Having The Magician who was the final boss in the first game as the boss in the penultimate stage is one of the reasons why this game is my favorite in the series.
The game's setting is fantastic. A mix of pulpy spy thriller and 80s horror in a medieval Italian village.

They actually changed Goldman voice in this version I never noticed that. Listen to when he says "it's been a while hasn't it, My friends from the ams, it is me goldman" it's different in the arcade. He sounds worse.

I grew up playing hockey and the rink I played at had an arcade. This was there the 15 years was there the 15 years I played. So nostalgic.

Although games these days are of much higher fidelity and detail, there's something charming and crisp about the games of this era that I think the modern day lacks.
Yup not just you, with resolution upscaled the original hotd looks better than the recent remake (unity engine with shit ragdoll nonsense). For games too look good again (like half-life 2 in the day) they need to be built from the ground up... that is very rare thing these days, might just be dead.

When I was younger (4-6 I think, I don't have good memory) I played this all the time with my dad since I was absolutely OBSESSED with zombies. They even let me watch the walking dead with them.
I remember skipping class to play this at my local theater on a rainy day with a friend, ridiculous nostalgia

There's something truly great about the camera movements and angles of 95-05 (roughly) gaming; when games felt like games, not glorified CGI movies with limited gameplay.

I remember playing this game a lot when I was a kid. House of the Dead 2 is way more scary than the first game. The Juggernaut is one of those creatures I kept dying on when I was really young. Thankful I got older and I was able to slay him and defeat the Emperor.

Probably the best rail on shooter acrade machine. Ever! And what’s best is having a gun con for the experience. I wish there was hom console instead playing with the controller
There are few home releases (like the Dreamcast port) of this game, one of which offer the option to play with a light gun, good luck however if you don't have a CRT TV which most light guns would require in order for the guns to work properly.
Alternatively you can play the Wii version of this game through THoTD2&3 Return.

I think you should play the DREAMCAST version once before uploading the video, because its bonus weapons are at least shotgun and machine gun, you will not want to play the original version again after you experience their power

The reason why the locations look decrepit and abandoned, despite being inhabited, is explained by Goldman in HOD4.
At first I thought the location was Naples because they both look piss poor. Turns out it's mostly Venice, Bologna and Rome. But even in 2000 the centuries old architecture and civil infrastructure was decently maintained.
Goldman mentions an upsurge in earthquakes and natural disasters. I presume that in the HOD universe, these were more frequent and devastating. Attempted repairs were always incomplete because there's always another disaster. They were lacking in resources to maintain civil infrastructure. Goldman thought this was the perfect time to put his plan into action, and Italy would be his testing grounds.

I can get into the Naomi bios but there isn't an option, the game is cool but red blood would make it cooler lol!
Open the game, then open the Test Menu of the game (usually the F2 key), go to the GAME TEST MENU option, there you will find the blood color option.
@@LongnPlay Hey thanks for the reply! I actually figured it out right after I left this comment! I'm playing via Flycast on Retroarch and I didn't realize I had to change the system to USA mode first. Apparently only the US version allows the option for blood, weird. Happy gaming!!

I never realized the the hod2 ports was slightly censored from the arcade
it kinda isn’t, i remember playing it from a arcade years ago and it was no different from the version i downloaded from my pc. idk why certain things are not shown like the red damage and the blood splatter
also it’s interesting to note that the lifebar is brown and the damage is red here, as opposed to red lifebar and brown damage in pc

Never realized how much more gorey arcade version was compared to console ports, all those chunks that fly out. Also yay to RED blood when being hit instead of that dumb, censored orange paste. Hopefully ACA can get the rights to port over the arcade versions of the series and bring those to Switch, PS5, PS4, etc.
i think the arcade versions also used the versions where it was less gorey and stuff, so i think this was only for certain builds
