of course, if you want to get away from city life, Burns Oregon may be the perfect place!
580,000 people in Wyoming
Great perspective.
Dallas, Monmouth, Independence and Silverton all have about 10,000 people and are truly a town.
I relocated from Portland which has become my definition of a city in terms or amenities, size, etc. From my perspective Salem is a town but I totally understand where you're coming from because my definition doesn't align with the true definition of what a "town" actually is.
