    realize there might be a sponsorship/discount with Solinco, but Winston played better and the forehand/spin was more effective with the Pure Aero. Matt figured out and took advantage of Winston second serve and it was game over. Next lesson with Karue should be serve.

    Matt has a nice game. You can tell he trains at a premier academy. In my humble opinion, Matt could load his legs more in the forehand drive for more power. The first serve wasn't going in but his second serve saved the day. Good job staying patient in the first games until you started seeing the ball better.

    Great match you all. Winston, your game is looking rather good. I really like your aggressiveness off the ground. Matt, you did a nice job of attacking the short ball when you had a chance. I think the serve toss thing can go either way…just look at the ladies top servers, Graf tossed the ball all the way to the moon and Serena tossed it maybe just a foot above her strike point. Both had tremendous serves.

  • @alwaysprepared

    Matt did an awesome job hanging in there til he got his strokes going! Well done and well fought to come back and win! I think Matt knows what he needs to do to improve his backhand. He's got a very nice forehand, though. He impressed me with some of his service returns, as well! I thought he also has really good instincts at the net! Probably needs to find his way up there more frequently. Also, I noticed a fair amount of the time he let balls drop below the height of the net when he was inside the court trying to be offensive. That makes it harder to be consistent hitting a strong shot having to lift it over the net.
    Glad Matt came back and won to hopefully impress any coaches who might watch!

    Winston's most obvious problem was Matt started running around the second serve and pounding a forehand return at Winston's feet, was very effective and Winston didn't manage to mix up his serve enough to stop it, or move well enough after the serve to be able to get the return back again.

    Hi Winston, like your matches and have been watching for awhile. In the time I've seen your material I've seen an advancement of your tennis. A real good improvement on both wings, backhand and forehand, plus a better pop, spin on your service. Do you take lessons? Or through the many matches played you have self-improved?

  • @letrantrung1
    @letrantrung1 Год назад +1

    Matt's forehand was scorchingggg

  • @twinwankel
    @twinwankel Год назад

    For you Winston, Matt's serve advice is spot. Your full take back makes a low toss feel rushed and as a result your drop is very poor. You can either toss the ball higher as Matt suggested or you abbreviate your take back and keep your tossing height. Also you really need to develop more racket head speed. Relax your arm during the serve and whip through the ball. What is surprising is that you didn't make Matt pay for his slow backhand slices during the entire match. You could have run around the ball to hit inside out forehands and put more pressure on his backhand. You are improving but there some things you could have done better to win the match.

    Winston, you're not shifting your body-weight back and forth consistently enough on your serve, forehand and backhand to unlock that effortless power, that's why your balls are sitting up for the opponent to attack instead of a 'heavy ball' penetrating through the court. Carue told you same the thing during your backhand lesson.

    Matt is looking solid, but a couple glaring issues he should be working on before the drive backahdn IMO - boy does he need to engage his legs way more on his groundstrokes. He is almost vertical on his preparation and has a slight knee flex before accelerating, but really gets no help from his legs on the swing. He also whips his head on the serve and looks like his eyes are off the ball before contact at times. For you Winston, idk why you kept serving to his forehand - body or backhand all day.

  • @nickharvey8515
    @nickharvey8515 Год назад

    Winston, great match. One thing you never cover is racket weight. Do you ever weight your rackets? I know its a must for any serious tournament players to ensure all their sticks are the same grams/balance. My 6' 3" 15 y.o. recently played a tiny Madrid exchange student with blasting groundstokes similar to Matts from a weighted racket at like 38lbs. In order to keep up, I just weighted my new Vcore 100 and am dialing it in so I can do the same with my Son's Blade 98 V8 in order to get to more stability and plow on those aggressive hard hitting players. Id be fun to see you throw the rackets on a gram scale after the match to see whos loading the grip etc and not mentioning it 😂

  • @bjohnson00
    @bjohnson00 Год назад

    I disagree with Matt about your toss height, Winston. There are plenty of players with big serves and low toss (e.g. Kygrios, Rude, etc.), and adding a pause to your motion will just slow down your racket head speed further. You just need to work on relaxing at the top of your motion to get a deeper racket drop, where the racket will come around further to be aligned with the right side of your body.
