THIS IS THE GREATEST UPD8 MOJANG HAS EVER MADE!!! now watch me delete all of their hard work! ^o^ ruclips.net/video/M1TgX_8M97k/видео.html EDIT: the world download is now up on the patreon :D
Mysticat, this update also added a damage command, so you can update your sharks and giants and stuff. They no longer hafta use damage potions. You can use any damage source you want! Plus, a little birdie told me you can use datapacks to add customly named damage sources, so feel free to look into that!
5:30 You don't need to use /kill anymore, you can now deal damage of any type to any entity so you can say "burned to death" instead of "fell out of the world" when a perpetrator walks into the laser.
This is basically Mojang's official modding API. They just call them "datapacks" instead of "mods." They promised us a modding API years ago (probably over a decade ago at this point) and if you've ever wondered what happened to that, this is it. It's datapacks. The problem with that is that everyone says "in vanilla Minecraft" now, when they really mean "with a datapack, or complex command" because Mojang have blurred the line between too much. Someone will still have to make those datapacks, just like they have to make the mods. It just has different caveats, like every modding API.
@@halotroop2288 But mods have the HUGE caveat of only working with specific mod loaders. Sure, some devs will upload both Forge and Fabric versions, but not all. So what if you have two mods you really wanna play together, but one's Forge-exclusive and one's Fabric-exclusive? Datapacks are far more universal since you don't need a mod loader of any sort - and that's especially important for servers.
@@clarethecat5199 mods also tend to lag behind the official game versions and snapshots. a good chunk of the existing datapacks are forwards-compatible. that said, one major caveat datapacks have besides being very picky about set-up, is lag.
@@ETXAlienRobot201 Omg YES the delay is such an issue! I can't believe I forgot to mention that, seeing as I've been on the edge of my seat for a certain mod to update for MONTHS now. I'm not aware of lag caused by datapacks, though I've only ever used pretty simple ones. And I thought datapacks were _less_ fickle in set-up than mods? This is great. Now I can think of many ways vanilla could theoretically replace some pretty famous mods, or at least some of their features.
