Es gab in der Vergangenheit modulationsreichere Stimmen als Wolfgang Schmidt;
aber auf der Bühne "stand" die Stimme. Bin froh ihn, in Dortmund,
Herne, Düsseldorf und Bayreuth gehört zu haben !!!

Who is the conductor?
I heard this "Tristan" in 1994 with Jerusalem and Meier (staging: Heiner Müller). W. Schmidt (famous Siegfried) seems to have saved the evening. Certainly he is no ideal Tristan (neither was S. Jerusalem).
That's right. Heppner was later (about 200) and only for a short time singing Tristan. Good Tristan-singers are a rare thing ... Heiki Siukola had good moments in the 1990s
