They said "sampler" in regards to the fudge package. A sampler in this case is a package that has different flavors/pieces of fudge in it so that you can try some (sample) of the different flavors instead of getting just one flavor in a package. That's one definition of the word sampler. The was funny! Thanks Aleks.
I would define the relevant words thusly: A “Sample” is an example or very small piece of a product or produced work or service, such as food or artwork, typically offered for free or at a negligible cost. (“про́ба” or “про́бовать” or [próba or próbovat’] might be the Russian equivalent if wiktionary is correct). Compare: teaser, “bite-sized example”, “just a taste”. A “Sampler” is a package containing a collection of several flavors of a particular food, or several related products from the same company, sold as a “variety pack”. (“Разнообразный пакет” would be my horrible attempt at translation to Russian, please forgive if that’s way off). Compare: assortment/assorted. Contrast: More focused & thematic than a “hodgepodge” and less diverse and (significantly) smaller than a “smorgasbord”. The 2 words, ‘sample’ & ‘sampler’, have different etymologies (though ultimately both tracing back to the same Latin root the second is actually originally a name for a needlework pattern template) but a Chocolate manufacturer started selling a variety pack as a branded “Whitman’s sampler” in the early 20th Century in packaging inspired by the needlework template (hence the name) which became very popular and is still on the market. The packaging eventually lost any connection to the needlework template thus nowadays people incorrectly think of a “sampler” as being derived as a “collection of samples”, linking the 2 words in modern English.
Hi Aleks! Fun video! The Jolly RUclips channel is one of my favorite channels. Jolly is putting together both of their names Josh and Olly to make JOLLY as their channel name. The Jolly channel has over 3 MILLION subscribers! :) Josh and Ollie are best friends. They went to university together. You should go visit Buccees for yourself soon because Buccees is in Texas.
Koláčky is of slavic origin. My community in Wisconsin is of Polish heritage, so koláčky here are always sweet, made with apricot, poopy seed, or prune filling. колачий. Jolly is a word that means happy, but Ollie's shirt is rather a pun on his name and Josh's name, as in J+Ollie. You may enjoy Josh and Ollies other channel The Korean Gentleman.
I sure hope those weren't made of poopy seed🤣 Hey Robbicu I'm from WI too and Kolacky's are soooo good. Just wish I could find them all year long and not just Lent.
They are JOLLY when you put Josh + Ollie together Jollie or Jolly as they spelled it more simply. Oh and you have a great ability to hear things. I never noticed the background music.
The presenters are Josh and Ollie.. so I think the combination of their names is where the channel name Jolly comes from. They have another channel focused on exposing people to Korean food and culture called Korean Englishman.
Texas Kolaches are Czech. A lot of Czechs settled in Central Texas. We take things from all the groups who settled here. The sausage in a tortilla is also known as a Taco Polaco (Polish taco).
Amazing food they have there wow I never been to one of these Buc-ee’s we don’t have any here in Fl yet will have travel Texas to tour, oh all those sweets yummy my weakness sweet foods😜🦅💪
Pecan is generally prounced Puh-CON in the US. Brits will often emphasize the opposite syllable than we do for some strange reason. And by opposite, I mean in a 2-syllable word, it'll be the other... For example, the word Garage. We'll say Gur-RAHGE. And Brits say GARE- adge.
Russian Orthodox decendent here. Loved tour video. New subscriber here from Oklahoma City, OK. But grew up in Connecticut and born in North Carolina...grew yp ther first 5 years of ny life.
Sample is a free taste. A sampler is a package with different things or multiple flavors of one product that you can buy. That wasn't even a small portion of that store in the video or the number of things they sell. You can get great kolaches at most donut shops. Just not at our local Shipleys. IMO theirs are awful.
@MyEnglishWorld 10:33 (just prior to this point) - They said "Buccee the beaver punches fricking hard". It's an expression. I don't know enough about the UK to explain the origins. It does sound similar enough to American expressions that basically means they do beyond a lot or a good job. I suppose the metaphor is that they are fighting for your money, hence the "punch" being "hard".
A sample in this case is when you try a food or drink for free before buying it. For example, when I was a kid, I would often try a sample of cheese when I would go to the grocery store with my parents. The cheese would be very tiny. Like a really small cube. They would either be in a display case or on a table with an employee asking people if they would like to try a sample? If my explanation doesn’t help you understand it entirely. Google product sample.
The beaver mascot actually came from the fact that the owner and CEO of the company's childhood nickname was Beaver. I think it's also a reference to an old cartoon mascot for Ipana toothpaste way before my time (I was born September of 1990) called Bucky Beaver.
Buccee's now is opening a new station in Tennessee n they said it is larger than this one in Texas. I haven't looked it up on Google to see if it is true. I just heard this 1 week ago
This doesn't show enough of the outside to do it justice. Eighty to 120 gas pumps per location and 36 to 48 ice freezers outside just for bags of ice. A sample is a small portion of a product. Usually it comes with multiple flavors or types of a product.
A popular hot food shop over here in uk is called Greggs, and there everywhere. They sell sausage rolls ,sandwiches , cakes and hot drinks etc. But its still a small shop with 1 or 2 tills normally!
Our petrol stations are like a small shop with a fuel pumps added on the forecourt, and a normal size is around 6 to 8 fuel pumps and a small store under a canopy!!. This looks like the size of a supermarket in the uk is same size as this fuel station!. We don't have corn dogs or anything unusual foods at our petrol station either .
@MyEnglishWorld -- Aleks, there are no English words with a silent letter "J". Words borrowed from Spanish pronounce it as "H"; from French pronounced as a "ZH" and Italian as very soft "CH"; from German as "Y"; and Latin as "EE".
Aleks, I wish you could have a nie long vacation in the USA in order to try as muh food as possible here. YOu come across as a genuine and super nice guy. It would be fun to see you seeing and trying a lot of things here. Always good to see you.
You have a Buc-ees near you!😁 I think the one in Katy would be the closest. (but Heather would know) I am at the library using their internet because my home Wifi/internet/TV are still out due to the storms! I'm on a waiting list... they say July 11th before they can fix my internet. Seriously?!?! 🙄🤨😡
You should plan a road trip to Austin, TX and experience 6th Street (go during the school year). You can go via highway US 290 and stop at the Buc-ees in Waller, TX, on the way, or go via I 10 and make a side trip to New Braunfels. Either Bucees is almost as big as the store in this video.

Hi Aleks.
Hi 😺
They clearly like each other 😮
Texas Kolaches are Czech. A lot of Czechs settled in Central Texas. We take things from all the groups who settled here. The sausage in a tortilla is also known as a Taco Polaco (Polish taco).
Nice video. Thank you very much
Hello, Aleks, dear. Thank you for sharing this. Wonderful for a good laugh!
😺😉
A lot of times, a sample is a small portion given for free. In this case, a sampler is sold but has an assortment of products to try.

No, no. His name is Ollie. And the other guy's name is Josh. They just did a play on words and combined their names to create Jolly.
