as a youth growing up in Guyana in 1988, i got one of my first stone love cassettes and that was it, no other sound system came close and that voice and juggling style changed the game forever. Rory is the Goat of all MCS on Soundsystem not just stone love. That's the pinnacle and as chin rightfully say he came in a perfect storm.

The quicker the other selectors recognize that and give him (Rory) his flowers, the more they will be respected. I think Rory was treated harshly by Pow, he was a founding member of the sound and should have been embraced and given a role in the stone love organisation to grow the brand. With Rory a part of the organization stone love would be much bigger today because he his an asset. That the reason he his still able to travel today and recognized as the greatest Pow was short sighted in his treatment of the man and every selector on stone love need to use Rory's situation as a marker. Instead of hating on him use his (Rory's) fame to grow the business which would have all of them earning more. He was the one who took it, built it into a household name, and revolutionized what became known as dancehall. He was the first selector to use 2 turntables and "juggle" music. Without the Genius Stone Love would have been "just another" sound system and dancehall as we know it wouldn't be what it is today. It's just like the LA Lakers. The Buss family are great business people but it was "Showtime" (Magic, Kareem, Worthy, Scott et al) who took them to another level. Once they reached the pinnacle, the family was able to attract the likes of Kobe, Shaq, & LBJ. Why? Showtime already set the trend.

He had just graduated from Calabar High School & was considering university. Wee Pow liked his disco boy style & asked him to join SL.

You are 100% correct!!! Stonelove is Rory, Weepow and then Slaughter..The fact that Stonelove was built as a DANCE HALL juggling giant (Untested) . The way Slaughter fits the occasion is when other sounds think that all Stonelove is built for is juggling thats when Slaughter is put to his greatest work.. Slaughter is a great selector only because his knowledge of the Stonelove catalog and the lack of clash dates keep him extremely fresh when it comes to clash time. Slaughter will never be bigger than Stonelove and the originals. Squingy made Bass Odyssey and new that he did but respected the boss and the brand. RIP Squingy is gone but I don't think He would have been as great without the machine that he mastered (Bass Odyssey). Slaughter should take the same approach and humble his self and fully connect to the machine that made him (Stonelove) . Many other sound men tried to disconnect themselves from the machine that made them. Few have made it and many have failed.
