MCs have a definite place in D&B history, and the best ones can spit a few sporadic freestyles, get the dance floor lively, and be a great complement to the beats, provided they choose their spots and practice a bit of brevity. Personally, I want to hear the tracks being played and the intricate mixing and matching techniques employed by the DJ. A good MC clams up during the drops and transitions. Unfortunately, some treat the best as little more than backing to yell over the music or a medium to plaster thousands of words of freestyle over. There has to be a proper balance, or the MC ruins the music
@Beeblebrox One Agreed. By the 9th or 10th bar and things are getting repetitive, that's MC territory. They are best off there and during the first couple of minutes of a set. A little rhyme, shout out to the crowd or heads up to the DJ is fine, when administered properly. It's typically advertising as DJ SO and So featuring or with MC So and So. If the MC raps over half the set or more, they are elevating themselves above the DJ. If thars the case, advertise the MC in bold a with the DJ listed as support, not vice versa. I love D&B, so I see a place for thoughtful MC performance, it just has to be kept in context.

I don't know that I'd consider it "early" per se, but fairly classic. Tech step had been a thing for at least 2-3 years prior. Good set at any rate tho.
