      Because turning a turn based JRPG into stealth game wouldn't work, while also keeping the RPG part in the game. I mean, look how people were dissapointed with Assassin's Creed Odyssey and Vallhalla, when AC was mainly a stealth based game franchise and it was turned into a stealth game with heavy RPG mechanics and became a loot grinder to keep up with high level enemies.

    I'm gonna be honest, if the entire game was a more fleshed out version of specifically the DLC story, I'd buy it. I like the aesthetic of it, the paint mechanic, and just having more content with both Akechi and Kasumi.
    Seriously, why are Atlus so damn scared of just having those two in more side games.

    • @vanessachowjiaying4423
      @vanessachowjiaying4423 6 месяцев назад +6

      I think it's because of timeline and narrative consistency. Development and release timing is another factor of the characters placement in the spin offs. Taking into account Atlus tendency to connect narratives/timelines, it's likely the next spin off continuation story, timeline wise after Strikers will have everyone from the P5 generation together. Considering Erina and Toshiro's relationship, it can be assumed they share the same Arcana category as Maruki and Zenkichi, which leaves 1 more red hair woman, under the same Arcana category as Sumi and Sophia in future stories

    • @izzy1356
      @izzy1356 Месяц назад +1

      Because, and I shit you not:
      "We wanted to leave Akechi's fate up to the players. We know it might be controversial, but having it be determined by how much investment the player spends with him was eventually what we went with."
      Aka, he stays dead if you don't care, he lives if you do.
      It's part of the interviews in the recently released P5 Royal Artbook.
      So because of that, he's now permanently pigeon-holed into Princekechi to keep that consistent.
      As for Kasumi... They didn't say much about her beyond character design, but presumably it's just to keep people spoiler-free. Yet another unfortunate pigeon-hole.
      It's especially noticeable how sucky this is in the DLC, since they both have plenty to relate to with Guernica, but aren't given ANY opportunity to be fleshed out through her.

    Yeah Toshiro is a great character. It's actually a lot of fun seeing people's blind reactions to him: hating him at first, finding him annoying, and then as the game goes on he becomes their favorite character. That's good development!!! And for once in a Persona spinoff, they don't forget everything by the end! I was so afraid they would and absolutely destroy Toshiro's development, but nope, thank god they kept it.
    And while I am happy that the royal trio got to be in their own adventure, I definitely agree it should have been longer. It's so short that I just didn't care about the new characters at all, and of course because it takes place during the story of P5, they forget about it in the end, unlike the main game. I wish it had taken place in or after third semester, but oh well...

      Keep in mind Atlus will connect everything in the next spin off, narrative and timeline wise, after Strikers, with Royal having more relevancy. This also happened in Arena Ultimax and Dancing All Night, which closes off Persona 4 generation proper. However, Atlus P-Studio was behind schedule due to COVID and shift in the development crew with Wada as the new director after Hashino.

    • @DubsBrown
      @DubsBrown 6 месяцев назад +2

      The DLC actually does this little thing where the characters reveal things ahead of when it happens in Royal and then there’s a memory wipe at the end.
      So it’s not really an update, more like extending the Royal trio experience around the time of the Casino palace. If you think about the timeline too hard it gets confusing and there’s no new info about them, just more character depth through dialogue to have them react to the DLC story.

    I've not finished the game myself yet, currently towards the start of kingdom three, but there was one thing that bothered me about the game that I'm surprised didn't come up here: There's a Persona skill that makes you stronger while you're suffering from statuses, it's on some late game personas even, but not a single normal enemy in the entire game up to the point I'm at can apply statuses to you.
    It just seems odd that something as obvious as making fights harder by having the enemies throw statuses at you is just not done for at least the first half of this game (only coming up in 3 battles in the first kingdom). It's also odd that the game doesn't tell you what the statuses actually do. Most of them are straightforward enough, but, what does Despair do? As far as I've been able to tell it just makes a status icon appear next to the enemy's healthbar.

    The Triple Threats remind me of something similar in another tactical RPG. I forget the name of it but anyone that remembers it can remind me and I'll be super grateful. Basically, you have 3 characters in your Party with different guns. Combat functions with you aiming your characters in a certain direction, and as they move in that direction they'll shoot at whatever enemy to tell them to aim at. You can also make your party member jump up into the air, while shooting, which I loved doing.
    Anyways, that game also had a "Maneuver your characters into a triangle shape to unleash an attack on the enemy all at once" type move. For whatever reason, I could never pull it off, and I actually lost the game before I ever got to play it again.
    Really wish I could remember the name of it.

    I actually liked the story of Repaint Your Heart more than the base game, because the characters acted like actual characters instead of oversimplified bastardizations of what made them great in P5. I get that the main game did this to focus on Toshiro and Erina, but I couldn't help but find myself asking "Why is this a P5 spin off?" quite a lot. In Repaint Your Heart, Akechi and Kasumi are much more involved in the storytelling, so they do a better job fitting into the story than the Phantom Thieves did.
    It also took me much longer to finish Repaint Your Heart (around 7 ish hours) because I wanted to see if you got any main game incentives for finishing it, so I didn't have the skill that you would normally accumulate from finishing the main game first. Overall I thought it was a very fun and solid experience, and is probably worth the $20 if you like the combat of the main game. You also unlock extra challenge missions from the Repaint Your Heart dlc, so there's that, too.

      While I haven't played Repaint Your Heart yet, honestly, I thought the characters were the best they've been since their P5 debuts. Late-game P5 and Strikers started streamlining everyone's personalities so much, like Ryuji almost always being the idiot of the group or Morgana almost always being an Ann simp. In the case of Strikers, there was an attempt at having the Thieves be able to talk to others going through problems reminiscent of their trauma but there are multiple opportunities not taken up at all, such as Futaba with Akane and her mother or Ryuji with Konoe and his father. Each thief in Tactica gets a moment to be able to relate to Toshiro and they finally toned down the overused tropes of Ryuji being made completely stupid, Morgana being entirely an Ann simp, Makoto always being the temperamental strategist; they aren't entirely removed but they're far less overdone and in some cases done better, like Ryuji not understanding something entirely but he asks about it and the gang doesn't berate him for it, unlike Strikers. In his case, he finally feels more like how he was during the Kamoshida arc again. Should this have been a P5 spin off? Maybe not considering the poor release timing, but I feel like they put a lot more heart into this.

      @@lemonov3031 The party ebbed and flowed in P5.
      Morgana is not that bad but is hampered by being attracted to you for virtually the entire game. People misunderstand the reason he ran away, but he still cucked Haru out of her arc and always through out some poor dialog to the final bosses.
      Ryuji actually had development throughout the entire game, and, despite how stupid he is, he was endearing to me. The late game and Strikers reduced his character to a hothead who loves eating, but I thought that his consistent support of Toshiro was great.
      Ann… amazing during the Kamoshido arc, great during the Madarame arc, forgotten after that. Strikers have her a bit more character but only at the beginning. Poor girl.
      Yusuke quickly became coming relief after Madarame arc, and he is consistent if nothing else. I like him but can see why many are frustrated by him.
      Makoto’s introduction really introduced a turning point for how the PT functions, with everyone else suddenly becoming dumber. She is not badly written, but the writing that surrounds her is. She also suffers badly from spin-off flanderization (scary and scared of ghosts)
      Futaba is a love-or-hate character, for she becomes the “gamer gremlin” pretty quickly and has remained as such through the main game and spin-offs.
      Haru is a joke in the main game and only became more of a character in the spin-offs. She is perhaps the only Persona character who is more developed in spin-offs than her base game.
      tl;dr Most of the PTs are fine in P5, albeit with some heavy issue.

    • @lemonov3031
      @lemonov3031 5 месяцев назад +1

    While I like Toshiro, seems like there was a missed opportunity to involve the Politician Sun arcana from persona 5.
    Game needs some custom maps mode or even online multiplayer.
    Also why not give us Sophia and Zenkichi DLC? More useful than lame Persona DLC and you could do $10 no story.
    Could have been a 10/10 if they set it after Strikers and involved more map variety like you mentioned. Also kinda let down some of the sub menus didn’t have the same level of style Persona 5 did with animations of Joker.

      @vanessachowjiaying4423 6 месяцев назад

      @@J2ojuiced95 another thing to point out the spin-offs genre depends on the narrative direction of the story. The fighting game genre in P4 Arena is due to the 2 new P3 gen related characters, Labrys and Sho's background as experimental subjects, with one of the tests is fight till death. The TV World; one of the sections of the collective cognition materialize that dark thoughts into an Arena format.
      Atlus needs to make a specific spin off genre not out of a whim or fans request, but valid narrative reasons. The warriors style works well in Persona to some extent as it's more of a representation of how all Persons teams fight in actual combat, seen more in the anime. For Tactica, it's more on the use of strategies for victory, as seen with Toshiro mostly leading/strategizing for the Phantom Thieves and Rebel Corps into victory.
