Heads up rick. The ps3 doesn’t auto detect inputs so the AV probably works fine. You need to turn the system off and when you turn it back on hold the power button until you hear a second beep. That tells the systems to check which video signal is being used
@@Adam20622 thanks for the heads up Adam!
Go into the settings for video output switch from hdmi
@@retrorick alternatively since it's been set to HDMI you can go into menu settings and manually Switch it over to component cable and then it will work with just them like it's doing now that other dudes correct though the master reset option would have worked if you hadn't had HDMI too.
u have to switch it to av and it will work
PS3 usually needs to be switched to a specific resolution in order for it to work. I know there's a way to reset it while it's plugged in so you don't need a 1080P TV to switch it for an analog CRT.
Came here to say same thing!
It's just a setting in the video menu. I think you need to set the output source and resolution. I think there is a way to reset it too, pretty sure factory setting is 480i composite out.
I always had the opposite problem with PS3 and 360, get a new console hook it up to HDMI, but no video.
there is actually a way to switch it up I think by holding the power button for a certain amount of time, so you don't need a hdmi tv to switch
I think ps3 reset, hold the power button, resets resolution to lowest or whats plugged in. Something like that.
@@jmlchaosdragon That sounds right.
The av is in the settings, if it outputs in hdmi the av has been disabled but it does work if you enable
I was about to say the same thing you have to enable the av input.
had no idea...appreciate the info my friend!
@@superm1guel super helpful guys!
Other than the Xbox 360 the PS3 doesn't automatically reset the output when you put in an AV cable and have used it on HDMI before. You have to manually reset it by turning the PS3 off and then holding the power button until it beeps 2 times. If you hold it too long it switches off, if you keep holding it it will beep 3 times and you're in the recovery menue (an inspiration Sony took from the PSP hacking scene).
"Time is always the problem"
I feel yah!!!
For the PS3 this is normal since composite is disabled when HDMI is selected in the Video Settings, and vice versa. Nothing broken here.
you can also do a button combination on the controller to switch it over but i forgot what it was
i had no idea...really appreciate the info Matt!
Dude... you're making me want to do this for a side hustle. I spend more time watching your videos than Netflix! Lol
Yep, came here to say the same! It's a settings issue.
@@paulmyers8319 haha wow...thank you Paul! Go out there and hustle dude!
I use that same method of literally telling everyone I know that I collect games. It works!
oh dude...cant tell you how many times thats happened to me!
My ex-wife gave me a ton of games (including my original copy of Toejam & Earl), our old Wii, and I gave her some 360 controllers, games, and got her Maniac Mansion on the NES for her birthday, she was so happy about that one.
The av prolly works but u can't just switch from hdmi to av without changing the settings. I think u hold the power button for until it beeps twice and then it'll switch
ill give that a shot...thanks Dwane!
@@retrorick no problem. Just make sure the system is off, plug in the av cable and hold down the power button for 10 seconds and then it'll ask if u can see the screen
You need to reset the display settings, with the system off (red light), press and hold the power button, as soon as you press the power button it will beep, keep holding it until you hear a second beep, then release it. This will reset the display setting back to the default output resolution of 480p through the av output instead of HD out of the HDMI port.
Yeah I was going to say this lol..
When hooking it up on either av or hdmi you have to push and hold the power button down for like 20 seconds to swap back if I’m not mistaken. Hold down until it beeps.
ill give that a shot!
@@ICEMAN7679 its crazy that i have never heard of this...but , at least i know now!
Yep, the resolution was likely set to 720/1080p over an HDMI cable, which literally can't be displayed via a composite AV lead. Simple fix, don't even think it's 20 seconds, more like 5 or so.
I was just gonna post that! Right on!
You can reset the video setting if you hold the power button for a few seconds until you hear a second beep when turning it on. It should output through AV if you do that.
thanks for the heads up!!!
Hey Rick just wanted to say that im a huge fan of this series.
Found you through Seth Fowler and his 10$ Sneaker Collection.
I litterly just binged this series in two weeks. Keep em coming.
Big love from Germany
I sold the Sopranos complete for $49. It had everything, even the slip cover. Great finds.
oh nice...i didnt look at sold comps...thanks for the heads up!
Damn Rick, you live in a gold mine of Goodwill's that always have stuff. Nice bro.
I was gonna drop a message about the PS3 AV settings, but it looks like the crowd has beat me to it, haha. Glad you had a good week Rick!!!
haha i had no idea...i appreciate the help!
When you have it connected with HDMI, go into the settings and change the settings to make the AV cable work instead of the HDMI
Retro you got me in a deeeeep nostalgia mood 😂 Went and dug up my GameCube and N64 stuff
The PlayStation 3 has to be set up to use the correct video option. Im Sure av is fine.
You all are geniuses!
@@retrorick aw shucks ;) haha no worries my friend that's what we're here for :)
@@lawfullucyless6715 amazing, thanks again!
You just have to reset the system and it will work with AV
@@VinnyVidiVintage I sure hope you don't mean factory reset. It is a simple change of settings 🙂
For the ps3, hold down the power button until it beeps a second time. It will reset video to whatever is currently plugged in.
thanks for the heads up Bruce!
I know life gets in the way of posting more but man I wish you could post more. I always get stuck watching your videos while playing some games. Keep it up man!
I had that exact GBA grip/charger. it held a great charge and also had a car charger adapter. was one of my favorite gameboy accessories. it came with a worm light too
Hey man, if the last output method was hdmi, and you want to switch to rca cable without first enabling it in settings, you can reset the video settings. While the console is off, hold down the power button until it beeps a second time, and lift your finger. It should show up on a/v. Moving from rca to hdmi is much easier since hdmi is digitally detected.
ill give that shot!
My boy Rick. Always coming with three great content. Always coming up on deals and steals. Thank you for taking us on the journey and showing us all the gems you pick up. Always a great adventure with you.
Looking forward to the next.
Gotta admit the out of all you tube channels. The ten dollar game collection is the only one I look forward to every week.
oh wow..that is one of the best compliments i could have gotten...thank you Eric!
To fix the AV issue ... make sure you have your AV cable plugged in and hold down the power button for 5 seconds until second beep then should work, do the same again when you want to switch back to HDMI ... easy fix ;)
thank you my friend!!
@@retrorick no problem brother any tech issues you may have just hit me up as i fix both new and retro consoles etc so i know 99.9% of problems you may face
I’ve got two ps3s where I picked them up similar to the way you did, son and daughter both have one each, definitely worth keeping it.
With the PS3 you have to go into the settings n switch the video output to AV . That’s how I helped a friend with his 😁 definitely some excellent finds in thus episode for sure
Lol crazy coincidence you find the talking billy bass and the sopranos game as the fish is featured heavily in that show!
oh wow...that is wild!
3:13 I bet he was about to say "have family on the side" lol
I had a few of those Big Mouth Billy Bass fish a few years ago. Would not have thought they had resell value like that haha.
To get the a/v setting to work I believe that you have to press the power and eject button simultaneously until you get the "beep".
10:06 for some odd reason I thought the bonus was bioshock infinite
ha it was not unfortunately
6:00 zatoichi (2003) remake is a great film. If you watch the original one from the 1960 those are good too, I think there were 25 in total in the original run.
oh nice...i had no idea!
I have this remake and the criterion collection set they're cool movies!
The tv series is harder to find I need those now! Lol along with the lone wolf and cub tv series! Some samurai movies are oop and $$$
@@retrorick Sonatine is well worth watching too. Looks like it's included in that DVD.
Hey Rick, so I had almost the same exact PS3 situation this past weekend. I found the fully backwards compatible launch edition PS3 at a Savers thrift store, but it was console only. The price was an astronomical $129.99, but lucky it was half off on green tags that day, so I picked it up for $65... plus tax. It was still a big gamble though cuz they did not accept returns. Luckily it works great, but the AV output didn't work, just like urs. I messed around with it for a while and found I had to change the output settings from the hdmi port to the AV port. Once I did that it worked as it should... I then switched it back to hdmi cuz who wants to use AV anyway lol. I hope this helps u figure out ur PS3.
i found Def jam vendetta at a thrift store loose disc for $1 a couple years ago.
oh man...killer find Jack!
Awesome pickups 👍
Try changing your display setting on the PS3, an see if the AV works then
Kinda weird it came with av cables but wasn't set to the av display. Wonder if the person that sent it to goodwill thought it was broke 😂
thats what im thinking!!!
when you turn the ps3 on, keep your finer on the power button until it beeps again and that will reset it back to the av or go back to settings :)
thanks my friend!
I would keep it for the collection. You can always sell it later!
So you keep what you don't have in your collection 1st, even the lower cost ones? Great idea. Do you have a list of games that you need to take with you shopping?
I just pick up a ps2 slim in a Box and a ps1 slim in a Box for 40 on both and also got Deaf jam fight for New York for $5 at my local value village last week's score
oh man...those are some amazing finds!
You give a family hope and dreams on collecting games will be watching all you $10 videos. 🙏
haha so glad you are enjoying the videos!
Had a similar thing with my ps3 slim you have to hold down the power button for a few seconds for it to boot into a different resolution av or hdmi! It’s not broken 🤣😂✌️👍
i wish ps3s were idiotproof...you know what i mean?!
With it powered off (while plugged in the crt) press and hold the power button until it beeps twice. There's a slight pause between. A screen will pop up for u to select which resolution
So.. you have three or more singing fish sitting in your garage for over a year waiting to be sold. You sir have a very understanding and patient wife.
Definitely try holding the power button for 2 to 3 beeps with the av plugged in. It should switch to that resolution. Keep up the great videos
Great stuff Retro Rick and thanks for sharing your video with me thanks 🙏❤️🤩😱👊
Thank you so much for this video and all the other videos on your channel. just knowing your going to post brings a smile to my face
what a compliment!! Thank you for the kind words my friend
@@retrorick your very welcome have a great day
I've really enjoyed watching your videos.I wish you could do a video just with cleaning and testing games and systems.I would watch that all the time.Loving this series.A fan from South Africa.
Awesome finds!!! Game lots like this $20 one are what make game collecting all worth it 😌
i know right!! great score for sure
This is one great big haul, nice finds man
it was a great week for sure...thanks for watching!
its a simple setting to switch from av to hdmi. i think you can even hold a button at start up to change it.
amazing...thank you for that!
Love hauls like that. I just had one for huge box of fenton glass for 10
I had that gba battery grip like 20 years ago. Totally forgot all about that.
The AV is working, Ps3 has "a problem" If you keep Pressed the Power button until you hear a little sound it fix the compatibility with AV and HDMI
thanks for that!
Was just watching 1 of your old videos. Right on time for a new vid.
ha amazing! Thanks for tuning in
I would love to have that Handy Gear for one of my GGs! And I love the Slim PS3. I have a Super Slim, its ok. But i would like it more of the disc door were automated.
for sure i get that!
amazin buy rick .. great cash fund hopefully x glad u kept the ps3
me too! We needed a ps3 in the collection!
Man I wish stuff like that would happen to me. Everybody around here want top dollars or more than what it's worth. On top of that the goodwill here went up on there games to 5.99 and that's if u can find em in the case cause ppl are stealing the disks. It's getting hard out here to be gaming on a budget.
I used to have the grip for the Gameboy Advance. Brought back forgotten memories
7:19 As far as I know the PS3 is automatically set to HDMI. If you use a PS2 AV cable then it must be set in the menu. But there is also an AV cable for the PS3 that automatically changes the signal, but that is very rare because it was bought separately.
the av issue on the PS3, it may be that you need to switch the output mode. I can't remember how but it has to do with holding down the power button for , amount of time. great haul again!
As a reseller and collector the only part I hate about doing this type of business is posting them online and buyers say they didn't get it due to the tracking didn't get updated or didn't get scan by mailman which sometimes can be annoying.
It was a feature of the PS3. It saves the last set video resolution settings. AV port likely is working. All you had to do with the system off and power plugged in (red light on) is hold the power button until you hear two beeps. Then boot up and it will go through optimal resolution process.
Thank you for all that you do appreciate it come to NY I have every system and we can go hunting in the areas all the best keep it coming
You need to reset the AV settings on power on to use the AV connections. Hold the power button turning it on till you hear a second beep on start up with the AV on. PS3 wasn’t smart enough to switch between av/hdmi
I got a ps3 at the thrift a while ago paid 5.00. It's the back version which I knew nothing about. My son took it even though he had a ps3 . Recently I got the wii rockband for 9.00. My son loves it. .. luv your vlogs. Look forward to them. Happy thrifting
thats awesome and thank you Nicole!
I just bought a gameboy player and disc for my japan gamecube so I can play gameboy games that way now. I don't like emulation personally and all my friends say "just play it on your pc and then its free" idk its not the same to me.I just started collecting GBA games too.
i love the gba!!! also love the GBA player
I had the same problem with the PS3. It’s just a settings thing. Thanks for a great video
The AV probably does work you have to hold down the power button until it resets to use the av output instead of H DMI
Salute to you it brings me back to my childhood days 😊 thank you
press and hold power button until you hear 2 beeps to reset video settings when hooking up to av
Man not too long ago I got a mint copy of Champions: Return to Arms for a quarter at a garage sale. I had never seen the game before and thought it looked fun so I got it, then I learn that it sells for $100-$200+ on Ebay. Was a pretty sweet find
I found a complete one at goodwill for 2$!!
@@denzilcrocker7622 Man that's awesome! The one I picked up is complete as well, been thinking about selling but I've honestly grown attached to the game haha
@@nellogod7321 I already had a copy of the game so I decided to sell it😂 I started with 18$ and now from flipping games and stuff I’m at over 360$!!!
It sounds to me like you need to reset your PS3 video settings. While turning on your PS3, hold the power button down for about 5 seconds until you hear two beeps. This should reset your video settings to basic and allow you to configure the output (composite/component/HDMI) choice.
ill give that a shot!
I found a PS3 at a yard sale a few days ago for $10. Just the console and power cord but for $10 I couldn't pass on it!
heck no...thats an amazing deal!
Once a ps3 is set to Hdmi, it won't work on av until the setting is reset, I believe you have to hold the power button down until you get a few beeps, then it'll be reset and av will work
if I remember right the ps3 had to be told to switch to hdmi or av in the system menus. It auto detected on the first launch but after that you had to manually toggle it.
Hold the power button it's a thing with a PS3 slim until it beeps three times and then it'll work with the AV that works with any PS3 slim I had the same issue back in the day.
Done! Been binge watching ur content for a few weeks every video and know I’m caught up. Love your channel dude 👍👊👍
So glad you are enjoying it my friend!
@@retrorick yeah dude awesome channel, can’t get enuf that 80s 90s! Literally watching the mighty ducks right now. And Heavyweights for the first time yesterday. Ben stiller is jokes he’s the same character he plays in dodgeball it’s awesome
The A/V cable probably works, you just have to change the settings in display, with both A/V cable & HDMI plugged in, to convert it back to A/V.
You are only allowed to have one output setting at a time
I believe to use the av u either have to go to the settings or have the av connected and hold the power button for a few seconds I had the same issue
Thanks for the heads up Eduardo!
When you use an hdmi cable with ps3s, it changes the video settings which makes it so no picture comes up with AV. I bealive you hold the power button for like 5 seconds and it resets it.
thanks for the info Mark!
Very nice haul man! $20 for all of that is pretty good! Great video Retro!
Great vid Rick always looking forward to a new video 👍✌
You can charge the hmdi to A V on the ps3 if you go to the settings on ps3. As soon as you switch over it will come off the hmdi and go to A V.
Awesome video, nice haul. The PS3 is really nice. All the games are super cool
Rick with the ps3 if U hold the power button down till U hear a second beep stop holding the button down and it resets the video.so plug the Av cables in and do that and the Av should work after that
there is a setting in the ps3 that you have to switch to, get the AV to work, there is also a button combination i believe you can hold that autmatically switches to it, when HDMI is activated it disables the video option in the muilti AV out, but the audio from it will still work via a headset adapter, which is what people mostly used that port for on the ps3
looks like that was the problem!
The AV mode is working you just have to change the video output in the settings between hdmi and av out! There is a way to switch between hdmi and av by hold down some of the button on boot!
ill give that a shot...thanks my friend!
Hold down the power button a few seconds to reset the PS3 to output in av. Just for future knowledge. FYI I do use av for my ps3 lol
It should be just a setting you change on the ps3. You have to switch it to av or there's a sequence of buttons to hold to reset it.
ill give it a shot...thank you!
On the PS3 go into the video settings usually you have to switch back and forth between HDMI and AV see if that helps
the buttercream gang? haha i had that on vhs as a kid
Hi Rick, i think it's already been commented that you need to hold power button in for about 20 seconds till it bleeps to reset the console and video mode so you can use AV
Go into settings and change it to A/V then switch the tv and accept and it will be available output. Ps3 had to be manually switched from the system settings under display
ill give that a shot...thanks Cecil!
@@retrorick not a problem. Glad if I could help
Ok Rick I would love to own the Scooby-Doo plug in game 🤣 name your price!

“JackBUTT The Game” 🤣
haha i had no idea it even existed
Thank you for all the great content! Can you show us if the gba grip works and what your opinion of it is.
thank you Marc and yes ill do it!
If it hasn’t been said already, hold the power button till the system beeps and that resets the av settings so you can use the av cable instead of hdmi.
Pro tip the AV on PlayStation threes is disabled by default it’s very possible that goodwill just included that cable because they had it and it fit if you go into the settings and change the video output settings it might just work perfectly fine
God I wish the Goodwills near me still sold dvds for 2 bucks each
You have to change the video settings to av to use that type. It's just set to HDMI right now
thank you for that!
