Notts County not even being in the Football League is insane tbh - they should be at least Championship if they were run properly but alas they haven't been - remember the whole Sven/Korea affair - what a clusterf#ck that was! Maybe one day they'll get a decent owner who will pump some money in and run it properly - be great to see such a historic club in the big leagues playing Forest in the Nottingham Derby.
Love your vids. 🙂 Sadly there seems to be a correlation between clubs and their region. If their region slumps economically there is a large likelihood teams will follow that pattern. Liverpool and Mcr have bucked that trend but overall seems to be proved. Incidently Peter Withe'sname is pronounced "With".😉 He has a distinctive "Scouse" accent. 🙂 When in Mcr, did you visit the site of the Royal Hotel where the Football League was formed or the site of the 1893 F.A. Cup final between Everton & Wolverhampton Wanderers in Fallowfield? Thanks once again. 👍⚽️
Yes of course as midlanders we want our teams to be doing better and our time will come again!!! Great vid as always shame Shrewsbury didn’t get a mention
Great video, Sam. What Nottingham Forest achieved in the late 70's/early 80's was phenomenal. When Clough and Taylor arrived in 1975 the club was a mid-table Second Division club. All the clubs featured have a proud history.
Great video. Birmingham were actually the first British club in history to play a major European final. The final was contested over two legs in 1960 against FC Barcelona. Unfortunately we lost 4-1 in The Camp Nou (Typical Blues). We reached the final the following year in 1961, becoming the first British club to beat Inter Milan in The San Siro along the way, once again were defeated over two legs (4-2) by AS Roma in The Stadio Olimpico. We don’t have the trophies a lot of other Midlands clubs have, but we were pioneers for British football in terms of the European game. Great Video, enjoyed it.

Only just found this video (I was at MK Dons game, love the vid 😉). How times have changed for Villa since this video was filmed. Nothing short of amazing since the appointment of Emery. As for the Champions League final, not only clubs from the same countries played in it. In 2014, clubs from the same city played against each other in the Champions League final. Really good point about the Madrid sides. Both from the same city, a derby final! I also remember Porto v Braga in the UEL final a few years back. Norwich and Ipswich in Europe again and in the Champions League within two years, whaaddaya say ? All very well the history and roots - but there are other incredible stories. Marlow FC, down south near Wycombe, are the only club to have been in every single FA Cup - they were formed in 1870 and the FA cup started in 1871. They have a 93 year old main stand, bought from Southampton. Yarmouth Town have the oldest 'Grandstand' left in all of Britain ( they need a football club way higher for that history and town size ). Cheers.
Never really fascinated with football history until I saw this video. I have always found history interesting but watching this made me realise that it also is a part of pride of the area for decades and even a century. Great last few words there before ending the video. Nowadays you can just see fans around the world fancying the players rather than the identity of a club. You don't just pick a badge and cheer when they win, but you also sing and fight for your club.
the midlands is a footballing hotbed full of great historic clubs as this video illustrates well, i think it's so important for young fans to know something about football history, currently there are are about 5 premier league clubs who've won absolutely no major trophies, brighton, bournemouth, palace, fulham and brentford, of course the fact these clubs are in the top flight is incredible and shows that fortunes can go up as well as down, west brom are a massive club far bigger than many current premier league clubs but that's the beauty of the english game(even now) fortunes fluctuate, i don't like the way the game has gone, i have myriad criticisms but i still love football and i love the history of the game, very enjoyable video

You were at King Power Stadium, the old ground, Filbert Street is right next to the new ground. Coventry Building Society Stadium could be in doubt as the home of Coventry City due to the collapse of Wasps RUFC. Great video, but don't forget about Burton Albion and Shrewsbury Town. Shrewsbury is classed as West Midlands. Also, there is Telford United of the National League North
Nice work Sam. Really interesting look at these clubs. I guess they all have different reasons for their problems. Great to see the statue of Tony Brown. Always enjoyed watching him play and wonder how he escaped the clutches of the Manchester clubs. Terrific volleyer of the ball and a super, all round player.

Always think of West and East Midlands as different football regions. East Midland clubs have won 4 League titles - all since 1972, West Midland clubs won 11 League titles.
Great to hear you’re looking to do a separate video on the “Three Degrees”. Sensational players that I grew up watching on the telly. Sorry Cyrille is no longer with us, and Laurie was taken far too young. At least we still have Brendon. That green and yellow kit was iconic…
You could also add that even though we didn't win it Blues were the first ever English team in a European final and actually reached it a year after losing to Barcelona and Roma respectively.
Would definitely love a Wolves deep dive from you... always love your videos. Interestingly you mentioned about winning all the domestic leagues, and I think only Burnley are the team to have done that too (who we had a big rivalry with back in the day as the 2 most successful clubs in England at the time). I think I am right in saying though, we are the ONLY team to have won ALL the possible domestic honours available (All the divisions, Charity Shield, FA Cup, League Cup and EFL Trophy (Sherpa Van when we won it). Oh, and Billy Wright was also the first centurion of English football :) There's a lesser known belief that Wolves' Premier league struggles this year have been because his statue is cordoned off during match days now - and many many fans have a superstition of touching that statue before the kick off (for good luck) and the inability to be able to touch it is affecting our luck... lol
Another awesome video, I love your passion and enthusiasm for football, it's awesome, I know 2 clubs that are older than notes county which are classed as football clubs but a different type of football
Sam you should definitely try and make a series about these historic teams. You mentioned at 22:22 how “this video is about the formation of football”. I immediately thought of you doing a series titled “The Formation of Football” or some other title where you travel throughout England visiting historic clubs like you usually do already but more in de the like you also do at times. It could be focused in the Midlands and the founding clubs there or even bigger and equally as historic clubs like Liverpool and Arsenal as well. Hopefully your sponsors can help you out!
Great video mate. But you forgot to mention Birmingham City were the 1st Englush club to reach a European cup final and it was 2 years running losing in both final to Barcelona and Millan.
Haven’t watched the full video but going on the title and the first 5 mins why didn’t Mansfield get a mention currently 3 points off top 3 missed out in promoting in last 2 season also in Nottinghamshire and about notts county
I love Mansfield! They're a great club. Only reason I didn't revisit them for this one is because I was there a few weeks back - check this out! ruclips.net/video/JKAU5my4d2U/видео.html

I feel like Coventry got a raw deal here. It’s a huge club with huge history. I flying visit and the badge isn’t even in the thumbnail. Very disappointing.
Blues may not have the trophies to show our history but we were the first British team to play in an European final and first British team to beat inter at the san siro and we sold the first 1 million pound player
must correct you on villa, we have multi billionaire owners. nassef sawiris, who’s a shareholder in adidas, and wes edens, co-owner of milwaukee bucks, have an overall net worth of around $11.5 billion. that makes them some of the richest owners in european football.
That Villa 81/2 team was heavily Merseyside influenced; Rimmer, Swain, Mortimer, Morley & Withe as well as Ron Saunders all born there. (Ken McNaught & Pat Heard had also joined from Everton a few years prior).
You are right next to our old ground mate, Filbert Street is just a pile of rubble across the road from the King Power now. You probably seen it and didn't realise.
Great content.. I love your content.. How you travel around. I feel you need an identity for your channel.. People should be on your channel! This is brilliant stuff. Maybe its time for an intro video. Make it short and sweet! Keep it up mate!
Notts County fans are very proud of the fact that they have won more promotions than Forest (13-10). But for some reason they never mention their 17 relegations.
Leicester used to play pretty stuff in the early 70s with Worthington..Glover..Weller.Birchenall but were a bit lightweight to compete at the top.The old ground had a great atmosphere with the crowd close to the pitch. The best ground for cramming them in next to the pitch was the old Baseball Ground. How they got 40 thou in there was a miracle.
Frank Worthington, a great player and a delight to watch his skill with a ball. I'm a Villa fan but still could appreciate his talent even when he played for Birmingham city. Fibert st had a great atmosphere in the games I saw there, back in the day.
If you could, maybe take a look of the fall of us (Portsmouth FC). I was born in 2004 and we went into crisis in 2008 (I think) so it will be interesting. I’m hoping we’ll be back in the prem in about 5 years
At the rate we're going, we'll still be in league 1 or lower in 5 years! 🤣🤣 the prem was great for a couple of seasons, but it did get boring once the novelty wore off. Plus it attracts a lot of plastic fans. The promotion season of 2002/03 was where the real excitement was!!
@@mk1aquatic739 fair enough. Still very early on in the season though. We don’t need plastic fans as we’ve got loyal fans unlike Man City and Man United etc. who are mostly plastic fans but we’ve stuck through the hard times and hopefully this Is our season
@@s125ish people who only support a particular club when times are really good, buy shirts etc, never or hardly ever go to games, have little or no knowledge of the history of that club and then casually drop that club when times aren't so good...think that's covered it!

UEFA Cup 1980: Final Borussia Mönchengladbach - Eintracht Frankfurt Another fun fact about the UEFA Cup: the year before, the semi final was contested by three German clubs: Borussia Mönchengladbach (who won it), Hertha BSC Berlin, and MSV Duisburg (look up MSV Duisburg: founding members of the Bundesliga in 1963, vice champions in the inaugural season after 1. FC Köln; they have always been my favourite German team, have never won any trophy, and are plying their trade nowadays in the 3rd Division of German football; how the f**k were they able to get into the semi-final of the UEFA Cup?)
that's the sad part about football today "if they had a Saudi billionaire owner", football isn't about the fans anymore or even about the game itself its about money, how are teams in the football league even going to dream about staying in the first division anymore let alone win it. football used to mean something and showed how anyone could get anywhere with enough work but now it is about the money and who has the richest owners and I despise it. horrible what the premier league has done to what was once known as the beautiful game
Hiya Sam, the bigger clubs were going to catch up the midlands clubs sooner or later, even Trevor Francis said "You'll never see the likes of Forest winning the champions league, them days have long gone" what do you think off Stevie G getting the sack, I can see Stevie G going back to Rangers, Stevie done a terrific job up there, this is Choppy in Whitehaven, Cumbria, England
@@matthancock260 that’s an absurd comment. He broke the world transfer fee & scored the winner in a European cup final. Think he was alright at football.
Leicester will stay up, mark my words, shaky start, yes. We have a new number 1 in goal, Danny Ward, only ever came on for European / Cup games at lower levels. Kasper set records for the most consecutive appearances in goal for Leicester. Danny never had a chance, now he is number 1 he needs to get upto speed with the challenges he faces playing in the PL, and after a few weeks and quite a few losses, he is infact started to show progress and keep clean sheets. We will stay up, it will take time and a few hits along to way, but it will happen.
Forest aren’t a great surprise, but, the others are, being honest. Maybe Nuno should go back ? I thought he was tremendous at his time there for a great while, football management can be brutal. As for Leicester? Still some great players at the club, and, Brendan doesn’t suddenly become a bad manager, and think the problems run deeper? It’s a strange one.
is Lincoln and Lincolnshire near the midlands? i like how Lincoln city (fc) are doing in a way as a club in League one We all want to see Wrexham A.F.C. and Notts county get promoted Notts Forest current manager Steve cooper did good for them 😊
I'm thinking wolves will end up not getting relegated they've had some unfortunate injuries and still havent gotten it together. Their biggest issue is lots of goal scoring opportunities but they arent actually getting the goals. With the new manager coming I think they will get it turned around
Give the guy a break, a lot of effort goes into making these videos and it's impossible to cover every team. Why don't you cover these teams and out it on RUclips? I'd watch it.

you already visited Filbert Street tbf , the student accommodation across the road from the KP is the site of the old filbert street,
Always think of West and East Midlands as different football regions. East Midland clubs have won 4 League titles - all since 1972, West Midland clubs won 11 League titles.
Three days on the same video is a superb effort Sam. Hard work paying off
This one was a slog to get finished haha! The editing was a killer. Back to some shorter videos soon!
Great video as always. CL final 08 Man Utd vs Chelsea. UTA
Great to hear you’re looking to do a separate video on the “Three Degrees”. Sensational players that I grew up watching on the telly. Sorry Cyrille is no longer with us, and Laurie was taken far too young. At least we still have Brendon.
That green and yellow kit was iconic…
When will I see you again
Amazing to see you cover my club! (West Brom) Love your vids mate.
Thanks for including Walsall - great video UTS 👍🏻
Would love to see notts county back up there⚫️⚪️
Me too! Hopefully soon!
@@FootyAdventures you need to come down for a game sometime. When the fans are up for it there’s not many grounds in England better
You could also add that even though we didn't win it Blues were the first ever English team in a European final and actually reached it a year after losing to Barcelona and Roma respectively.
Great work sam from a baggie top video
Great watch mate, should give Shrewsbury and Telford a look when you get a chance also part of the Midlands
Oh, and Billy Wright was also the first centurion of English football :) There's a lesser known belief that Wolves' Premier league struggles this year have been because his statue is cordoned off during match days now - and many many fans have a superstition of touching that statue before the kick off (for good luck) and the inability to be able to touch it is affecting our luck... lol
love your passion brother ... really enjoy your videos man.
Really in depth video! Loved it 👌🏼
Another awesome video, I love your passion and enthusiasm for football, it's awesome, I know 2 clubs that are older than notes county which are classed as football clubs but a different type of football
Would love to see an episode on the mighty West Country or Southern England in general soon, this was absolutely class! 🙌
My dad played for Notts county many years ago under Big Sam
Amazing vidéo ;)
You missed Mansfield Town mate, Field Mill oldest football stadium
Who?
A similar video for Yorkshire teams would be fascinating
Thought this was a great video sam! Great work as always.
Because regardless of division you and chesterfield are always in our shadows.
@@ethanbrettbarnhill1436 and who’s that then 😂 cos it can’t be derby there wank and I don’t mind forest and county are league below and irrelevant😂
as a kid i remember the baggies touring china ,in the 70s and parts of the old ussr ,that 70s early 80s team was full of talent ,,the midlands has got alot of rich history with football
Well, yer sin wun wall, yer sin 'em all ain't ya.
Great Video Footy! Dudley! Please settle an argument, what team do the people of Dudley generally support?
West Brom
Hiya Gary, I've got family in Dudley, one half of the family supports West Brom the other half supports Wolverhampton Wanderers, but none supports Aston Villa, this is Choppy in Whitehaven, Cumbria, England
Come to Walsall game this season.
must correct you on villa, we have multi billionaire owners. nassef sawiris, who’s a shareholder in adidas, and wes edens, co-owner of milwaukee bucks, have an overall net worth of around $11.5 billion. that makes them some of the richest owners in european football.
That Villa 81/2 team was heavily Merseyside influenced; Rimmer, Swain, Mortimer, Morley & Withe as well as Ron Saunders all born there. (Ken McNaught & Pat Heard had also joined from Everton a few years prior).
Thank you for filming in landscape. The old lady nailed it Sky has ruined football I agree with her
You are right next to our old ground mate, Filbert Street is just a pile of rubble across the road from the King Power now.
@@johncregg1159 Back in the day I used to like Ray Graydon and Chico Hamilton
@@mk1aquatic739 what are plastic fans
@@s125ish people who turn up for the good times but fuck off for the bad times

Just to add another first, Birmingham were the first English team to play in Europe.
1st English team to win at the San siro and reach the final of inter city fairs cup.
As a kid I thought Villa’s Gary Shaw was amazing. I used to try and imitate his skills.
Birmingham City’s Davo is produces some great videos of the brilliant blue nose fans. They really make it! They are really true and loyal supporters.
KRO!!!!!!!!
🦊 Leicester City have a (joint) record of second division titles alongside Manchester City
🦊 Gordon banks was playing for Leicester City when England won the World Cup in 1966 🏆
🦊 Arthur Rowley holds the record for the most goals in the history of English league football, scoring 434 from 619 league games. 250+ of which came at Leicester
The peaky blinders where at West Brom vs Watford as they where West Brom fans.
No They Where Blues Fans
UEFA Cup 1980: Final Borussia Mönchengladbach - Eintracht Frankfurt
Another fun fact about the UEFA Cup: the year before, the semi final was contested by three German clubs: Borussia Mönchengladbach (who won it), Hertha BSC Berlin, and MSV Duisburg (look up MSV Duisburg: founding members of the Bundesliga in 1963, vice champions in the inaugural season after 1. FC Köln; they have always been my favourite German team, have never won any trophy, and are plying their trade nowadays in the 3rd Division of German football; how the f**k were they able to get into the semi-final of the UEFA Cup?)
that's the sad part about football today "if they had a Saudi billionaire owner", football isn't about the fans anymore or even about the game itself its about money, how are teams in the football league even going to dream about staying in the first division anymore let alone win it. football used to mean something and showed how anyone could get anywhere with enough work but now it is about the money and who has the richest owners and I despise it. horrible what the premier league has done to what was once known as the beautiful game
i lost count; how many cups have midlands clubs won against spurs?
Its like its mirroring the state of the country as a whole.
Wolves usually let people in the doors opposite the billy wright statue to look at all the trophy’s
Another way to look at it is that, there are so many Midlands teams in the PL. Could be in the lower league. Count yourselves lucky 👍🏾
Would love u to come to dundee v Morton and I would sit in the south enclosure as that’s were our new ultras stand. 👍
I would happily take you round the old filbert street
Its Peter with, with an e
Peter withe who also payed for Birmingham and forest
95% to do with the influence of big money with the northern and London clubs
Wolves are the reason champions league exists 🐺🧡🖤
It was William Mcgregor Villa's chairman's idea that instigated the the formation of the league.
No derby in the thumbnail? Shocking that
Hiya Sam, the bigger clubs were going to catch up the midlands clubs sooner or later, even Trevor Francis said "You'll never see the likes of Forest winning the champions league, them days have long gone" what do you think off Stevie G getting the sack, I can see Stevie G going back to Rangers, Stevie done a terrific job up there, this is Choppy in Whitehaven, Cumbria, England
🤣🤣 I love how he was like Trevor Francis what a player but he doesn't know anything about him quality
Trevor Francis wouldn’t even be a legend in his prime at a club like Wolves, let alone Villa 🤣
@@matthancock260 matt hancock your still alive i thought you was dead
@@matthancock260 that’s an absurd comment. He broke the world transfer fee & scored the winner in a European cup final. Think he was alright at football.
Good job predicting Aston Villa's fate this season.
We will stay up, it will take time and a few hits along to way, but it will happen.
hmmmm, about that.
When are you visiting Grimsby Town?
is Lincoln and Lincolnshire near the midlands?
i like how Lincoln city (fc) are doing in a way as a club in League one
We all want to see Wrexham A.F.C. and Notts county get promoted
Notts Forest current manager Steve cooper did good for them 😊
It's Nottingham Forest & Notts County!
@@chocoholic832 Notts Forest are doing ok now

PUSB: Up the Sky Blues.
I'm thinking wolves will end up not getting relegated they've had some unfortunate injuries and still havent gotten it together. Their biggest issue is lots of goal scoring opportunities but they arent actually getting the goals. With the new manager coming I think they will get it turned around
Up the Baggies x We'll be back.
And who's Peter White lol???
you did not do Halesowen town, Stourbridge, ley, Kidderminster
Shrewsbury, Telford and Stafford were forgot as well
Give the guy a break, a lot of effort goes into making these videos and it's impossible to cover every team. Why don't you cover these teams and out it on RUclips? I'd watch it.
The final form the same city in 2016 , Atletico Madrid - Real Madrid 1-1 after extra time, won by Real Madrid 5-3 after penalties.
WBA should just play in the Championship every year. They are the definition of a yoyo club.
