I Visited UEFA's Smallest Nation

- I visited Gibraltar to find out what football is like in UEFA's smallest nation (although Gibraltar itself is technically a part of Britain). The Victoria Stadium will soon be knocked down and rebuilt.
They play France soon and I interviewed one of their most capped players, Jayce Olivero.

Should I visit other "European Minnows"?
yeah you should
Of course! ⚽️
100% yes
Iceland next.
Of course yeah good friend Sam,one of those is Luxembourg 🇱🇺 !!!:-D
That was great, Sam. How about visiting the Channel Islands?
Here's an interesting European minnow you can explore. Ethnikos Achna FC plays in the Cypriot Second Division, but used to be in the top division, has won the Cypriot Cup twice and even won the Intertoto in 2006. They represent the village of Achna, which was originally a tent village in the forest for refugees from the 1974 Turkish invasion. However, get this: Achna is in Northern Cyprus (Turkish run), though they are Greek Cypriot refugees, and their stadium is in Akrotiri and Dhekelia which is that part of Cyprus that is part of Britain. So, basically, they are Greek Cypriots, living in Turkish Cyprus, playing in British Cyprus, and in spite of their hardships and tiny population, they won the Intertoto Cup and the Cypriot Cup. Surely worth a visit (I've never been there, but it's on my own personal bucket list!)
This is amazing please go Sam!
Shout mate
*immediately downloads Football Manager database for Cyprus*
I visited Gibraltar last year and it was the best experience ever! I even managed to catch a league while I was there. I couldn't figure out how much are the tickets and where to buy them so I thought I just get them at the ground. I couldn't see any ticket office or anything like that so I just made my way inside. Gate wide open, no stewards... turns out the game's actually free! It was a unique experience and will definitely be coming back! I absolutely love the place!
My heart was in my mouth when that toddler ran towards that monkey. Obviously his father has no clue how violent those hairy little cants can be. Thankfully the monkey wasn't harmed.
Bruh 🤣
Rabbiebhoy:
Don't try to be politically correct!!
It's the other way around YOU KNOW THAT FULL WELL !!
Agreed mate and i live here.. was at the Lincoln red imps match 🙈
Mate, im from gib and live here now, great to see someone like you cover a video on our countries national team.
Great video as always 👍🏻
I watch some
Gibraltar National League games on You Tube.
I am from Scotland.
My club I follow in
Gibraltar is Europa Point
not the best of seasons.
ai tamo alexxxxxx
Visited Gibraltar many times whilst serving in the Navy and it is still 1 of my favourite places to visit. To anyone visiting and looking for a place to drink Bruno’s bar in Ocean Village where Gibraltars finest Bruno’s Magpies started ⚽️ 🇬🇮
Lived 2 years in Gibraltar whilst based in the RAF. Had the best time of my service life. When i first arrived the border was closed for cars, so i put my motorbike on the ferry across to Tangiers, and then on another to Algeciras, driving and parking my bike on the border of Spain. You probably didnt know that the saying is that if the monkeys ever leave Gibraltar, then Britain must give Gib back to the Spanish. In my time there was always an army Sgt, whose sole job was to look after the monkeys and make sure they reproduced. i simply loved Gibraltar, played football in that stadium, and cricket on the camp. Brilliant video that brought back super memories
Thank you for coming to Gibraltar and showing Gibraltar and its football. What a good video and such a suprise for me as a Gibraltarian subscriber.
Hi good friend Sam,welcome back to your channel and Gibraltar is one of my favourite respective countries daily and ever in this world and other planets, good friends!!!LONG LIVE GIBRALTAR AND GIBRALTAR FOOTBALL!!! 🇬🇮
Hero Depek, thanks for watching! I hope you're well!
@@FootyAdventures You are welcome, thanks for your care on me and I hope you too are well, good friend!!!🏋♂️
Please do a video of the Isle of Scilly Football League. It only has two teams that play each other 18 teams each season, on the same pitch. They also contest 2 cup competitions over 2 legs and have their own Charity Shield style game. To top it all off, at the start of each season, all the players are grouped together and the captains pick their squads, just to mix it up a little.
That's amazing haha
My dad lived in Gibraltar when he was a baby because my Grandad was in the navy. He said that it was a beautiful place and I can see why!
Bro, I like your videos. Especially when you visit non mainstream football destinations. Me as a Bosnian can recommend you the Sarajevo derby between FK Sarajevo and Zeljeznicar. The atmosphere will be great and you have also a lot to discover in Bosnians capital city. Greetings from Cologne (which you also visited already).
Great shout 🏴
Respect to that player you interviewed. Just a small nation but must mean so much to him to play for it! Could be a pioneer of their game!
The progression from peering over a fence at lower league sides to interviewing an international footballer is incredible
Great work!
Fantastic episode mate, I must say your 'minnows' tours are the best, really fascinating stuff.
I've been to Gibraltar and have watched league games there and it's always been a good experience, I also watch the matches live on the Gibraltar Football Association RUclips channel.
Great video. I visited GIB about ten years ago, and it remains near and dear to my heart. However, your statement at 3:37 made me chuckle.
“There is still a little bit of contention between Spain and the UK over this part of the land.”
Quite possibly the understatement of the year 😂
Considering that Spain have 2 city enclaves and a couple of islands in Morocco and refuse to cede them back to Morocco, I find their claims on Gibraltar somewhat ironic and hypocritical. But maybe it is just me.
Yes, Sam you are right - the Barbary Apes are the only wild primates found in Europe.
Great video 👍👍
This is honestly my favourite video you’ve ever done. I’ve been fascinated by Gibraltar for years and always wanted to go and make a video there myself! Great work Sam! 👊🏻
Went to Gibraltar last year with work, managed to catch Gib national team taking on North Macedonia & Bulgaria as well as the Gib U21 vs Bulgaria.
Also found several social clubs belonging to some of the clubs in Gib and also found the old Naval Grounds commemoration plaque for the old pitch at Campion Park. The Lions bar was class with a load of memorabilia on display.
Good to see the perspective from the Gibraltar player about the Nations League. So much better that smaller nations are grouped together to allow them to develop and experience some small success. I enjoyed watching highlights of these games too.
Fantastic scenery! Excellent video as usual.😊🇬🇧
Great vlog again.
We were in Gibraltar last month for a few days & walked past the stadium each day. There was always something going on inside, whether it was a match, training or kids playing.
Love Gibraltar and been a few times I also follow the football out there a proper emerging nation so much talent in the younger generations a big future for Gibraltar.
Superb content as usual, Sam. Well done.
Great vlog and travelmentary ✌️👍💙⚪
Amazing video! Have always been so interested in the National Team for Gibraltar, Such an intriguing story
05:41 I know all the teams in the FFAS Senior League (American Samoa) play in the same stadium in Pago Pago. Also, currently, all Andorran top flight teams play at the Aixovall Stadium in Andorra la Vella (FC Encamp, who have their own stadium, are currently in the Andorran Second Division, and FC Andorra, who play at the National Stadium in Andorra, plays in the Spanish pyramid and not in the Andorran pyramid so doesn't count either. So Andorra is another country, though this will change as soon as FC Encamp get promoted again to the top division.
Ah yes thank you Sam, I’ve been looking forward to this.
This was an absolutely TOP VIDEO. What a cracking idea to go to Gibraltar. Gib was acknowledged as being British by theTreaty of Utrecht in 1713 followingbthe War of Spanish Succession so 210 years and counting ... To put that into context, Spain only became a country when Castille united with Aragon in 1479 - so 234 years before the Treaty of Utrecht. In 24 years time Gib will have been British longer than it had been Spanish...!
A referendum was held in 2002 on a proposal that sovereignty over Gib should be shared.between the UK and Spain but by almost 99% the proposal was rejected by the Gibraltarians who therefore remain British. Only 187 voted Spain (1.03%).
Keep up the great videos!
Great choice of destination! 👍🏻 Very interesting, please visit more small countries 🙏🏻
Still Uk
I went there July 2022 for about a week it was one of my best holidays. Bagged myself a Gibraltar football shirt as well.
Great video's Sam, I watch a lot of your content during my free's at work (PE teacher in China) and you've made some exciting trips! I always learn something new watching! Ive always wondered what Gibraltar is like and you've encouraged me to fly out and have a look while Im back in the summer. Keep up the good work!
Excellent stuff, watch the Gibraltar League every week, so its great to see behind the scenes
I watch some games from
The Gibraltar National League
on You Tube.
Europa Point is the club I like the best.
@@alanfox691 Yes, I follow Europa Point too! Played as them on Football Manager and have been watching them since
Imagine getting up at 3/4 am every day and not even getting to watch football
Love seeing you living the dream Sam!
Thanks Joe, what a place to visit. I feel very lucky! Couldn't do it without your support so thanks again
My missus has family in Gibraltar! We visit most years, we actually go engaged on top of the rock, class place! And class video mate
Thanks for the video, really awesome, you've Just inspired me to do some travelling myself, also cool British accent
Cheers
Thanks mate!! Enjoy your travels ✈️
I am fortunate enough to live in Gib being originally from Manchester. Been here 12 years and there's no going back. :-)
I spent 2 years there with the RAF. Brilliant time and went all over southern Spain and Portugal/Morocco with my bike. Even rode the thing back to Santander and then from Plymouth back to Oxford. Loved Gibraltar and Gibraltar, me lol 😂
Congratulations on getting on Skysports mate. Anyone who deserves it is you for all your hard work. Well done Sam.
P.s be careful walking across the runway lol 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Ha ha saw my old house when you were at the cable car! Regret coming back to Scotland. Also stayed at the Hub this time last year on a quick visit back. Used to be a pub called the 3 roses that Celtic and Rangers fans watched the games. It shut and we had to run a celtic bus up the coast.
Great vlog Sam, as usual. I have to say though - you were really triggering my vertigo when you were leaning over the side of your balcony! 😬
Definitely think you should do more videos like this, such a great watch 👏
Great video and great access. Bucket list stadium for me so great to see it and also to learn that it's getting replaced soon. Best get my skates on!
Excellent feature as always Alex 👏
My dad stayed in spain for 30 yrs. A used to love getting a pint in Morrisons the supermarket. 😂 im not joking . A love youre vlogs. Hail hail from Glasgow
Another country that hosts all of their top league football matches in one stadium is Tuvalu
Respect bro doing this hard work every time!!❤😊
Amazing views would love to visit
I remember larne went there it was the best thing ever
Classic vid ....great memories playing at euro point against Gibraltar national team cricket 2000 we were sat birmingham park league👍👍👍👍
De Barr is the king of the Gibraltar national team plays for Wycombe Wanderers 🇬🇮
All teams in the mongolian premier league play their seasons matches in the same stadium in Ulaanbaatar... Been to a few matches.
“your a Mongol and you know you are”
i spent 3 days exploring Gibraltar 6 years ago. Loved it, so many stories for just a few days. At the time there was talk of using a pitch at the southern end as a new National Stadium. never happened
Rugby stadium at Europa Point end.. interestingly Spain blocked the application to World Rugby, unlike UEFA.
Think still some plans for a new football stadium around
Andorra, Liechtenstein, San Marino, Gibraltar, Faroe Islands, Luxembourg, Malta, Cyprus, Iceland,
All these 9 Nations have population's under 1 Million.
Don't all the teams in the Falklands play on the same pitch?
One strange thing - Gibralta is part of Britain, red postboxes etc., yet they drive on the right!
That's probably to do with Spain driving on the right
The scenery is amazing, I really Wales draw Gibraltar in the World Cup qualifiers, so I can go there!
I walked up the Rock when I first went as the queue for the cable car was too long, it took me 2 hours in 35 degrees and I got accosted by 3 monkeys on the way up, I was on my own and they blocked the steps, I had to wait it out! Amazing place
Gibraltar is an irredentist part of Spain. The Rock was leased to England as was Macau or Hong Kong some time ago. In the near future, sure the inhabitants of the Rock will seek eagarly to return to Spain and finish with this out of date situation. The Llanitos look more Spaniard than English, that seems true in part. But it is great to be (british) and the same time not to be (spaniard) and viceversa. We love each other (Spaniards, Brits and Llanitos) so much so it doesn't matter what feel or your are if you can be all at the same time.
Marriages, love and friendship are the answers to all questions. Aren't they?
Good luck to all!
Love Gibraltar🇬🇮🇬🇧
Fair play Sam very interesting place to.go
I have the best football team no cap, thanks bro
Sam there's a European Minnow you should cover. They're called KELTY HEARTS. Ever heard of them????
LOL.
Gibraltars airport is basically a big whssmith
5:22 What you are pointing at is a practice pitch... the stadium itself is further to the right, obscured by the Rock
Good video Sam
The Scottish cup final will be good 😊
15:30
There is a right-driving road outside Savoy hotel in London
Really hoping we get a gibratarian team in the Conference league qualifiers.
5:43 In Tuvalu all of the clubs in the top flight play in the same stadium as well if I am not mistaken
only been to Gibraltar once to have a nose about. Amazing place.
Maybe you should return to Gibraltar during their domestic season and watch some league games.
Did you fly direct from Scotland? Would love to visit there
You can fly direct from Edinburgh
I saw you on sky sports football Livingston vs Dundee United
I remember Celtic’s defeat to Lincoln Red Imps all to well. That was an embarrassment. Maybe on a par to the 5-0 defeat by Artmedia Bratislava.
I was there mate, horrendous as a celtic fan 😅
24:09 The Tim Traveller has also covered a San Marino match a few years ago.
Malta play all their domestic games in the national stadium.
England play Malta in June, that little island has rich British influenced football history. Even got a team called Hiberians on the island
Hi Sam loved loved this video on Gibraltar football 😍
My brother is off there soon so have sent it on to him as he is also a big fan of your work !
Do you have any pictures or info on what the new ground will look like ?
Cheers Dave C
I was there a few months ago, such a nice place
You are the main man .
I played in 2000 gib v minstrel taverners cricket we come from Birmingham great week drunk brummies
Lived here amazing place
You didn't even go to the Morrisons, you'll have to visit again haha
The National Stadium in Gibraltar reminds me of Gateshead Stadium. Athletic track and football combined
Gateshead Stadium is a horrible place to watch football, no atmosphere, if segregation is in force, home and away fans are so far apart
Andorra is one of the UEFA minnows.
Maidenhead is right on the train tracks and they have been at the same ground for 150 years = the trains do a 'de de der der der de de de de deer ' if you know what I mean, as the fly past.
Andorra is a great place to watch football. I went to CE Principat vs Dundee United there (United won 8-0). Braw trip. Gibraltar also is good fun but personally I find Gibraltar a bit grotty as a place. When Mexico Sir? When Mexico? Waiting to take you to the Azteca my friend!
The racecourse was originally located until it was demolished and built an air base during the Second World War. It was extended and it became an airport.
Especially enjoy your foreign trips 😉
Gibraltar are 181 on the ELO World ratings, which i think would tally with your assumption that they would beat some of those teams above them. I think their ranking system takes into account the strength of the opposition that they play against.
I hope you visit more small countries! I'd love a look at Luxembourg or Israel. The latter has a lot of intriguing football history that never seems to get covered unless an Israeli side like Maccabi Haifa makes it to the Champions League or a really bad group of ultras like Beitar Jerusalem's gets put under scrutiny.
He’s there, he’s there, he’s every******* where, Sam North, …. Sam North 🎵 🎶 🎶 😎
Was there with Larne last summer, great time but the match was grim 😢
Hiya Sam I’d love for you to checkout the scilly isles if you’ve not been there yet thanks and cheerio
They have Barbary monkeys at Trentham Monkey Forest near Stoke too which are classed as free roaming
Why can’t they play big qualifying matches in that stadium?
Are going to go to a match there?
How did you not know the currency is the pound
My grandad helped build the runway 🙏🏾
Luxembourg and san marino would be cool 😀
Would've thought you go just over the border, there is literally another stadium.
There are some other territories I think should work well with a FIFA license, like the French islands Martinique and Guadeloupe, they're quite good within CONCACAF.
What about somewhere like Andorra/Moldova somewhere like yhat
