I’m also deep in the RUclips video archives to try and learn how to build a teardrop trailer, and randomly happened upon your build. Great work detailing your journey so far. Incredible that you undertook the task of welding your own frame. Can’t wait for your release of the build plans!
Well that was interesting. Incredible you took on that welding after only 2 classes. It shows. Some of them welds look a little dubious. But solid. I don't think it will be a problem but if I were you I would regularly inspect them. There is a lot of stress on the trailer taking all those backroads. I am building my own trailer too and chose to have a structural frame with 2x1 channel iron. Mine has to be as light as possible bc I want to tow it with an EV. Same design, 5x8 with similar tongue but with a regular 2000# axle. I hope the whole trailer will weigh in at less then 800#. Btw what does your trailer weigh. Did you ever have it on the scales? Nice vid , Thumbs up.
Thank you for the comment. Yes, I only took 2 lessons, I also practiced with some small pieces at home. I finally managed to get it on a scale, it is 1,700 lbs loaded. I was hoping under 1,500 lbs. Many factors contributed to my total weight: 37" wheels with fenders, tongue box, roof rack & solar and full insulation. Good luck with your build. It's an amazing experience for sure.
I'm not an expert on ATVs, but if I understand your question correctly, an ATV typically doesn't have the towing capacity needed to pull a teardrop camper safely. These campers are generally designed to be towed by vehicles with more power and stability."

Corrections:
02:08 I measured it. The total height is 79", so we're good.
04:01 The tongue length is 50 inches, NOT 15".
Nide video. Thanks very much.
Thank you too
