- An amazing evening spent at Leighton Buzzard on the West Coast Mainline where we see no end of services from London Northwestern Railway, Avanti West Coast, Southern and freight from Freightliner, GBRF, DB Cargo UK and Royal Mail.
The station was opened by the London and Birmingham Railway in 1838 and was simply known as Leighton, the line had been planned to go through Buckingham but this was opposed by the Duke of Buckingham which forced the line to head east through Linslade. The original line was dual track.
In 1848 the station became a junction when the branch line to Dunstable was opened. This was used by freight and passenger traffic, the freight traffic would typically take animals from Dunstable and bring them to Leighton Buzzard where they would be unloaded and taken up into the high street for the local market. Freight traffic was introduced to the line in 1859 when the London and Northwestern Railway acquired the line to build a new station and incorporate a freight yard known as Wing Yard. The new station was located 160 metres to the south of the old station. This is now the current site of the station. The station used to have 2 signal boxes, the northern signal box controlled access to the branch line and the signal box to the south of the station was used for the actual control of the signals for the line, yes I know that doesn't make any sense what so ever but it seemed to work for them at the time.
In 1927 the LMS (London Midland and Scottish Railway) had created a cross over junction for the slow and fast lines. By this time the line had been made into 4 lines because of the amount of traffic running along the line, this was to play a major role in the first major train crash at Leighton Buzzard in 1931 when a driver on-board Royal-scot hit the cross over at 50-60 mph when he was actually supposed to take it at 15mph, 6 people died that day including the driver and the fireman as the loco turned over as it hit the junction.
In 1957 to 1958 the station buildings were rebuilt and a new concrete awning was constructed over the platforms, at the entrance to the station there was a new booking/waiting hall, central heating, electric lighting and a cycle storage area.
In 1967 Wing Yard was closed to freight traffic following the closure of the Dunstable branch line. The yard is now the car park which you see during the entirety of the film.
In 1989 the station went through a £1.8million make over which also included the platforms being lengthened to accommodate 12 car trains.
The latest change to this station was the removal of the old footbridge that would allow you to cross the station without having to go through the station building. So you could walk from Southcourt Avenue to the park behind the car park.
My next rush hour film will be from Linslade just up the line from here.
If you have any stations or trackside locations you would like to see covered for a rush hour film please do let me know and I will see what I can do.

I always love coming to this station as it holds so many special memories for me as a kid

@@Tornado922 you're very welcome
Brilliant video legend tornado I was enjoy watch your videos rush hour are my favourite
Thanks very much bud
As ever yet another excellent video, you're sense of humour cracks me up. Thank you for making my day 😂😂😂🤣🤣 hilarious announcements of various railway rolling stock movements in and out of your home town, Leighton Buzzard. Accents, smelly breaks, blood splatter on the door handle, muck and mess on the rear of class 350, personal monologue of jokes. A speciality of redhaired people who are noted for their sense of humour.🤗🤗🤗🤗
thanks ever so much I'm glad you enjoyed watching this, I had a great time getting this all put together as I always do :)
Great rush hour film at Leighton bizzard plenty of freight
Thanks very much, Leighton Buzzard is always a great station to come to for rush hour films. To be honest most stations on the West Coast Mainline offer great viewing during the evening rush hour period
Eyyyyy My Local Station, amazing!
I always love coming here
another fantastic video J really enjoyed i could listen to you all day long with your pigeons and that woderful waffle you so woderfully churn out love it , and wow how many 390s did you sing out it must of been half the fleet giving it what for mmm
brilliant keep em coming my friend can't wait for your next one . Stay safe matey A T B Syd :)
Thanks very much Syd :) I'm glad you enjoy the endless waffle that I produce haha, if I stayed there any longer I would have probably caught the whole fleet haha
Couldn't have timed this better I'll be there on Thursday
I hope you had a great time
I see you caught the pink 66! Plenty of variety to be seen indeed! We're due to be away in Chania, Crete from 31st August-14th September, so I might as well mention that as you did mention that you were going to be going to Nottingham on 05.02.2022 before postponing the visit and of course my hope is getting to see you again sometime! I'll look forward to both Linslade and Kings Sutton next though! 222005 and 222006 are now five cars, with 222101, 222102, 222103 and 222104 now five cars. Two coaches from 222005 and 222006 respectively were removed, with 222101, 222102, 222102, 222103 and 222104 gaining the coaches respectively to form five car units. 222104 has the allover East Midlands Railway livery... well it did completely but it now being five cars long means that it's got an interim East Midlands Railway liveried coach in it from 222006! Yes I know! I can hardly believe it myself! Do keep an eye out for it whenever you venture out onto the Midland Mainline!
I hope you have a great time over in Crete, it's a place I have always wanted to go to. I will be getting Nottingham done at some stage I'm just not sure when that will be
@@Tornado922 OK sir! I will certainly be available when we come back, so I'll be happy to meet again sometime then!
We have bets (with Smarties) on who can guess the time when "former Trans-Pennine class 350" is first mentioned, assuming class 350's make an appearance at the location. 9m 55s this time. I lost :(
A thousand apologies ;)
6:44 66726 was working from London Gateway to East Midlands Gateway
Thanks for letting me know!
Voyagers 8:05 8:45 was the best sound of the voyager 14:16 16:04
390125 has the new Avanti interior which they are changing all of the 390's to.
I have yet to see the new interior myself
0:49 There's an ice cream van by me with that tune.
Same
same. I want a Cornetto now.
Hi buddy from Alan in Lowestoft
6:40
I Like The West Coast Main Line
Same
It's a great mainline to film on
Them Maersk containers get more battered every video haha
They are always in a right state haha
From what ive heard Southern will run as far as Hemel Hempstead but most will terminate at Watford Junction. Correct if im wrong
As far as my understanding goes they are only running up to Watford Junction
@@Tornado922 according to wiki most terminate at watford junction with 2 trains per day going up to Hemel Hempstead. 1tph from Watford Junction to Clapham Junction but some go through to East Croydon
Avanti West Coast and LNWR yes, but what about Southern?
edit: has Covid made Southern cut their East Croydon - Milton Keynes Central service to Clapham Junction - Watford Junction service?
also edit: I love playing around with accents too!
Southern are now only running as far as Watford Junction, no idea as to why this is the case as it was a really handy service to have if you wanted to get to other parts of London without having to go to London Euston and then get the rube across the city. I think the accents will be here to stay haha
@@Tornado922 ugh to the cutback, yes to the accents
Awesome Video as always! Thank you!
Why is Avanti running diesel-powered Voyagers between LD Euston und Bmg New Street? Isn't that line fully electrified?
Greetings from Germany! :-)
It is fully electrified, but some services to and from Birmingham New Street and London Euston can be operated by Avanti Voyagers.
Thanks very much, they run quite a few services 'under the wires' as they usually end up continuing onwards to destinations that can only be served by diesel trains. Although they do run services that can be covered by a 390 a lot of times

Could you please do a rush hour trains at Reading, Swindon & Oxford
I can do Oxford, but the others would not be able to get done unfortunately. The only way I can do it is to take a day off work in order to get to them in enough time to do a rush hour film
Look out for 390124
Rush hour trains at Prestonpans please
Unfortunately that's never going to happen. I don't live in Scotland
Hi Tornado922. Great rush hour film at Leighton Buzzard. At 6:42, I loved the 4-tone from 66726 and great 2-tone from 66587 at 29:14 as well. Correct information for you: at 8:50, the Avanti Super Voyager service from Birmingham New Street was 221104 & 221110. Also, at 14:45, 390124 was the Avanti service from Blackpool North, which was the same 390 that returned at 39:27, bound for Liverpool Lime Street. Keep your 'Trains at' films coming. I have subscribed to your channel as I have loved watching your films ever since you uploaded your first one. I just need to hear the words "... and there's a pigeon." I always laugh when they get in on the act in every film. Love it! I'm a massive train fan too. Looking forward to next rush hour film at Linslade. Kind regards, Chris.
Thanks ever so much for the added information bud it is greatly appreciated and thank you for being a subscriber of my channel it really does mean a lot to me! I think it's safe to say that pigeons will always be making regular appearances throughout all of my films!
Its always 390 114. Its in most west coast mainline videos 20:25
I think we can now claim 390114 as my stalker for Avanti haha

Can you do a rush hour trains at Milton Keynes Central
I will be getting that done soon
wait does real-time trains pick up freight services?
yes
10:57
11:01 325015 is in the middle
Thanks for letting me know
I wanna know why they were mashing on the brakes so hard lol
I can only assume it was because of traffic passing over Ledburn Junction just a mile or so up the line so the Avanti services had to be pretty lively on the brakes haha
PIDGEONS !!
...or pigeons?
Can you spot at apsley pls
I will see what I can get done for you
When can you next go to kings Sutton
I already have a film out from there
tornado 922 where's Leighton buzzard ?
I ain't him but it is between Bletchley & Cheddington on WCML- a decent sized town around 15 miles south of Milton Keynes
South of MK
hello tornado922 how are you doing my mate please let me know kinds cheers?
I'm doing very well thanks, how are you?
Your still mad in your videos buddy but good
I think I always will be haha
To be honest this is the worst station ive ever seen in my life
And why would that be?
@@Tornado922 bc its bad capacity not good arrival trains and the station is so bad
