    Just an FYI for anyone attempting this (1) pick a shade lighter than what you want because compromised hair takes color much darker; (2) use conditioner on the rest of the hair so that when you wash off the color, it will not bleed on to the rest of the hair. Stylist don't want to do this because it's too much work for them, they feel like they are doing an extra service and not charging for it, I've had them say this to me.

    • @alexlefay
      @alexlefay 2 года назад +7

      That's what I did, and instead of the darker blond I expected becuase of damaged hair, I got a golden blonde that it's not doing anything to fix my roots and I'm back to square one!

      @pampassky 2 года назад +7

      That's why I don't trust hair stylist I do my hair at home they want you to pay them good money but they don't want to put in the little extra detail of work to make our hair look good

    Who's here after bleaching their hair during quarantine lol

  • @lpg8518

    I recently learned, that when you do this procedure in order for the color not to bleed on the rest of the hair, you need to cover the rest of the hair with conditioner. Just an FYI for the next time you do this. Also, with toners, if you do a one to one ratio, it makes the toner more intense.

  • @alexisconradi781

    I know this is an older video but anyone who may see this today, another way besides conditioner to protect the ends from getting toned from the brown, is spraying your blonde with water as you go! I’m a hairstylist!

  • @lpg8518
    @lpg8518 3 года назад +56

    My gosh, I feel your pain, I can't understand why it's so difficult for hairstylist to just do your roots. I'm with you, I've spent so much money and shown pictures and never get what I want only more damaged hair. So, quarantine is a good time to learn how to do your hair.

      Just happened to me today. Very explicit on blonde tone/color and root smudge. Both were done wrong and I left with a lot to more damage than I had before and color that I hate. 🤪

    • @jayneweaver8695

      what is astounding is the hairdresser AFTER they gave me 1. gray hair and said "I can't believe you don't think it is blonde" then waited over a year and the 2. next hair dresser, went in for blonde highlight, she suggested "depth" "a lowlight" and it turned out copper, then every time I washed my hair it turned more orange. BOTH demanded payment, both were rude when I didn't like my hair that I did not ask for...

    Thank you for this! I've watched what feels like thousands of videos trying to find a person who could do this as correctly as possible at home. I'm starting beauty school so I wanted to get my feet wet by doing my own hair and I watched so many professional hair stylist videos and they either don't do it on themselves, they don't explain it in a way I can understand, or they do it really badly (or what looks bad to me 😬). So thank you again!

    • @galbiller
      @galbiller  4 года назад +2

      Cheryl McGough Hi there, the demi permanent hair color has 2 oz in the tube so you use all of what’s in the tube and you measure 4 oz of the activating lotion (1:2 ratio) total of 6 oz together. I have a mixing bowl with measurements so what I do is first pour in 1 full 2 oz tube of hair color and then pour in the activating lotion which comes in a bottle until total formula reaches the 6 oz line in the measuring bowl.

      Hey! I've done it once without waiting for dark roots and the lady at sally's told me to mix the ashy color 7A with a 6N just in case so the hair won't turn green. And that mixture turned out fine for me, no green. But if you ever plan on dying all of your hair brown from blonde, never do it without something called a filler (something that adds pigments), i've never done it so not sure how it works but even if you choose to dye all your hair brown with a non ashy color (like a 6N or 7N) it can still turn your hair muddy. But everytime I go and do the shadow root at the salon it also turns out a lot better than when i do it myself.

    So after the Demi permanent color comes out from the root smudge when would you re bleach your hair so it stays quite blonde? Thanks

    • @galbiller
      @galbiller  4 года назад +1

      The color came out in about a month and a half- 2 months and I highlighted my hair at the salon after about 2 months from making this video. Now my hair looks great (back to my highlighted blonde, yay!) and I think maybe I should just stick with the salon (personally), it just always comes out better than when I do it myself. I noticed that after the color came out, it left kind of a lighter color on my root, it didn't totally come out as its supposed to, it left a certain tone on my natural root, but my hairstylist said don't worry the new highlights would cover them.

    Ur NOT LYING! I'm from LA and moved to Dallas. I went to 3 different salons where they swore they could do so much happen but couldn't even lift my hair to a level 5 im a level 8 naturally. The other salon I asked for highlights and even that they weren't able to do. I paid more than my vacation to Cancun to fix it as best I could and and buy treatments to get my hair back to soft, thick, and shiny. I've given up on Salons here tbh. I'm just waiting to either go to NY or when we go back to visit LA.

    Question for you. In this video you use a 7a and I see yo brush it down onto the blonde a bit, I’ve heard ash can turn blonde hair green, did that not happen to you. Also did you tone it after?

    • @galbiller
      @galbiller  4 года назад +1

      Hi, yes I used a 7a. When I bought the hair color I asked that same question and they said that since I’m only doing the root I will be fine and I should wash it off very quickly with cold water. My hair didn’t turn green, but I did have some kind of grayish tint to my blonde hair, it wasn’t that noticeable though ( as if it toned it). I did not use toner after, since my blonde hair wasn’t very brassy.

      I've heard it can make it look muddy, thats why I washed the hair dye off as quick as possible in cold water, so my blonde hair wont turn muddy. I consulted with the ladys at the store and they told me to use a 7A, only on my roots and wash off quickly with cold water. I'm not a professional though, I just do what they recommended at sallys, and they told me what to buy....if the roots are blonde they tell me to add a 6A (or whatever level is closest to your roots).
