Do You Have A Forever Gravel Bike Ride?

  • Do You Have A Forever Gravel Bike Ride? Currently where we live, this simple bike route is mine. There's just something about pedaling in your immediate radius. Ours is the white mountains of New Hampshire. Gravel cycling in my hometown region has an endless supply of enjoyment for any gravel cyclist or biketouring enthusiast and can be quite freeing for the mind. Its a ride I could find my bliss on even when I'm 100 years old. On this recent bicycle endeavor I had a thought: I think us humans like "the idea of something", more than when that "something" actually happens. Cycling Adventures for me can fall prey to this as well. Nikki and I stayed pretty close to home during June and most of July. When the hottest summer on record is sweeping through New England, it's hard to stray too far from the cool embrace of our local swimming hole. Its magical pristine waters become intoxicating and irresistible. But the last few weeks we tried to make up for the lack of travel and drive hours to find adventure and new gravel bike routes but every time we returned, we kept thinking about the logistical effort to simply go ride our bikes, not to mention the gas costs and environmental impacts of those outings. This gravel route stays very close to home in the little town of Campton, New Hampshire near beautiful Perch Pond. Perfect loop for our salsa journeyman bikes, not the fastest gravel bike but one of the best bikes for long distance cycling so this little loop they are very comfortable to ride. When we quit our careers, sold off everything we owned and moved to the mountains sight unseen, we did it so we could live where we adventured and simply leave our doorstep into a world of wanderlust and discovery. Now don't get me wrong, New England is ripe for the adventure picking, especially for a gravel cyclist but as I say in the video, there's just something mentally freeing about a familiar gravel bike route in your hometown radius. Maybe it's the feeling gratitude while being reminded of the awe that surrounds where we live. Or maybe I'm just getting older, and simplicity is becoming more satisfying than novelty. The reason doesn't matter honestly, it's about the feeling I get in my heart when I do something and less about the romanticized idea of it all. Big adventures are great, I'll always seek them but re-visiting the familiar places that consistently keep me saying "Wow!", that's the nourishment my heart can sustain off for a lifetime.

    "The gravel feels"
    I definitely know exactly what you are describing, love that!
    Wow, that is some really pristine gravel road conditions. Like you said, just enough bumps to keep you engaged but still smooth 😍
    BUDDY!!!!! ❤❤❤🥺😊 So happy to see him! Thank you for another wonderful video, Nikki and Caleb (and of course Buddy).
    Yes, I think we need your skills to have a drone. Love you guys too, and love New England the more I watch your adventures.
    Not a creepy house, just a misunderstood house 😋
    It was national women's day here in South Africa yesterday, so I took the time to appreciate all the wonderful women in my life and the world. And took the long weekend opportunity to go camping at the beach and surfing for the weekend, no riding unfortunately. But I love the ocean just as much as I love biking. Scottburgh caravan park camping sites right on the ocean (if you're interested in seeing the view 😊).
    I hope everyone is having a great weekend so far 💚 I feel like 100 bucks too, Nikki 😊
    Ps. Can definitely feel the love and authentic gratitude being exuded through the camera. It's always so wholesome and rewarding for me (and I'm sure others) watching your videos. I'll be sad when winter takes over New England and there are no more gravel videos from you. But grateful that I was able to experience them while I could 😊
    And I'm not at all surprised that you two were featured on a local TV show. You two and your videos have the best vibe and Gravel Feels™️ talking so lovingly and enthusiastically about your local area. Local is Lekker (is what we'd say here in South Africa).

      I too am so grateful for all the incredible women in my life and in the world. So much love. Your surfing and camping trip sounds absolutely heavenly, I miss surfing and frequenting the ocean when I lived within walking distance to the beach but now 2hrs away so it's only a few times a year I see it. Talk of you're trip makes me realize I need to put in more effort to go appreciate it more often. I hope you stick around for winter and enjoy what our mountain wilderness looks like under a fresh blanket of snow. We use our backcountry touring skis to explore deep into the wilderness where its not possible to travel in summer because of the thick forests. The snow allows for easy travel to remote areas. But still lots of summer left and fall is where new england really shows the world it's unique beauty and there is no better climate than fall for a bike ride. The forest is a palette of color that almost feels like an alien planet on a sci fi movie. Do you have any foliage changes in any parts of Africa? P.s. what type of board do you surf with there?

    Greetings from East Tennessee and congratulations on another great video. One of the best things I like about your channel is that you're regular, everyday people and you're not constantly promoting products. I also love your dog. Terriers rock!

    • @ThatMountainMoment
      @ThatMountainMoment  27 дней назад

      Terriers do rock ha ha. We have company's send us products but we will only ever suggest a product if we've put it through many tests and then we'll use it in the videos and if someone inquires about it we'll arrange for a discount code but it needs to align with our videos flow and our vibe. I think straight up product ads disrupt a videos flow and only work if it fits in organically to the content. We are currently testing a couple cool items we think are neat and if we think it's worth mentioning then we will but my goal is not to feel like a salesman pitching things to people. I don't enjoy content like that so no reason to make content like that. We have a membership subscription and if people feel compelled to donate then cool, it can help with film equipment etc, but it's not what drives us to make these videos. I just love that people enjoy them and take something positive from them. Thank for your kind words.

      Thank you so much for that recognition of how we perceive a ride. You're spot on with that observation. Also, I really want to save people the visial horror of me wearing spandex 😂Buddy used to trot next to us from time to time but he's now 17 years old with poor vision and just likes to enjoy the breeze and a quick dip in the river. I'm so glad that's what you took from our videos because my goal is to simply portray the emotion that being in a beautiful landscape with loved ones can evoke. Thank you!

    You two definitely have a beautiful area to ride. We have some beautiful places/routes here in Oklahoma, but you have to drive at least 45 minutes or more to get to them. There's a nice 27+ mile gravel route with pretty views and a swim at the end, doing it again in two weeks on my 26" Frankengravel build.

      That sounds like an awesome day! I bet there is loads of open gravel roads 8n Oklahoma. I love a cool frankenbike build. A lot of my bikes have been something of the sort over the years. What's your bike build consist of?

    • @johnnydoe66
      @johnnydoe66 Месяц назад

      @ThatMountainMoment The frame is my 1998 Barracuda XC URT steel frame that I had ridden for ten yrs before hanging it up. The build consists of: Carver rigid steel fork (suspension corrected at 440mm axle/crown), 26" wheelset w/ Continental tires, 12 spd crankset off my hardtail w/ a 32t nw chainring (6mm offset to keep chain alignment correct), 11-34 7 spd cassette, Alivio 7 spd derailleur, friction thumbshifter from an '86 Jamis, a Satori Aero bars (Amazon, knockoff of the Origin8 Strongbow), and Paul Components Cross Stop 3's brakeset that I bought in 1997, actuated by Dia-compe brake levers from the '86 Jamis. It's a softtail gravel bike of sorts with the URT rear suspension. It looks rather odd but rides great.

      Ah yes, one of my favorite song and lyrics we've used on our channel. Cool you picked up on it and once again your comments sound beautifully lyrical. Be out in nature or out in the world in general is such a buzz. I always ponder the uniqueness of simply existing as a human being, able to experience a myriad of fantastic emotions and when I'm out riding or in the woods that inner philosiphizing becomes more heightened. What a trip we get to all be on together in this universe. Thanks for the thought provoking comments. Always look forward to them.
