I’m pretty sure it being “the biggest stadium in the world” is propaganda. Considering all the events it’s hosts honoring “the great leaders”, and if they want to boast about large crowd sizes at those events, saying you have the largest stadium in the world would help with that.
I’m no expert but just looking at it, in my personal opinion I’d say it’s capacity is really something around 85k-95k

Think I spent the whole flight to porto telling me dad how good the stadium was and how excited i was to see a game there. As soon as we got inside his first words to me were “I’m not a fan” 😂

I got to watch Scotland play Portugal at Het Kasteel during the Women’s Euros in 2017. Nice stadium, shame about the result. The stadium that stands out for me from that trip though was Go Ahead Eagles’ place in Deventer. I ended up having to message a friend of mine who was a fan of that club to ask where the loos were. “Ah, you found out!”, she said. Turns out there was one. UEFA had had to bring in portaloos. She also asked if they’d played the Tartan Army Song before the game, which they had. Apparently a Thing at Go Ahead Eagles. The result of that match, against Spain, was far better, but too late.

There was an abandoned/disused stadium in Warsaw with a name that was hard to pronounce even by Polish standards. For years it was a flea market selling all kinds of stuff and most of the traders were from former Soviet republics. I think the place was rebuilt and renamed for the Euros when Poland was joint host.

We laugh at it, as it is a ridiculous attempt of copying the one in Rio de Janeiro. It’s hideous, located in a hideous spot (the view is ok but that’s it). Absolutely nobody in Portugal would consider it an attraction. It’s embarassing!
