  • I purchased a Geochron Atlas when they were first introduced in early 2020. It was, by far, the best thing to be introduced to the world in the year 2020, by the way. I was so impressed with it that, in the back of my mind, I was soon convinced that I wanted to buy another one someday. You see, I wanted to have a Geochron in more that one location in my home. They're just so cool!
Fast forward to "Black Friday" in the year 2022 and there was a deal on the Geochron Atlas 2. So I finally bought that second digital 4K Geochron and it's been a blast to have it. Generally, there's not much about the Atlas 2 which makes it stand out from the previous Atlas device. But, like any updated computer device, the new one has more advanced hardware and it can do things a little more smoothly and a little quicker. The previous Atlas is still supported with software updates and all of the live functions which are available through an Internet connection. It's still a centerpiece of our family room whenever we're not using that particular monitor to watch a show.
In today's video I'll go over all of the functions and features of my Geochron Atlas 2 (or, to be more specific, it's a Geochron Atlas 2B). My guiding principle in making this video is the simple question "What would I want to know about this device before buying one?" So forgive me if the video seems to be very long and detailed. And if you're interested in finding out more and/or buying a Geochron device yourself, by all means go visit Geochron.com and do some more research. To be clear, I'm not on the payroll of Geochron in any way. I'm just a big-time fan of their products (including the classic mechanical Geochron which they still make and they still service). It's arguably the most unique and fascinating timepiece in my collection. And my family loves Geochrons too. Thanks for watching.

I just got one of these and view it on a 4K 55" display in my Ham Shack. It made a very nice addition.

I remember being mesmerized by those world time clocks at the SFO international airport back in the 70's. Now you can project it on the big screen.

Excellent! And $499 is cheap compared to the $1,800 I remember paying for the mechanical Geochron that I always wished had a topological map option. I have a monitor ready, already on the wall. Getting on this ASAP! Thanks, Greg!

"that'd be like asking Ford to build a Mustang with absolutely nothing on the car indicating that it's a Ford or a Mustang"
It's actually relatively common for high end vehicles to be available with "badges omitted", especially when sold in Europe and it's a fairly popular option there. Generally that means your BMW is just presented as a BMW with no indication of the actual model, engine, trim or anything of that nature but I think it can go further in same cases.

Hi Greg, great video and presentation about the GeoChron 2B. My question is that I live in the UK 🇬🇧 when I order the GeoChron will I be sent a UK version with the correct adaptor and power outlet, will I have to specify this to Patrick?

Nice video. Question, I had the 2 for a while. Problem was every time I went between Geo and TV the Geo would hang up and I had to reboot every time. 20 minutes. They sent me another unit and it did the same thing. Have you experienced that condition. Really annoying. Ended up sending it back.
    Thanks John

Is there a minimum size monitor/display for this software? How often are the maps updated? Thanks Greg.

I have a small, 7-inch monitor to use for a video viewfinder on-the-go and it has a 720p resolution. It has an HDMI input and it will didplay the Geochron, however the last time I tried it the menus didn’t show up correctly. I can try it again and let you know. If nothing else, you can set it up on a 1080 monitor and then connect it a 720 monitor without accessing the menus on the small monitor.

Greg, it occurred to me as someone who may well just need to mind his own business, that you should have a podcast or at least convert some of your content to podcasts. I think it would be fun to listen to you.
